Am I crazy for even considering this?

I really want to go to the Pirate/Princess party in August. Trouble is the only day that would work for us is the 21st (our arrival day).

We would be leaving around 5:00 a.m. for a 6:30 a.m. flight, so no doubt an early morning. I'm thinking we could check into resort, swim at the pool for the afternoon (this works even if we don't have our room yet), get into our room by 4:00 and everyone take a rest--hopefully NAP!! The kids are 11, 9 and 6. Then head to MK around 7:00 to whenever.

Am I nuts to think we could do this our first night? Will we be too tired? Will I wreck the next few days by making them overtired right from the get-go? I don't know what to do!!!:scared1:

Thanks for any advice!!

I would probably skip the swimming and focus on that naptime. We have a pool in our backyard and during the summer when the kids swim it just wears them out. I would definately relax, take a nap, grab a relaxing dinner before the party and have fun!

I think it is do-able IF you think you can get the kids to take a nap.
The pool/sun will like wipe them out and thats a great way to "start" a nap. But they'll be so excited it may be a bit harder!

We always have a plan for our first nite, though my child is a bit older than your oldest.
You know your kids best so really think on it and then JUST GO FOR IT!

At those ages none of my kids napped, no matter what pretty much. I would ask them, but most likely do it. If you aren planning on going to the parks anyways that day, it will be fun to do something that first night. I bet the ywill be jsut fine, and just expect to sleep in the next day nad not get an early start.

I don't think its crazy at all. I know when we go to Disney, we are so excited to be there the first few days that nobody wants to stop and nap. The worst thing that happens is that you guys sleep in a little the next day. If that were my only opportunity to do the party, I'd go for it. :)

I agree, I'd skip the pool and make sure everyone knows going in that there will be scheduled rest time. You all will be tired so nap time might be a very welcome thing for the whole family.

If that were the only day I could do it then I too would probably give it a try.

I would insist on nap/rest time for everyone and then be flexible about the party. If your all too tired by 10ish are you going to be willing to leave or will you be thinking about the $$ you spent and trying to do everything? Alternately if some of the party is needing to leave maybe you could split up.

I would also make sure and have a later start the next day so eveyone can rest up after such a busy day.

Have fun whatever you decide!

I do not think you are crazy at all - it is a plan a would consider doing. Unlike some, I would not skip the pool. That is something all my kids love and it is a great way to relax after traveling. Plus, the wear out factor would help everyone to be able to nap/rest before the party (that is how it would work for my kids, but you know your own kids best).

I also would plan a late start the following day...maybe skip the morning in the parks completely. We have tickets for the 9/3 party, and that will be my plan. My kids are similar ages at 12, 11, 6 and then we also have a 2 year old. The party just looks so fun that I would hate to miss a chance at going if it was happening when I was there!

I'm arriving on the same day as MNSSHP. We're driving so we plan on getting there around 3pm. We'll probably just hang out and maybe go to the pool for a bit. I will have 2 under 2 with me, but I think they'll be ok since they will probably be sleeping most of the ride. So no I don't think you're crazy, it'll be a great way to start out your trip.

Hi Melissa! :wave2:

How have you been???

I would say YES to the Pirate & Princess party! We went to the very first one back in January when we surprised the kids with a quick trip for dd's 8th birthday - the cool thing was that it was on her birthday so that made it extra special.

The party itself was a lot of fun and it was great seeing so many people dressed up, expecially the adults. We mainly went on the rides as some of the lines for the candy were just too long and it was raining a bit.

We have tickets for the 21st but we will be arriving on the 18th so we have a few days to get in the groove. I would highly recommend just chilling out at the resort until it's time for the party. The kids will love hanging out at the Magic Kingdom late at night! In January they had a whole different lighting going on - way cool.

We are so bad as we were there in January, just got back from April vacation, and going again in August! But we have had a lot of fun there and it works for our family. :)

Maybe we will see you there! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone, I think I'm willing to try it!! Problem is, now I have to convince DH of this. Let's see now how that goes! Thanks for the encouragement!

Hey Jill!! I'm sending you a pm!!:goodvibes
