Rapa Nui, Tahiti and Tokelau do have balconies on the second floor. Since the latter two are such large longhouses, that makes it close to 40% of 2nd floor rooms with balconies.

Tonga, the all suite building, does not have balconies on the second floor to the best of my memory...not that I've ever stayed in that building.:rotfl: I'll try to check that out today or tomorrow but I'm pretty certain.

Ok, Poly experts...I have a ressie for a GV room. What kind of room requests (ie: certain building, room #) should I make?

That depends ... what's important to you? Close to the GCH/volcano pool, close to transportation, quieter location, a water view? etc.

I'll go with close to the GCH/volcano pool or a water view.

If you request Figi, marina side, you will be looking out at the marina and the back side of the volcano. If you are on the second or third floor, you may also get a bit of a view of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the CR. You will also be right by the GCH & volcano pool.

Samoa, Niue and Rarotanga are also right by the GCH. Samoa has some nice views of the volcano pool with glimpses of the lagoon on the one side and faces out over the quiet pool on the other side.

I'm sure there are others who can also chime in with some advice!

I know you were just responding to the question -- but if you have a GV, you won't get a water (lagoon) view. (Unless there's a few oddball rooms that are classified GV but look at the water, but I think that would be rare).

You are right, no GV rooms have a dead on view of the lagoon. That's why I said water view, not lagoon view. There are quite a few rooms at Poly that have views of the water (some people like to be looking out at some water, but not necessarily the lagoon specifically).
For example, the rooms on the marina side of Figi face directly onto the marina - I would consider that a water view.
You can check out some of those views here:

As I mentioned, if you're on the second or third floor you may also get a view of the lagoon (see the last picture in the link).

Here is a view from the volcano pool side of Samoa. While it is not an unobstructed, dead on view, you still have the lagoon in the background.

Another example from Aotearoa:

People have also reported that several of the "beach end" rooms in Tokelau have views of the lagoon.

Just got off the phone with WDW. I requested Samoa, 3rd floor, volcano view. Can't wait to see if I get it.

Thanks for your help :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone! :goodvibes I'm booked to stay at the Poly, TPV for 2 nights at the end of April 2010 with my mom. The other 6 nights will be spent at Pop. This is a surprise for my mom who has always wanted to stay at the Poly. She has NO IDEA that we're going to be staying here, and I plan to keep it that way until we are checking out of Pop. I just have to figure out how to keep this a secret

This thread has been very helpful with all the information. Love all the pictures! My only question is, which building would be best for TPV? Should I even bother to make a room request? We're bound to have a good view, right?

Any suggestions?

Paid off the surprise trip yesterday.

Never thought I'd ever stay at the Poly, nevermind CL. But ahhh 4+3=too tempting!

We have been on a WDW "diet" (going other places) for the past 3 years so I guess its time we came back. (though St. John will always be my favorite place on earth-sorry Mickey & Minnie :guilty:)

We plan on surprising the girls (10,7 & 3) on Christmas morning. DH wants to do a "treasure hunt" sort of thing (looking for ideas).

We are far from newbies as this is my 10yr olds' 5th or 6th time, or more (I forget?). But what has changed in the past 3yrs (TSM was not there in Feb 07 last time we went-anything else?)

We will be driving down from MA in exactly 45 days!

Aloha!
Heather

Just paid off our GV Poly room for March yesterday. We are going to start our vacation with some Washington Nationals Spring Training at Space Coast Stadium near Cocoa Beach and then spend the week after at the Poly! We couldn't be more excited.

This is our first foray into the deluxes since I was a kid.

LAPU LAPUS HERE WE COME!

Spring training in Viera is great -- the players are so close -- nothing like seeing them at the big stadium when they are so removed from the fans (we used to live nearby). That's a great way to start the trip for a baseball fan. (If you need a place to eat -- not too far from there -- Dixie Crossroads in Titusville is my recommendation). But there's always an outdoor mall right next to the stadium with some dining choices - I moved away a few years ago so I bet there's a lot more there than when I was there because it was brand new then.

Ah! All the room view things can be so confusing. I was equating water with lagoon at the Poly, but I guess there's more shades to that than just lagoon!

Here's what I can think of:
Toy Story Mania
Sum of All Thrills just opened at Innoventions (Epcot)
T Rowe Price banking game at Innoventions
probably other stuff in Innoventions as well
Spaceship Earth re-do
Hall of Presidents re-do
Space Mountain re-do

There's probably other things as well (and don't mind my highly technical term of "re-do" - I just meant more than a refurb that you wouldn't notice).

Ok....you know I couldn't stay away...soooo...we just booked for November 2010!!

We just got back (Nov 13-21) and we had a great time. It was my boyfriend's first time at Disney and he got the Disney Magic and was amazed by the entire place and wants to go back.

We stayed in Tokelau (#1935) and the room was good. Although they need to replace the mirror behind the door in the bathroom but other than that the room was spacious and in a great location.

No matter where you stay on property, it's an easy walk to the TTC or the CGH. The grounds are beautiful and the castmembers very nice.

ALOHA and enjoy the drive we are from Rhode Island and have stay at the Poly 4 times and at Disney 7 times and driven every time. We are booke for Dec. 2010 for 9 days at the Poly.

Thanks to the great advice here and on Tikiman's site I had my TA to add a request to my ressie yesterday. Maiapapaya, the views you posted from Fiji (3rd floor, overlooking marina) sold me. I think DW and I would LOVE that for our GV room. As a secondary request I had TA ask for Samoa bldg, 3rd floor facing volcano pool.
Yanno, the nice thing is even if I don't get either request I know we're just going to love the Poly.

I actually can't take credit for those pics - BreezysMom posted them - I just posted the link to show that there were some nice GV "water" views from that building. We were in Tuvalu when we were at Poly in Oct. We had to walk past Fiji to get anywhere and thought if we were staying GV it would be a great location :thumbsup2 (view of the water, proximity to GCH & volcano pool). Good luck with your room requests!
