Already-Purchased Flights: Airline Excise Tax Refund

I have SW and my flight prices are the same now as they were before the tax change. Hmmm, If I cancel my flight and rebook at the same price will I get a credit?

Answered my own question, yes I did. ~$14 each.

Maybe it's just me, but for crying out loud, if you can afford to fly, you can afford to pay the taxes. Isn't the Federal government in this whole mess because they are so far in debt? Why make it worse for your few dollars in taxes by requesting it back? I don't get it really!

So I assume if you have a tax refund coming this year, you'll tell the government to keep it? Surely you spend money on some things that aren't absolute necessities. Why make it worse by requesting some back?

Well said! :thumbsup2

Maybe so, but ticket prices already go up and down that they may not notice. It just rubs me the wrong way to pocket the difference, but hey they're a business trying to make money. And I'm just a consumer always looking for ways to save.

An airline making a simple profit at no *pain* to the customer (if the total is the same) helps out all the employees working at the airline. If it helps out the bottom line, it helps them stay in business, which is good for the jobs inside the company.

Yeah, okay, whatever....lets waste all of our time requesting a few dollars back from our flights because the big bad federal government is all messed up. You are absolutely right, I should take the time to do this. Then when income taxes are raised higher to make up for the few dollars we had to request back we can all complain some more as we pay it back.

If I have a tax refund coming back it is because I chose the level of withholdings that put me in that situation and the money is mine to begin with. Paying a few dollars in taxes for flights is completely different.

And darn those airlines for taking that money we could have saved from the big bad government and putting it in their pockets. Wow, things are just going downhill as we plan our vacations.
