Am I being an idiot for paying rack rates?

DH and I made an impromptu decision to take a "research" trip to WDW in September... Of course, this was after the free dining plan, DING rates were higher, I missed all September codes, etc.

We are trying to save $$ by staying at Pop (which is part of our "research"), but after crunching some numbers, I realized that it'd be cheaper for us to be on the DDP than to pay for our meals. (I like fine dining - sorry!)

Is there ANY way for me to get the DDP and ME and still get some kind of discounts???

ME - magical express is included with all WDW resorts - it is a WDW resort priviledge not a package deal.

You can also get a discount if you belong to AAA. you can call CRO (disney) and tell them you are a member of AAA. you don't have to call AAA. (their packages are harder to cancel or change than just going through CRO)

You can't get a discounted AAA package through Disney ONLY through a AAA travel agent. Disney can only give you AAA discount on room only.

I would look into AAA. We have the dining plan and a room discount, but you can only book through AAA. Make sure that if you book through the local AAA office, they don't charge a fee (some do). I booked online and wasn't charged a fee.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize that there actually WERE codes still available, that's why I posted here... I was venting more than anything else.

HOWEVER, I called and asked if there were any codes available for my time of stay, and they gave me one! (It's not the same as the one in the post you linked to, so I'm not sure if I can post it.) It saved me only about $100, but I'm happy with that!
