We have neighbors across the street with two kids, girl one year older than DD and a boy one year younger. They all like to play together and for the most part get along well.

So today, we get back from a party and there is a message from the girl saying "Brother and I wondered if we could come over by DD and play" :furious: Now, I was raised and have taught DD, that you never invite yourself over to someone's house.

I know the mom is behind it because I have heard her do it. It just cheeses me off, I am not a free babysitting service. I am sorry your kids are driving you up the wall, but that is not my problem!

Reading this back, it doesn't sound so bad, I think maybe it is a build up of other things they (mom) do and after a while it adds up.

OK, vent over! :p

Heck, I'd call back or have DD call back and say the kids would love to play, you'll bring them right over. Just feign mis-understanding and then if she insists the kids play at your house apologize but you're house is not ready for visitors tonight.

I definitely think when kids (neighbors) play together they should alternate whose house they play at---only fair! And I also think it's rude to invite yourself places.

I have one of those next door. With a wild child. After about the 5th time she invited herself over, I (loudly and in front of child and parents) told DD it was impolite to keep "inviting" this girl over until she had been invited to play over at their house. I think two girls must be too much for the parents. DD never was invited to play over there, and the girl has never been over since. I don't particularly like this child, so it doesn't bother me they never play. If your DD actually likes playing with these kids and you don't want to totally alienate them, just say "I'm sorry now is not a good time to play at our house today." You might suggest DD play over there. You'll find out soon enough if they really want to be friends of if they're just using you and your DD.
