Am I crazy for even considering 2 vacations this close together?

We are booked on a cruise over Thanksgiving week-- we got an amazing deal on Allure of the Seas out of Fort Lauderdale. We plan on doing a couple of days of Universal Studios before the cruise to see Harry Potter World. We are driving from Houston. Our kids have all of Thanksgiving week off-- we will pull them from school for about two days before and one day after to make the vacation work. Fast forward to Disney releasing the new free dining dates that stretch well into Christmas break. DH has conference money he has to use each year (or he loses it), and he could go to a conference at WDW from 12/28-12/30. If we booked free dining beginning 12/23, we would only have to pay for 4 nights of hotel out of pocket (and get to stay 8) and our tickets. Package price for a mod. is around $2,500. We could come up with the money, but am I insane to try to do two separate trips a month apart?! We already have the reputation of being "that" family that's always on vacation. DH has to use his conference money sometime in the fiscal year (Sept 2014-Aug 2015). We could try and go over spring break, if we could find a conference for then, but there won't be free dining, which will make it more expensive. I don't do summers at Disney (too gross and hot). Or we could do something else for his conference this coming year. . . Just getting a hankerin' to visit the mouse. What do y'all think?! Insane? Especially taking 2 trips around Christmas time?!

I say go for it! Seems like a very good deal for over Christmas, and you will make some magical memories! I would not worry about anyone thinking you vacation too much.

I see nothing wrong with 2 trips close together. Sometimes it works out that way. Last summer we were home from our Med cruise on a Saturday, had 1 more weekend home to repack for a quicky visit to WDW. It had to be then because our kids had a 4 day weekend for Jewish holidays, they were offering free dining then, and we had enough points with SWA that we could all fly free. We also had some water park visits remaining on our old non-expiring park tix. So why not? Yes, it was a little busy for a while but it worked out fine.

The only crazy thing I see is wanting to visit any parks over holiday times but as kids get older sometimes you have to go when you can and make the best of it. :goodvibes

I don't always tell people about our travel plans if they will have something snarky to say about it. Or maybe I would just to wind them up. ;)

We are known as "that" family too! We are always going some where. I would go for it. It's a deal and you take the deals as they come.

I also say go for it. Who cares what anyone else thinks.
We're also going on a cruise in November and if my kids had another few days off from school in the fall I too would've booked the free dining promo.

GO for it! We are that family, too.! Who cares what anyone else thinks. It is our money to do what we want with.

10 night cruise over Christmas, 5 night cruise in March and 7 night cruise over Easter.

Go and have fun. We do it all the time. Who cares if others think it is to much. Life is about choices and I choose to take lots of vacations!

Go for it! A couple of years before DD was born I spent a week in Disney with my best friend then was home for 12 hours before hopping on a flight for 10 days in Vegas with my family. Exhausting? Yes. Worth it? You bet!

:lmao:Sounds great! Our family of 5 went on a cruise last Christmas / New Years . It was the best ever ! ( 12/23 - 1/3) RCCL ! Even came home to snow ! LOL

So be *that family*. What do you care what they think?

My only misgivings would be that the trips are scheduled for Christmastime. It's such a busy season and being away over Thanksgiving and then Christmas means missing the holidays with extended family. With elderly aunts and parents, there's no way that I would skip being home for the holidays because it's very possible that it could be the last one for some of them. But if being with extended family during the holidays is not something on your priority list, then take the vacations and ignore the noise from others.

I would not because Christmas is a madhouse at Disney.

We are "that" family also. I say go for it. I think you already know what you want to do. If you can afford it I'd def do it!!!!

If taking two vacations back to back wouldn't put me in the position of having too long a wait until the *next* vacation, I would do it!
We did take 2 trips in two weeks a couple years ago. First we drove to Canada 1000+ miles each way, did laundry and repacked over a one night stay at home, then drove 200 miles to Disneyland and stayed a week there. No one in their right mind would plan one vacation with destinations so far apart from each other, so we definitely thought of it as two distinct trips.
The double trip did put us way over budget, and while it did not keep us from our next planned vacation, it should have. :rotfl: If you will have the funds to take a trip within 4-6 months of the double trip, go for it!

Is too. So good for us lol!

OP, why not if you can?

My trips this summer are July, August, September and December.
Last year we were on a cruise, came home and the following week was off to HHI. Im hoping to do the Allure or Oasis in 2016 for my dd college and my ds HS graduations.

Book and enjoy!

i did it last year. i went to vegas in october to see jimmy buffett. we got a FD code for November and my mother wanted to go see the christmas decorations, so i went on two trips about 3 weeks apart.

i had some new co-workers who were like woah you go on vacation a lot. :rotfl: before that my last real vacation was almost two years before that. i never worry what anyone thinks, as long as you can afford it go for it.

Why do you care what anyone else thinks?

ITA!

OP, vacations are for "you", not other people so why even consider what others think into your decision? We travel about 6 weeks each year and it is not unusual for us to do trips that are close together. Next winter, we will be in Palm Springs in Feb and then in Belize in March. We travel when it works for us, and it sounds as though you have logical and personal reasons for your B2B vacations. Have fun!

We're doing an upstate NY trip with family for a week and a half in July and then 14 days later, we're going on a two week land and sea cruisetour in Alaska. While I'm looking forward to them, I generally like to have more time in between because the anticipation of a trip is half the fun (to me anyways). Plus, it basically means we're boarding our 4 dogs for almost a month :(. We're also going on a 10 day cruise the week after Thanksgiving out of Galveston and I'm already putting a bug in DH's ear to "swing by" WDW for a few days on the way back ;).

If you think you would have a great time, then that's all that matters!
