As a spin off of a thread currently on the Controversial Threads board...

For those who got a post secondary degree... if you didn't get that degree, what do you now wish you would have gotten a degree in/studied?

I got my degree is Mass Communications (Broadcasting).

I would have also been interested in Aviation and possibly even looked into the Electrical Trade (based on what I'm interested in now).

I went into College as a declared Pre-Law major and switched to Communication Arts. I guess Pre-Law would be my choice with my career path either being Law Enforcement or as an Attorney.

Honestly, I got mine and was already in the workforce. It matches my career - Business Administration with a Healthcare Concentration. Almost done with my MBA if I decide to finish. It has served me well.

If I had to choose, probably Computer Science. That was my original plan in high school.

I used both my secondary degrees but for different purposes. One was to increase my earnings and the other, my knowledge and love of the arts.

My degree is in chemical engineering, I liked math and science, chose it because it would pay enough to pay off my student loans. Also had a co-op option to work and make money during my college years. I got very good grades but knew by the time I graduated that I didn't like the engineering jobs I was seeing. I went more towards the chemistry side for work, but really I would have been better off just going for a math degree instead. Two of my older sisters had been math majors. With my anxiety issues actuary would have been a better career choice.

I'm not sure I would want another degree but, having traveled a lot Internationally in the last 12-15 years, I wish I was better versed in world history. I think we tend to be so "America centric" that we think everyone should be like us. As I learn tidbits of other countries' histories, I realize how much I don't know. Maybe I can find some classes at a community college and just audit them.

My degrees (BS and MS) are both in food science. For the majority of my career, I've been a bench scientist, save for 10 years teaching math thru special ed at a K-8 public school, and the past 6 years managing the organic chem labs at UMaine (but that's pretty sciencey, and includes teaching). However, if I had it to do all over again, knowing then what I know now, I'd have gone into either some form of health care administration/policy or some sort of theatre arts/production career. Pretty disparate, right?

Just to clarify, it's not so much about going to get another degree now, it's what you would have/wanted to do different back "then".

I dreamed of becoming a pilot but many factors made that a bit impossible. I'd never pass the physical required so I never pursued it.
