My Dh is so mad at himself. He bought me (us) a new oven and he decided to put one of those oven liners in the bottom of the oven to try and keep it looking good and ease up on the spills. This oven has an enclosed lower element.
A very large area (about the size of a large hand) melted to the bottom of the oven and we do not have any idea on how to get it out. We tried scraping with a metal spatula vut it will not budge.

Any ideas on how to get the aluminum off? He is just sick about it and I am so glad I was not the one that did it. We just had it delivered on Christmas Eve so it is very new.

If we set the oven on the cleaning cycle do you think this would help? I suggested that he call the Fridgidaire help line but thought I would try here first.

We have used those liners for years with all our previous ovens and never had a problem.

I would contact the manufacturer. Or heat the oven up really hot again to soften the melted aluminum then try to scrape it off. I had melted plastic in mine once. Someone put a skillet in the oven and left a spatula in the skillet. I turned the oven on to preheat and did not look inside first (who has to look inside the oven first). Well I heated the oven back up later and was able to scrape the plastic off with no problems.

I agree with taking the racks out and heating it up again, then trying to scrap it off while it's hot. Just be careful. My parents got a new oven on Tuesday and I feel your pain ... my mom was so careful with it for Christmas and my dad was just so proud of it!! :-)

This exact same thing happened to my SIL. They couldn't do anything to fix it. She was so terribly upset since she was just trying to protect the oven in the first place.

When you put the oven on clean, it will lock the door, so you won't be able to open it. :confused3

I googled and it seems many many others have had this happen. I tried a brillo pad but that did not work.

I read where some people said the only thing we could do is to buy a new bottom piece to the oven.

We might just have to live with it for now. I might get a price n the relacement part though.

I'm sorry this happened to your new appliance. I've been burned (pun intended) before trying to protect something and ended up screwing it up. Tell your DH it happens to the best of us.:)

long shot here, but if you put some ice on it and cool it WAYYYYY down, it MIGHT *pop* off. (I'd put the ice in a THIN plastic <think disposible> bowl that is flat on bottom so it has as much contact with it as possible) Think about when you put a cheap cookie sheet in the oven sometimes and the metal twists and pops a little. Because one metal is a different make-up from the other, it might contract JUST enough to break whatever bond is there from melting.

It won't hurt anything, so what have you got to lose. ;)
