Alternative to Zyrtec???

I agree with OP we have both been on Singulair with the Claritin and the combination works. Singulair works on the seasonal rhinitis great..

I might have to ask DS's asthma dr about Singulair. It would be nice taking one pill vs the Advair and the Allegra because he is a 14 year old boy and it would be one less thing for me to remind him to take/do!

Ask if your insurance company makes a distinction between Zyrtec liquid and the pills. My copay for the pills is $50 but my copay for the liquid is $20. Also, take heart, the patent on Zyrtec expires at the end of 2007. Then they'll be able to go OTC or generic.

That is music to my ears, I've been waiting for the patent to expire, but didn't know how to find that out, thanks for telling us

The only alternative if all other meds fail, is immunotherapy, which I'm headed for since my copay for Zyrtec is so high.

Zyrtec is the only one that works for me and I have severe allergies year round, which Zyrtec is supposed to be for. I'm allergic to dust, cats, mold, pollen, smoke, etc...my copay is $50. a month too which kills me to have to pay, but without it I am miserable. Allegra did nothing for me and Claritin worked for a while but soon became like Allegra for me anyway.

I also recommend a nasal spray. I use Rhinocort Aqua and it really, really gives me relief from a continuous itchy and running nose and sneezing violently.

Allegra never did anything for me, but Allegra D works fabulous! I had the same result with Claritin - the reg. was useless, but the D version was great.

I have been on allergy shots for years. I think I am about to go off them since they reach the height of their effectiveness in 3-5 years. Lori, I'm not sure where you are, but if you are in Manchester or Nashua, I can tell you the office to avoid like the plague. This office gave me the wrong shots for 3+ years previous to my current office!

I also swear by my Nasacort AQ nasal spray and my Advair inhaler.
