and I have paid deposit plus made another $200 payment last month on it. All paid with Disney Visa. So I am wondering when I call MOnday am I just going to make a whole new reservation first, THEN cancel my existing? Also I am checking in a day prior to start day 8/25 (cannot change as I have flight booked) so would I then just cancel the other 6 days off of that reservation? I recd 40% off promo, but free dining is a little bit more, but still will be nice if I can keep the 40% off rate for that 1st day of arrival. Does that make sense?

You should call the same folks you made your original reservation with, and try to get them to "switch" you to the free dining promotion. Given that you are checking in too early for the promotion, you would have to split the reservation (i.e., make a new reservation to accommodate either the beginning or ending of your trip), and that will complicate things. You will surely have to give up the 40% discount to get free dining.

Hmm ok I made the original reservation through Disney. Since I will not qualify for free dining on my first night 8/25 maybe they will let me keep my 40% off room for that night only?

You will have to book a new vacation to get the free dining. Your vacation will have to start the day that the Free Dining starts. Unfortunately, you will likely lose the discount even on your first night because I think those discounts come with a minimum night stay? There's a good chance you might not even get the same resort depending on where you're currently booked.

That's a good question and there probably was although I had booked 7 nights so the CM never questioned me about it. Anyway, when I work out the numbers, there is a difference of about $50 between either using 40% off and paying for DDP, or Free Dining and paying rack rate. The extra $50 saved is if I go with Free Dining and give up the 40% room discount. I think if I can still get my same resort, I will drop the room disc, but if I cannot get POP, I might think otherwise as it isn't that big of a savings.

Thanks for your help! I called CRO and made a new ressie for 8/25 ( 1 night only rack rate) and paid for that with Visa so that is out of the way. I am keeping my current reservation for 7 nights with MYW 8/25-9/01 until I call on MOnday to see if I can get the Free Dining at POP. I didn't want to loose the 40% off rate that I rec'd until I know that I can get ressie with free dining at POP. I also asked if I could upgrade DS to "adult" ticket prices so that I can get him adult DDP as well and she told me yes.
