I'm going to WDW in late August. Usually I travel to Disney in April so I'm nervous about the heat and the crowds. Does anyone here vacation in Disney in late August?? Somebody please give me 411 on the heat, rain, and crowds! Thanks!
Haven't gone in August, but did you get Free Dining?
I would imagine the weather is similar to the beginning of September. Bring some ponchos, expect the weather to be hot and humid. Rain periods almost everyday.
We're both teachers and have 3 school aged kids, so summer is the only time we can go.
Besides, there's no more delightful place to be in summer than Disney.
We were there last August and LOVED it; we're counting the days until we can return.
One piece of advice (beyond the obvious "stay hydrated" you already know): invest in some small personal misters. We got misty mates, but there are others out there. They were a GODSEND!!! They kept us cool and comfortable.

i agree about brining the personal fan/misters.you can purchase them at the store before you come(less than 10.00).the ones at the parks cost about 20.00.this can keep you alive during those hot steamy days.
have a great disney trip
I love summer at Disney. Yes it is hot, dress cool. You are in and out of air conditioned rides so much you stay pretty cool. The rain usually only lasts a couple hours and if you stay in the parks, the crowds thin out. The rain also cools it off. The crowds aren't anything to worry about eithier. Get there early and have a plan.
If I were going at this time, I would definitely take the advice of many a DISer and hit rope drop each morning, then return to the resort for R&R and a swim and head back out in the evenings. We don't do this when we go at cooler times of the year, and when the park hours are shorter. But it seems that is the way to go that time of year.
I don't think you're crazy, to answer your thread title! LOTS of people go in the summer! Just drink and rest and swim!!
I've been in August and I didn't think it was that bad, but I don't mind heat that much.
Try to plan your day with lots of breaks in the nice air conditioned attractions... Country Bear Jamboree, Philharmagic, Innoventions... find a balance between the indoor and outdoor. The only pace I think would be a problem in AK... very few hiding places! Be prepared for short rainstorms and have a great time! Also, try to do stuff in the evening if you can. It won't as warm then.
Being from Illinois, we get heat and humidity in the summer but never like what Florida has. I went one year during the first week of September. Never again. Unless you are planning to do water parks and hang out at your resort pool, you'll be hot all day. I'm not trying to be a downer but we, our whole family, agreed that heat and WDW do not mix. We looked like drowned rats in every picture and by 11am, we were miserable from the heat. We were sweating at 7am waiting for the bus!!! Now with that said, if you are going, try to do the best you can to avoid the hottest parts of the day....go early, get out of there between noon and 5pm, bring fans, drink lots of water (buy your own and carry it in cuz you'll go broke buying it at the parks!!), dress light and know what you are getting into!!!
