Tomorrow is my dh's bday and I am having 20 people here for dinner (it was suppossed to be last Sun but a few people couldnt tear themselves away from opening day football, and yes I do have a tv). So my dh just called form work to tell me that he is going out after work to watch some stupid fight. Normally, I would not care but there is a little issue as I still have to go to the grocery store. Now tom morning he goes to play football at 8:00, so basically I have to be at shoprite when the sun is coming up. I usually dont hold my tonque very well, but I did because it is his bday. I am home all week alone with 3 kids and now I am having a house full of company with no help. I am tempting to order in for dinner tomorrow, but that will cost a forune. Thanks for letting me vent, unfortunatley after typing this I am angrier.

Completely feel your vent unfortunately. Hope it all works out. ::yes::

You poor thing. I would try to think of some items that you can order out or get in the deli.

Last night we ran out of milk and I told my husband I would go run to the store. He said I would do anything to get away from our two year old for a few minutes. I said you got that right! It was pouring down rain when I left for the store.

I don't know how you do it with 3 2 year olds. I can't take all three of mine to the store. Only in extreme emergencies.

You could hand him the grocery list when he gets home tonight. Tell him it's got to be done before his football in the morning. ;)

I've been there, it is very frustrating.

Order in. He knows what your day is like.

THREE 2-year-olds???????????????? :faint:

What about ordering in chinese? - For 20 people you could get about 7 or 8 entrees and do a buffet type of dinner.

Or what about having some pizza's delivered?

Or my absolute favorite and I've had this for 20 people - which did include a couple of kids - see if you can order a pan of lasagna from a good italian restaurant along with some garlic bread! In my neck of the woods - there is a place that does this, it costs about $50, and easily feeds 20 people. Plus there are leftovers!!!

Edited to add: We put the lasagna in for about 30 minutes - to basically heat it up and melt the cheese - let it sit out for 5-10 minutes and voila! Dinner is served.

I don't even think I could go buy stuff to make for a meal that would cost less than $50 for that many people.

Hire a caterer. Seriously, my wife told me if we have to feed 20 people, we're gonna have servers, a caterer and gonna pay extra for our housekeeper (who only comes in once a week on Tuesdays) to come in the very next day to clean up.

When my kids were little I just learned to drag them around every where...even the grocery store.....I had 3 under 3 so...It was an experience...but if you think you can't do it then you won't...I just did it all the time and never thought about it....it was really easy most of the time....they got very good at listening...

I am so proud of you!!! B-day or no B-day I would have let my DH have it. I only had twins but I remember counting down the days until the weekend when DH could help.

The only thing that I can say to help is now my boys are six and they play together all the time. I can even read books again.

Make it easy on yourself and order in. I like the lasagna and garlic bread idea. I'd throw together a salad also and call it a day. I personally would be pretty stressed out the other way - ordered in a lot myself when my twins were small. Good luck and enjoy the day. ::yes::

Zurgswife... If you can get 3 under 3 to listen, Would you like a crack at my twins? We will be at the Boardwalk at the same time! I can not get them to listen for the life of me.

Tara.. Listen I have been there! A christening for a 100 people and nursing 2 , 6 week old infants. ( Every 45 minutes. do the math it was ugly) And no help. Before it was over I thought I would drown myself in the pool!

I finnaly gave up and had it catered trays of lasagna, eggplant, ziti, fairly cheap and easy.
2 months later for older ds's first communion, sorry no can do. Had it catered same deal.

DD's high school graduation next June? I have already put in my deposit for a restaurant.

Do they offer the grocery delivery where you are. I swear Peapod by stop and Shop saved my sanity. Order after the wild things are in bed, And it gets delivered to the house and carried into the kitchen, The quality is excellant. So much easier than dragging the little ones through the store.

Save your sanity order out!

Maybe it's just me (I don't have children)...but being mom to THREE 2 y.o.'s should earn you SOME kind of excemption from preparing dinner for that many people for a coupla years at least! ;)

Pizza, "big sandwich" (ala "Wings"), lasagna from Costo, etc. All good ideas.

Denise < --- woulda done "you're invited for cake & ice cream", but I'm older and wiser now ;)

Thanks guys,
I am actually thinking about ordering some food in. The lasagna sounds like a great idea because my inlaws must have pasta on Sundays.
zurgswife i also give you alot of credit. I take my kids most places by myself, but the grocery store is not one of them. My kids MUST stay in the stoller there is no way I could let them walk . I literally would have I in aisle 2 in aisle 5 and one in the frezzer section. I dont know how I would manage my stroller and a cart.
twinmomplus 2new, looks like Ill miss you at BWV by a few weeks.

I only have one and I still cater most things for her parties! To stressful to get the house together, set things up AND have to cook and clean..no thanks! her first birthday I had out in a catering hall...her Christening was in a restaurant, all her other birthdays at home for family were catered....nice and easy!

Right now I'm embaressed by my 'Y' chromosome. Unless this is a suprise BDP for your DH, he does not deserve you!

I would cater (Italian seems the way to go)

I would have a great party.

When the party ends I would go upstairs with the TRIPLETS?!?

And say, while handing DH a broom/vacuum, "Honey, I'm gonna put the babies to bed, why don't you clean up?, Love ya, goodnight!" and do just that!

I am the same way w/ my 2. I must have them strapped in. I see others who allow their kids to walk beside them and run around a mall or grocery store, but my son would be all over the place too. He is just now learning to walk alongside me and that is when the baby is w/ grandma in the car.

Do you have a Honeybaked Ham store nearby? When I have to throw something together quickly, I pick up a ham, toss some salad, rolls, cook a few veges, and I throw in some items from the deli (such as potato salad) and I'm set. The ham is delish, and your guests can have the ham alone or sandwich style. It was a real hit, although it might not help you if you need pasta.

You did the right thing by not going off on DH. It's his birthday. Let this one go and get help from elsewhere. Maybe a family member can help. My in-laws have been there for me once in a while when my DH can't. He wasn't being very supportive, but sometimes men lose sight of how much we must do to get ready for a party w/ kids in tow. Good luck.
