ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

I just did online check-in for our first Poly stay. We are CL, but I like to be "checked in" just makes the trip feel REAL. My DH has always wanted to stay at the Poly, he loves the theming of the grounds.....so in 10 days we will be there

Hi pas130:wave2: You are a funny lady. No grass grows under your feet now does it. Wow, 10 days away already. I am sure you and your DH will have a fantastic time.:flower3:

Hey girl, I know right.....I can't wait. Time has flown by! Nice to see you!

Well, we are there from 7/15/11-7/25/11 (actually checking into Poly the 17th...doing 2 nights at AKL first). Our 10th anniversary is in June, but we couldn't go then because oldest DD would still be in school. So, July it is! I will however, be celebrating my birthday there (the 18th!). So excited!!! :yay:

It looks like our trips will overlap. I am close to booking, but I am contemplating a GF/Poly split depending on the number of nights we stay. So as soon as that is decided, I will book. How exciting to be spending your birthday at the Poly ;).

It truly will be a whole new Disney experience for us :woohoo: Your Poly stay is still a surprise???

Unfortunately, I got to know one of these not so little critters well during my 09 stay at the Poly. My fiance and I were walking back from the GCH to Tokaleau (sp) when I heard a loud buzzing that suddenly stopped. When we reached the room and I went to pull my hair up into a ponytail I felt something that didn't belong:confused3 YEP it was the Palmetto bug that had apparently flown right into my hair:scared1: I am the WORST when it comes to bugs of any kind. So as I am screaming and jumping up and down having some sort of fit my fiance came over and knocked the bug out of my hair and grabbed my shoe to beat it to death wrapped it in a napkin and put it in the trash. A few minutes what do I see crawling on the floor......YEP, he's baaaaaack! So this time he grabbed his size 17 shoe and beat it to...another death and dropped him in the toilet. So we can finally relax.....not so much! When my fiance got up to use the bathroom there he was swimming about in the toilet. My fiance at that point just fell out laughing saying that he didn't even want the bug to die anymore because he admired his endurance:lmao: I quickly ran in the bathroom to flush the critter away before my fiance thought about saving him. Morale of this story........should you encounter one of these strong willed critters be prepared for BATTLE!pirate:

You are tooooo funny, I died laughing at the bugs endurance, You mean those torpedo toilets couldn't flush one down, the noise alone should have made it blow up. In my signature, I have a short video of the toilet at the POLY flushing. SCARY!:rotfl:

I remember eating at Teppanyaki in Epcot one time, and I was seated by the kitchen, when one of those giant palmetto bugs flew up out of nowhere and landed on my chest! I shrieked and stood up, sending my chair flying back into the wooden wall behind me, leaving a dent. A manager came over and told me it was a palmetto bug, but an old guy at the next table wearing a ten gallon cowboy hat looked over and said in a deadpan Texas drawl "That's about the funniest name I ever heard for a roachbug." At that point, freaked out as I was, I just about fell down laughing. I know there's a difference between a palmetto and a roach, but at that moment, I just plain didn't care.

Oh my word, funny stuff--All this bug talk is hilarious. I so picture the chair flying back and the cowboy talking & you not caring what kind of bug it was, just get it the hell away from you, RIGHT!!!! hahahahahah:lmao:

My trip to the POLY was in late July, I'm just now finishing it up my trip report. I will post it to my signature when I've completed it & let y'all know. Have a great day!:thumbsup2 Pixie dust or bust!

It truly will be a whole new Disney experience for us :woohoo: Your Poly stay is still a surprise???

We have been to Disney before and after our DS and you are correct, it is a whole new Disney experience. Once our DS is in college we will be experiencing Disney with just the two of us.

YES it's still a surprise.:thumbsup2 I was having a tough time keeping the secret but posting with mickeynut1 and she was my therapist.:rotfl: She talked me back to reality.:worship: So from now until next June it's :ssst:. The secret will be out of the bag when we pull into the Poly.:rotfl::lmao: I am going to need my DH to take the pictures because I will be crying.

Thank you  I am sure it will be great. I know we have very similar tastes...and I really would like to stay before a refurb!

You're welcome ;). We've loved every resort we've stayed at, but there is just something about the Poly that puts it at #1 for us.......something about it gives us that relaxed/resort feel that we love . I am considering a GF/Poly split for our July trip next year, but I keep thinking about the Poly and how much we love the pool/beach over the GF's pool and I can picture us enjoying a nice 8 or 9 days stuck at the Poly :cloud9:. I wouldn't mind the Poly getting an update, but I don't want to see a total refurb that changes the look/feel of the resort :(.

Can't wait to read your report......hope you have lots of pics :goodvibes.

DH and I have yet to experience Disney without our boys as we started going when they were 6 & 8 (and they are now 16 & 18 :sad1:). Now that they're older, they go off together while DH and I shop or just walk around the parks together, but I know it's totally different actually going there without kids. Part of me is excited to do that once they are out of college and on their own, but part of me will miss them because I love being at Disney as a family and it will be so different not having them there :(.

Glad to see I could help and glad to hear the Poly is still a surprise for your DS :thumbsup2. What a great surprise it's going to be.....and I have to say that I would be crying too......just the thought of how exciting it's going to be would make me cry :rotfl:.

AWWWW  I cry like that too. DH still thinks we are at CSR :lmao: and my DD CAN keep a secret...I hope I can do it...he will figure it out once we get on the DME bus I guess :goodvibes

Cdn Friends of Pooh,
I just wanted to say that 3510 is the exact room my family and I had in December 2007 when we stayed Club Level over there.

While everyone has a nap before MNSSHP tonight I thought I would take a few minutes to check in ...

We are in Hawaii, 3rd floor TPV. The view is magnificent - the castle is dead on across from us (without the island partially in the way as it was in our previous TPV stays in Tuvalu).

This is our first CL stay. With two kids we love having the lounge as extra "living space." We will definitely stay CL again. We have not been here for the dinner time food offerings yet, but have had both of our breaksfasts so far in the lounge. For us it has been perfect - we aren't huge breakfast eaters, so the oatmeal, pastries & fruit has been great. We also love coming in from the parks and stopping on our way up to grab a drink & a snack. We spent some time in the lounge last night. Although we didn't want dessert, there did not seem to be tons of food out. We did arrive around 8:00, so it is possible that the swarms descended at 7:00 and gobbled everything up. They also ran out of punch and said that they didn't have anymore. This was disappointing because when we were there there weren't a lot of people in the lounge.

We were a little disappointed with check-in. When we got off of the ME bus we were escorted into the GCH. We told the girl on the desk that we were staying CL and thought we were supposed to be checked-in in Hawaii. She said normally yes, but that the CL check-in was too busy so they took care of it in the GCH and then walked us over. :confused3

Our room is great. There are no signs of wear anywhere and the mousekeeper has kept things nice. She also leaves plenty of toiletries. For those who have been asking, in Hawaii at least, they are the new single brew pots. I'm not a coffee drinker, but my sister says they are worse than the nescrape in the lounge.

We had dinner at 'Ohana last night. Our reservation was early, so we were seated shortly after they opened. The food was delicious and hot. We did not get leis as we have at previous 'Ohana dinners, but really that was no big deal.

For those of you arriving soon, the weather has been great. Sunny with a few clouds mixed in to keep it from getting too hot with temps in the low 80's.

We've been having a great time hanging out with BreezysMom. I know woodkins is here now too, although we haven't run into her yet. Hopefully we will see her and some of our other arriving Poly peeps soon! Pictures to come (when I get a chance to upload to photobucket). Off to get ready for the party now ...

Our kids grow so fast and it makes me very sad. Our DS is a sophomore in HS so we have a couple of years left with the three of us traveling together. Kind of sad on one hand but then on the other hand, DH and I can go to Disney whenever we want and not have to work around his schooling.

Hey, I almost got caught yesterday because I was on the WDW web site looking at the Poly and was starting to cry when he came in the room. He looked at me and said, having a bad day.:rotfl: I said yes.:lmao: He gave me a hug.:cloud9: If he only knew.:rotfl2:

Oh you are so close to going, hang in there. At least your DD can keep a secret.:cutie:
