We will be at the World on New Years EVe and are not planning on going to the parks. We have a few plans and hope they work out. But I would like to get some suggestions for what to do in case someone has some BETTER ideas or if our plans do not work - we need alternates!

We are planning on sending my husband and oldest to play golf in the morning with people from 2 other families who will be there at the same time. We also plan on sending our littlest ones on the Pirate Cruise that morning.

What should the moms and older girls (2) do while the guys are golfing and the little ones are pirating?

Any suggestions for how to eat that day? Where to eat? It would be great to see fireworks at midnight. Where would be the best place to do this and how early would we have to be there?? Would it be impossible to get into the CaliGrill at the CR? CAn you see the fireworks from Ohana's?

PleasePlease - any suggestions for how to make the day fun would appreciated. We just do not want to fight the NYE crowds, but want to have fun doing Disney things!

Thanks!
Jill

Have you been to WDW on NYE before? I don't think that you will be able to avoid the crowds. No matter where you go, it'll be a zoo :(.

It will not be impossible to get reservations at the California Grill, but it will be expensive. As in $100s of dollars per person. I suspect that the viewing areas will also be reserved for private parties. 'Ohana will be a better bet, but it may not be serving dinner at midnight. You'll have to check with them. You may be able to see the fireworks on the grounds of one of the monorail resorts like the Poly, but I'm not 100% sure of that. You may also be able to see some of the Epcot or Studios fireworks from the Boardwalk area. I suspect that any off-park restaurant will be OK, but make sure to make Priority Seating reservations as soon as you can. Things book up quickly on NYE.

I'm sorry if I'm not much help. I was in Epcot on NYE 99/00 and I'll be there again in 01/02. Then again, I happen to love crowds :).

Oh - I am sure it will be a zoo! HA! We are just wanting to stay out of the middle of the zoo. We were just looking for some things to do while there and not at the parks. We will then be at the parks for a week after NYE. Hopefully, not quite a zoo then!

Guess I should just call the dining people and see what they could suggest. We are staying at the Dolphin for NYE and then moving to either the Contemp or the Poly. My plan was to watch the Epcot fireworks from the boardwalk since that is very near our hotel. But we will need some other fun for the kids......maybe we will do the puttputt thing - have a nice character lunch or early dinner and then hang out on the boardwalk! Gotta make some plans!

Thanks for ANY help at all!

Oh yes, things really clear out after NYE. Dumbo was a walk-on the morning of January 2nd.

Since you'll be at the Dolphin, it might be fun to wade into Epcot and do the Garden Grill. Maybe the Dolphin will have something special. I think that driving will be a pain, so I would recommend sticking around your resort and the Boardwalk area if you can. If you can't, then give yourself a lot of time to get around. Getting into the monorail resort area will be very hard by car, especially if they close the MK parking lot. The bus system will also be very slow. Maybe a walk through Epcot to the monorail? I recalled that Epcot was not too zoo-y until after 3:00 pm.
