Am I being too sensitive??

I just found this thread and I too was approached by a really hard sell Arbonne consultant. I'm a medical professional and one of my clients came into the office and asked me to 'try' her product. She handed me one of the large gold bags with about 8 products inside. About a week later, she called me back asking how I liked it and that the bag she gave me to 'try' was $266! There was no mention of money when she handed it over to me! (Since she said 'try' I thought it was a sample.) I basically told her that there was no way I was going to buy the bag. I even looked into buying the one I liked (the night cream) but a la carte, the night cream was $72 (for like two ounces!). I've been happy with Clinique ($22 for more than twice the amount) for quite some time. THEN the lady wanted me to become a consultant under her! (Hello? I have a full time job!)
Slightly off topic, but I was at a conference a while back and the national Arbonne meeting was at the same hotel/conference center. The consultants were very pushy... going after us (the only non-consultants around) in the elevators, hallways, resturants, etc. We even had one lady sit with us (uninvited) while we were having a strawberry daquiri at the bar and try to sell us her product! Unbelievable!

That would drive me nuts. I think you did nothing wrong and she has "issues".

Yup...she has the problem, not ou.

I also had a friend approach me about Arbonne. Telling me how great the product was, etc. Then telling me how much money you can make by selling it (with very little work involved.... HA!!), and how she will be getting her white Mercedes very soon. Well I was a little intrigued at first, but the more I looked into it and read about it, the more skeptical I became. I think it's just like every other home based selling business, they seem to start off ok, then fissel out over time. My DH was dead against me doing it so I told her I wasn't interested. She did not get mad at me though. But the way the Arbonne people talk about their products, you would think they just found a cure for cancer

Crazee4mickey, I think you were quite nice to offer to sell the product! :) I would've backed away and then I'd head for the hills!! :moped:

You are not being too sensitive! She's being manipulative and bratty. Actually, she's doing you a favor. She's showing her true colors. And it isn't pretty.

I'd stay far, far away from her. Be cordial in her presence, but don't stick around to be treated like dirt. She's a user. She'll warm up to you again when she needs something. That's the m.o. of people like that. Who needs it?

Your SIL is the unreasonable one. She is trying to bully you into recruiting people.

Oh no, I think this is the party I was invited to this Thursday. I will remember to bring the girls and I will have to leave early. (bed times as so sweet sometimes)

Laughed so hard when I read this :lmao: ...SIL told me when she first started that she would be driving a white Mercedes within a couple of months...just saw her this past weekend(first time since this happened)
My heart went out to her  ----poor girl is still driving her black Mercedes!

Your SIL is being a real idiot, sacrificing a good relationship with family because of money. A few years ago, friends of ours got into Amway (can't think of the new name for it) and we're a little miffed when we had no interest whatsoever in doing it. They used to hang out at the local grocery store looking for people to hit up. They bought into everything their uplines told them completely. Their plan was to quit their real jobs in two years and work exclusively with Amway - since they'd be making so much money. It's five years later and they're no longer doing Amway - never quit their real jobs either.

I would definitely be upset about the way your SIL treated you. You don't exist to make money for her!

Amway = Quixtar = Arbonne ....all the same thing, finely tuned scams/pyramid schemes.

.

LOL...I think you were MORE than kind to her.

If someone asks a question, they should be aware of the fact that 'no' is a possibility. She is trying to bully you. Ignore her temper tantrum and she will get over it eventually. And if she insists on pushing the issue just say, "I have no idea what the problem is, you asked, I said no. No reason to make a big deal out of it" And just walk away.

We're in Canada, she's in the US and I don't know if they are illegal or not. :confused3

Yes, of course they are illegal! Arbonne is a reputable company, and some people are using it as a shell for a pyramid scheme!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Bottom line, of course, know what you are doing with your money. Don't invest more than $1000 in Arbonne products, and only then if you are committed to doing the business of sharing products in a REPUTABLE and ETHICAL way. Your SIL is wrong, and she and everyone in her upline that are supporting these practices should be de-registered by Arbonne.

Arbonne does not support these practices, and is trying hard to stop them.

The problem is that this is the line that most are fed when they are pressured to sign up for any of these deals. People are "encouraged" to boost their percentage by signing people to work "under" them. They are also told that they "need" to have people under them so that they do not need to "sell" the line. Until this practice changes, there will be this kind of pressure from consultants. The business practice needs to change before the behavios can change.

A couple of weeks ago I went to a Body Shop at home party. My mom used to sell Longaberger - so I am familiar with the concept...

The party was one of the best I had been to. We did a foot soaker - and everyone had their own tub and we tried the different products - it was a lot of fun.

Until the "pitch" started. The representative was hard pressed to book another party that day. It was awful. She was sooooo pushy. I had just moved into our house one week prior and I honestly would have booked a party for a couple of months out, had she not been so pushy.

At work the next monday - she was the talk of the office.

The OP went further to appease her SIL than I would have. I MIGHT have purchased some product, if I liked it.

I would never have offered to sell any for her.

I have known people over the years who sell AVON, and I don't mind buying from them, because there are certain products I like, and you aren't pressured to buy a whole line.

My brothers ex-girlfriend was like this about Mary Kay. She acted like my best friend, calling coming over "just to hang out" although she always remembered to bring here MK info for me to review, played with my kids, everything, she was wonderful. I decided to give it a try and I started selling MK even though I really didn't want to but I did :confused3 Anyways after my first party I decided it wasn't for me and I called and told her. She was very angry with me and stopped calling, coming around, and at family get togethers she basically acted like I wasn't even there. Honestly the whole situation ended up hurting her and my brothers relationship (it eventually ended) because she let her true self show to me, him, and the rest of our family.
