My husband and I are taking two nieces 4,8 and nephew 7 for their first trip to WDE. I'd like to take the girls to the princess breakfast on our last morning there. Is Chef Mickey the best alternative for my husband to take our nephew? Any other suggestions for a young boy?

We like Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom, but generally go as a family because we all like it. It has Pooh, Tigger, Eyeore and Piglet, so I am not sure if your nephew would be too old for them.

Usually when I plan something "princessy" for my daughter, my husband takes my son (age 8) to Epcot and they play with the science stuff there and go on Soarin' and Test Track. Epcot has a lot of hands on science stuff your nephew might enjoy. The Garden Grill is at Epcot and has Mickey, Chip and Dale and Pluto if you are looking specifically for a character meal.

He has also taken him to Disney Quest at Downtown Disney. It is a huge building filled with video games and stuff. I think your husband would enjoy that as well.

Good luck with your planning!

You could do the Princess breakfast at Norway at Epcot and then it would be convenient for your husband and nephew could do Garden Grille with Chip and Dale and friends. Otherwise if you are set at Cinderella Castle for that Princess breakfast, then yes Chef Mickey would probably be a good relatively close alternative for the boys and I've heard of others doing the boy/girl split out that way.

Have fun whatever you pick!

My DS who is now 10 has eaten at several different character meals. He has done the castle breakfast twice and the epcot princess in epcot. We let our kids pick one restaurant a trip. Our last trip was in Aug 2006, he was 9, DD was 2.5 We ate at the playhouse disney character meal for her. He was too shy to get up and dance around with the other kids and characters. We told him we would buy him a Mickey bar that afternoon if he would go dance around. He did and she followed him and they had a great time. He enjoyed himself. The restaurant he chose was not a character meal, but is fun for kids, which is dinner at Ohana. There are activities there like a coconut race and hula hoops and he really likes it. Another place he really enjoys is Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL. There is a whole lot of fun and games going on there. The wait staff are characters and tell jokes and do funny things. Another thing he did that isn't a meal, but is fun is the pirate cruise at GF. He was 7 when he did it. It lasted about an hour and a half I believe. They took a boat around seven seas lagoon and stopped at various sites. They give them a little lunch, I think it was PB&J but I don't remember what else they ate. He brought home a pirate mickey ears and a treasure box with coins and stuff in it. He LOVED it.

Chef Mickey is our entire family's favorite :goodvibes . So I think it is a great choice :thumbsup2 . I can also tell you that my DS, who is almost 11, has never minded going to the princess princess: things because he knows his sister likes them. He figures he gets to do enough with Mickey :mickeyjum , and the other things he likes to do, that he can deal with them for one meal :confused3 . He knows the trip is not just for him and that everyone should get to do some of the things they want to, even if it's not necessarily what everyone else wants to do. If it was me I would plan to all go together, and plan a different meal at someplace like Chef Mickey's that is geared to be something you nephew would like.

I guess for me personally WDW is a family vacation, and so we do everything as a family :grouphug: . That means making compromises so that everyone has a great time :dance3: .

My DS loves the Cape May Breakfast with Goofy, Chip & Dale & Minnie out front.

For Dnephew I would suggest the poly breakfast with Stitch. It was the funnest one we had all week, Stitch was very entertianing!

Thanks for the great suggetions! We are all going to a character meal for dinner the night we first get there, so maybe just sending him and my husband to a park or the store in Downtown Disney will work.
