We're going dxDDP in January, and I was all excited about the thought of the signature restaurants. But now that I've looked over the menus, the only one that appeals to us is the Yachtsman. I guess we know what we like, and we like what we know! Are we weird?! am I wasting money? I'm thinking not, that we'll eat 3 square meals a day vs eating at signature restaurants and therefore only eating twice per day. Has anyone done the math on 3 meals vs. 2 (including a signature)?

Haven't done the math but DS and I had DxDDP last trip. We had some days that we ate 3 meals and other just one and a signature. We were up early (not necessarily rope drop but close) and often didn't get back to the Hotel til after 11pm so we had a lot of hours to space those 3 meals a day!

This trip we are mostly planning either breakfast or lunch and a Signature dinner. The only two we have eaten at thus far are Jiko and California Grill and both were outstanding. I am definitley looking forward to trying the rest.

We always do deluxe, and unless it's a special occassion or we do CRT, we never do signatures. When you tally it all up you get 3 meals + 2 snacks for around 70 bucks a day. I did the math in an earlier thread and used Red Lobster as an example. To order from the LOWER end items on the menu, it would end up around 34.24 w/o tax. times this by 3 and it comes to $103.00 w/o tax. That already is a $33.00 savings. Keep in mind that this is without tax and we've didn't add in the snack credits.
now lets look at signature..
if we divide the 70 dollars into 3 (voiding snacks) is around 20 dollars per meal.. 2 credits will get you a $90 (using Narcooses menu) meal for 40 bucks.
Sounds like a win win regardless.

The rule of thumb on DxDP is that using 2/3 of your credits for TS (signature or not) gets you to break-even.

At 2009 prices (which I believe are unchanged for 2010), if you value a snack credit's break-even point at $3, each DxDP meal credit is valued at $22 for break-even. Pretty easy to come out ahead on that, even if you take some "sub-optimal" choices along the way.

That's quite a bit of food and a big chunk of time you're investing for the DX DDP. Unless you plan on doing 3 table services almost every day, you won't be saving any money. And don't forget, tips for 3 table service meals each day will add up to mucho pesos! And signature restaurants are never worth 2 credits. My advice is to sit down with the menus, decide where you want to eat, what menu items appeal to you and how much time you are willing to devote to meals. Then do a cost comparison with the different DDP levels. You will probably come out ahead with the regular DDP or just paying out of pocket.
