Well one of my professors gave us an assignment for next week--
We are allowed to use a 1foot by 1 foot piece of aluminum foil, we can make ANY shape or container type of thing out of this foil..It needs to be able to float and hold "many" coins before it sinks...

i am horrible at these things of things--any ideas on what to try?

I did this project w/ my students a few years ago but used clay...same principle though. Think "area". The more surface area you have the better. Fold the edges in several times to make them more sturdy. You may try folding the foil in half first to make it stronger. Hope this helps.

My girls did this in Pre-K last year! :teeth: What a great project to teach many things.

I saw a Magic School Bus about how things float (who says children's television isn't educational! ;) )

hwmnick is right - it's the area of the object that keeps it on the surface of the water.

Good luck!

This sounds crazy, but if your school has an architecture program, find an architecture major. The ones at my undergrad ALWAYS had projects like this and their help was invaluable on some projects I had.
