Am I Being TOO Ambitious?

Hi All!

I just booked our trip for January and I booked a 3 resort split at the monorail resorts (GFV, BLT, and Poly). Equal lengths for BLT and GFV and 2 nights at Poly. My question is: am I being too ambitious with these 3 reservations and do you see any foreseeable complications? I have time to change but with availability my last minute options will be limited of course.

I am open to all opinions and what you would or wouldn't do as I like to hear for different viewpoints. Thanks all! :)

I do these sort of reservations all the time now, usually three different resort in different areas.

We love split stays. We’ve done a 3 way split before with resorts further apart and really didn’t feel like it was difficult or that we lost a lot of time. I wouldn’t want to do it with multiple small children- we have tween and teen so not an issue for us

Split stays are great! My only question is, do you plan to spend the majority of your time at MK? A lot of times we’ll start at a MK resort and end at our home resort, BCV. Starting with BLT for those dates is a good idea if you plan to do MK on the 9th and 10th in case Marathon Weekend actually happens this January. Walking is a great option as traffic will be crazy Sunday morning during the full marathon.

If you like different viewpoints: I would not do a split stay. I think it would be a pain in the neck to pack and unpack and I don’t like the idea of creating additional days where I would be homeless. DVC rooms are not always available at 4:00. I need an afternoon break from the parks and I want to be able to rest in my room. If your group is all adults or older kids who can stay in the park all day, maybe that wouldn’t matter to you. If you don’t have groceries, maybe it would be easier. If you don’t bring your own toiletries, maybe it would be easier for you. I hate packing up my wet soap.

I’d like to try a split stay one day but it’s the groceries and toiletries I wouldn’t want to pack up mid trip. Seems complicated

I had asked something similar. I decided I prefer having a single location for the week for the most part and at most a single move.

Now if you are doing it as recon for a future trip or an add on then it might be worth it for you.

It depends on how you are planning the vacation. Do you want to check out the resorts to see which you like better? Do you enjoy moving to access the amenities? Do you want to relax and don't have park plans?

For our last vacation, I said I don't want to move for the whole week; I want to settle in and enjoy the place. We don't do more than one park during the week, so access to the MK was not a factor for us. For me, since we stay in a one bd and use the kitchen a lot, packing up the food and toiletries would be a pain. Since you are in a studio, you won't have the food issue.

If you haven't stayed in those resorts, go for it. Next year you may choose only one resort for the whole stay. If you have a car, that makes it easier. You will get to stay at the first resort and use the pool til the second resort's room is ready, or you can move right over to the next resort and use the amenities even before your room is ready if you choose.

You'll have years and years to try all the other resorts. Stick with one and make it easy on yourself. When we lived in Louisiana, we took two trips per year, about seven to ten nights per trip and booked one resort. Now we live 3 hours away and still stick with just one resort and we take shorter trips. It is so much easier to unpack and settle in for the entire stay than to pack and move every few days. You'll need to actually check out of each resort before you check into a new one since DVC software isn't that good.

I avoid this situation whenever possible, I only book split stays, even within a given resort, when I have no other choice or for longer stays, like 2 weeks total which we rarely do. It's up to you though, basically personal choice. IMO the one time when it can make sense is for one looking at buying to spend a couple of days JUST at the resorts as part of their investigation on purchase options.

A few years ago, DH and I took a trip by ourselves and stayed in 3 different resorts (3 nights each - ASM, BLT, AKL) in January. We only had 3 park days, as it was originally a 6 night trip but, because of getting out of town ahead of a blizzard, we added 3 nights in the front of our trip at ASM at the last minute. It was a wonderful, relaxing vacation. It did rain several of the days and it was also pretty chilly, especially at night. We went to DS a couple of days and explored the hotels on the monorail. If it's a trip for 1 or 2 people, I would think it would be okay. I would not want to do that with children.
