ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

By the way 43 days out and was hoping that WDW was reading my mind and getting my Mickey Mail out in time for my bday....:confused3....but no such luck. My whole family knows - hands of the Mickey Mail, if they still want their hands. Mom gets to open it like a presentation for everyone!!!!:rolleyes1

Sorry no Mickey mail, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!:wizard: I bet you will see it tomorrow!:)

huntconn, Hi :goodvibes I can't wait to hear more about your trip. :thumbsup2 , What building where you in? I am still trying to decide which one to put down as my request. Thanks.

The last several years we have been fortunate enough to stay in the Hawaii building and I can't say enough about how wonderful the club level building is. However this year we decided to save some $$ (if staying anywhere at the Poly can be considered saving $$. lol) and went with the standard GV. After some research, I decided upon Niue which seemed to be a rather unpopular choice but I have to say we absolutely loved it! We were in room 1706, last room on the quiet pool side, 1st floor. It is so close to the GCH and the Volcano pool. Just turned out to be the perfect location for us. We could walk to Capt. Cooke's in less than a minute. I really can't say enough about the location if you are interested in being close to both the GCH and Nanea pool. Highly recommended.

Thanks! I have my Banana Cabana  in hand and told DH and the kids we are going to pick a make-up day in WDW since the trip is my gift for my 40th.

As for the earthquake....nothing here that I noticed, but I spoke to my DB who works in Washington D.C. and they were all a little shooken up since everyone thought of a bomb explosion at first. Not what I call a relaxing day at work......

Just wandering... what is a Banana Cabana? :confused3

My DH told me. We travel to Colorado every February, Crested Butte, Keystone, Steamboat, Breckenridge etc. I'm sure this is a stupid question but, do you ski? My BIL lives in Durango. Have you had any aftershocks?

The earthquake was a 5.3 but south of Denver so we didn't feel it here (in the East, they feel Earthquakes 10x farther away - it's pretty crazy!). And I haven't skied in over 10 years and I've lived here for 20!!! OK, everyone may think I'm crazy (well, not on the DIS boards :rotfl:) but we can't stand spending so much money to ski (per day price is MORE expensive than Disney per day price) and pay money to stay in a hotel that is not far from our home when we could spend the same amount and go to Disney. Crazy, huh??? Oh, and my husband has had 3 knee surgeries so he has to take it easy. He COULD ski and one day we'll do it ;)

Just got back from 7 fantastic days at the Poly and wanted to give everyone a quick update on the volcano pool bracelets. They are definitely still being used. I spoke to a CM who told me they are passing them out every day from 10am to 6pm. We saw multiple people being asked to leave. Some were rather large groups. It was quite comical at times listening for people trying to explain (lie) about why they did not have their room key with them. I made a point to tell the CM how much we appreciated the fact that they were doing this and asked her to be sure to pass this on to management. Apparently the CM's who are handing out the bracelets are the attendants waiting on the cabana patrons. She did mention that if one of the attendants calls off for the day, the bracelets usually stop getting handed out as a result. I would like to post some general impressions of the Poly. Would it be more appropriate here or in the trip report thread?

SO happy to hear the wristbands are still in effect!! Thank you for the information!

Just wandering... what is a Banana Cabana? :confused3

oh YUM.......... Mango rum, guava rum, banana liqueur, orange juice, pineapple juice, and grenadine.

Makes me thirsty just writing this :thumbsup2

I totally get it, it is definitely expensive to snow ski, unfortunately were addicted to it, just as much as WDW! :wizard: This year were skipping to go to Aulani, its just as expensive, I can't get away cheap on any vacay!:upsidedow Take care!

Oh wow check in online Friday wooohoooo:woohoo: !!!! I did try to pack today but did not get finished. I cannot find my rain jacket any where ! I searched for 2 hours upstairs and down. Anyone ever take an umbrella to Disney ? I do have one of those lol. I may have to buy one of those cheap ponchos from Walmart. I also got a bunch of my clothes out and was trying on clothes deciding which I liked the most and which were comfortable :rotfl:. I had clothes every where ! I have my liquids in a quart bag for the plane except my makeup and well Im half done packing I think:confused3

Don't you love it?? DS's 4th grade teacher (starts tomorrow) is the same one he had for 2nd grade , and she's a Disney FREAK!!! Her whole room is decorated Disney. She has the cutest little table with staplers, paper clips, hole punch, etc, etc. - ALL Mickey Mouse!! When we started planning this group trip for next March, I was a little nervous about DS missing 5 days. As they get older, it gets harder. Once I found out who he had, though, worries went away!!! Helps too that our Elem. handbook specifically allows 5 days for a family vacation!! this is his last year of Elementary for him, so it may be our last school-year trip, at least where he'd miss 5 days.

Love it!! I'm going back to school to get my Master's and teaching certification soon, and I'm already thinking about my room theme. ;)

Love it!!! I've always had supportive teachers when it came to taking the kids out of school - and LOTS of other Disney fans that are teachers. Always makes it that much easier ;)

Yeah, we've never run into any issues, either. Just fun to have his teacher get it!! I work at another school in our district, and I was chatting with one of my co-workers who knows his teacher and said that her husband is hardcore WDW. :rotfl: Has printed schedules and everything. They've GOT to be on the DIS!!

That's awesome that the teachers 'get it'!! We have our open house this Thursday and I'm going to let the teachers know we are pulling the kids out for 4 days and find out if we have to prepare for homework/other assignments ahead of time. I talked to a couple of the teachers about this at end of year last year since we were already booked (DS's teacher honeymooned at WDW) and they were all really great about it but just want to give their teachers a heads up since we are leaving so soon after school starts. I think DD's teacher (1st grade) will be totally fine and we won't have work to do but thinking DS (4th grade) will have assignments to complete ahead of time - I hope not, but we'll see.

DS is in first grade and DNiece is in 4th this year (both start tomorrow). DS's teachers have always just said to have fun, while the last two years, DNiece's teachers have just had her to a journal, which I have both kids do, anyway. We'll see what they say this year. Willing to bet DS's teacher won't have too much for him. ;)

We had that last year with one of DD15 high school teachers!!!! This year she will only be missing a day and a half of school instead of 5 days. It is getting tougher on her!

Not excited about those days. Thankfully we have a little time, but he sure got to first grade quickly...I'm sure I'll turn around and he'll be in high school. :scared1:

Just had to pop in and tell everyone about my pixie dust :wizard:! I was just able to upgrade our room to club level for our Sept/Oct trip :dance3:

Little background - our family decided to try Poly CL last year for a treat, and of course, we all fell in love. My middle son keeps asking when we're going back. Meanwhile... my sister had decided to take her daughter for a long weekend at the end of September and asked if we'd like to tag along - I'm sure you all know my immediate answer to that :woohoo:. So, since I've taken my oldest on a "mom/son" trip a couple of year ago, we decided it was second DS's turn. Added to that, we'll be there to celebrate his 11th birthday!!

I had us booked in a GV room as soon as the AP discount came out, but have been checking daily for CL availablility and today was the day :yay: I'm just so excited - I really didn't think we were going to be able to get it.
Thanks for listening to my excited ramblings....

Just wanted to pop in and say hi from the lounge in Hawaii... Flight delayed a bit due to the earthquake, but arrived safely and in time for wishes last night!!!

Congratulations on getting the level of service for which you had been hoping! Must have been some last minute cancellations or resort changers. :thumbsup2

I hope you enjoy your stay and glad that pesky quake didn't hinder your plans for arrival! Let us know what you think of your visit.

OT: Anyone else having trouble with e-mail notifications from the DIS again? I haven't seen anything on any of my subscribed threads since last week. I know this happens periodically and usually "magically" resolves itself. I hope it is fixed soon--what a pain to use the USER CP to follow links. :sad2:

Family dollar stores have $2.00 ponchos, black or clear. I've never seen an umbrella that I recall at WDW! I'm usually packed about a month out, then again I'm weird because, I buy all new clothes for everyone in family for trip, easy to pack when your not wearing the clothes. Everyone makes fun of me! Good luck with rest of packing...
