Hi! I look forward to learning from you all because I honestly don't even know where to begin!

HI and welcome!

Let's start with the basics:

Are you planning a trip to Disney World?

If so, have you done anything yet?

Who would be going, and when?

Hi! Where on LI are you? We live in Hauppauge.

So yeah, we're planning a trip to Disney World right after school ends next year. So from June 24-July 1 (I think!) As I right now we just have the dates picked and the Unofficial Guide. We're thinking of renting DVC points and staying at a villa since it gives us a little more space, I like having a washer/dryer in the room with us and it seems like it might be a (more) affordable option. It will be five of us. My husband and I and three children (who will be 6, 4 and 1 when we go.) Also traveling with in-laws, but it seems like everyone will be doing their own thing because we all want to stay at different resorts and they have older children. We're leaning towards Bay Lake because of the proximity to Magic Kingdom and convenience with the monorail. And I guess that's where we are right now.

And yet another Islander checking in.

OP, you are in better position than others. I think with your wants (more space with 5 people, washer and dryer, etc.) renting DVC is going to be your best option. BLT or even WLV are good if you plan on spending a lot of your time in MK. The EC area resorts (Boardwalk Inn, Yacht/Beach Club) might be more suitable if your whole group wanted to stay in the same area due to its proximity to both EPCOT and DHS. I would exclude the other villa resorts since they would each leave you a bit farther from the action (but they would be nice for more relaxing, return trips).

I think all parties involved aught to sit down and start figuring some of these things out. Should you all be in the same resort? Will you be having some or all dinners together? Are you going to need park hoppers if you plan on having dinner together in a park but don't want to be tied down to that park for the day? (I know in my family, dinners on family vacations are basically a must as a family.)

I think once your party as a whole hashes out a few of the major issues and points, it will help take care of some of that overwhelmed feeling.

Also, just as a side note, my girlfriend and I LOVE flying Southwest out of Islip to MCO. We also live in Hauppauge (small world, isn't it?). :thumbsup2

I'm from Hicksville.

You're a far better mom than I am... no laundry or cooking for me while I'm on vacation!

And I agree-- with kids as young as yours, either Bay Lake or the Wilderness Villas will put you nice and close to the Magic Kingdom. What sold us on the Beach Club was the proximity to Epcot combined with Stormalong Bay-- my kids are drooling already over that pool area!
