We put the tree up last light. Just the lights and we are/were? going to decorate today. Kids are going nuts over waiting for DH to get back from work. I decided to water the tree. I was very surprised at the amount of water it was taking.

Okay I am just an idiot. I was taking so much water because on the other side of the stand there ia a hole for you to put water in. All the water I was putting in was going out the hole. THe carpet in soaked! 2 bath towels and it not even slightly dry. I can't move the tree myself and of course there is still too much water in the tree stand. hey by the way, the is the first year I forgot to lay down a plastic sheet under the tree stand in case water spills. WHen DH gets home we are going to have to move the tree to attend to the wet carpet -- I can't put the tree back on the wet spot so I will either have to find a new spot for the tree or tell the kids we can't decorate today.:sad2:

We just have the worst luck with trees. One year our tree was so dead within 3 days we had to undecorate, throw it out and get a new one. We no longer buy the $24 trees. Another year before we had kids, I was in a rush and ran out the house without locking the door. DH was asleep. The door blew open. It was a really cold night. The heat turned on and the wind from the open door blew it at the tree -- one side of the 9ft tree turned brown and my gas bill was astronomical that month.

I think these are all signs that I should stop with the live trees and go artificial.

You can cry.
You can be upset, but you can NOT stay mad at yourself!

We have no tree this year because there is no place to put one. Every single inch of wall space it taken up with stuff. Rooms aren't big enough to put one in the middle. Thankfully my children are okay with it. They like running around the house and a tree would nix that. I am putting up a small table top tree. Maybe you can do that if you don't get the carpet dry?

Did you think about renting one of the cleaning machines? Would it suck up the water?

OMG! I completely forgot that we have one! Yippee!! I just can't move the tree myself so I can get under and around and the reservoir is so full. I will have to wait for DH to get home (and he is already late, hasn't called to say he is on his way and is over an hour away). I suppose this is for the good. I was so mad at myself that I have been ruthlessly cleaning the bedrooms -- which is so very unlike me, so at least something got done.

I actually do not have a table top I could put a tree on. I have slowly been throwing out my very old livingroom furniture, and just not replacing it. That is my plan until the kids are big enough to stop jumping, climbing, flopping, putting sticky hands, germy hands, dirty feet and every other gross thing that kids do on or to the furniture.

It sounds like your kids are so easy going and low maintenance. I could use less drama.

:sad2: They have their own drama.
Now if I told them there was no room to set up their clone troopers or that they couldn't run around with with their Nerf guns - then there would be some serious drama.

Those cleaners have quite powerful suction - could you sort of go round the edges to make a start?

Do you have a fan heater for after to dry the carpet? Or a powerful hairdryer? (Being careful not to get water IN it, of course!)

These things happen - generally when we have a really good idea for saving time/effort/asking DH:rolleyes1 Like getting your shoes out of the suitcase without unpacking - you know it really wouldn't take longer, and that things are going to get mussed, but somehow it always seems a good idea to pull at the strap from under your smalls....;)

So sorry to hear about it. Hopefully DH will be home soon to help. I think explaining to the kids they have to wait a day to decorate might be the best thing if you machine can't get the water up fast enough.

Yes, you can cry.

I had a tree fall over Christmas night (before DH and before child), broke all my crystal ornaments. I cried as I took it down. Now I look lovingly at the handmade ornaments my DD has made over the years as we put up the tree. This year it only tipped over once until I roped that sucker so it isn't going anywhere.

I am so sorry. My moms tree fell over last year breaking all her ornaments and fell over again this year (thankfully it was not yet decorated). She called me crying that she was just going to throw it away. I ended up getting her a new base and decorating it for her. Turns out it was the base!!! SO yes you can cry, let it out. :grouphug:

You can so cry Susan! Hugs for you. You'll get it all cleaned up and it will be the story for next year. Remember when i watered the tree with the hole in the stand.... And you'll be laughing about it!!! My trees where always falling over when we were 1st married. We have always had a real one. And I finally convinced dh to let us try a fake one. So this is our 1st year with it. We went and picked it out a couple of weekends ago at Kmart. I did not think I was going to like it, but as it turns out I love it. I wanted to do it for ds asthma. Maybe we can get through christmas w/out an episode. *fingers crossed*. So cry and let it out. I know sometimes I need a cry every now and then. But i love the laughter through tears also!

THanks all! DH sucked it up and blew it dry with the hairdryer for about half an hour. He really is a good guy. It is decorated and looks lovely. Kids will be in bed in about an hour and then I can relax. I think I deserve a chocolate martini today.

I'm glad it worked out!! And you definitely deserve a chocolate martini!!

I'm coming too! All of DD's fish just hitched a ride on the Porcelain Express. She's taking it better than her parents!:sad2:

Susan, I'm glad the tree adventure worked out and that you were able to get it up and decorated. Hopefully today will be a better day.
