That is actually exactly what we did once we arrived on Thursday last week. We were placed in Rarotonga and it was a mess. Loud construction, smokey, loud DJ in the pool and just a pain to get to the longhouse in general due to paths being blocked. I am 6 months pregnant so I may have been more irritable than most but I couldn't handle all the noise so we called and switched to AKL savannah view. It was the best decision we could have ever made, it's amazing here :)

When you switched did you have to pay rack rate at animal kingdom ?

Like everyone else I am watching construction updates with interest. We are booked in to club level garden view rooms in early Aug. We have stayed at the Poly several times before but I am m finding it hard to picture exactly which areas will be impacted in terms of construction.

If we are garden view it seems likely our view will look out over the East pool construction site (assuming that the main pool is finished by then!) I can live with that as we won't be spending much time on the balcony/patio anyway however can someone fill me in on whether the DVC bungalow construction will be finished by then and whether we will still be able to walk to the GCH via the beach path and past the main pool? Also will the main beach in front of the Hawaii building be open and can you still have a good view of the fireworks from the concierge lounge?

Anyone care to share there GardenView room view from Hawaii?

I believe Steve has mentioned there are indeed some GV rooms on the Lagoon Side of the building... per the floorplan on his website:

Bungalow construction will be completed by August... therefore the entire beach and it's walkways... 'should' be open.

With the new pool deck and fence though... I get the impression that, unless you physically enter the pool (with magic band), you won't be able to 'cut through' from the beach walkway.

Otherwise, the walkway will lead you in between Samoa and Hawaii and route you through the East Pool courtyard to the GCH.

I think we'll know more by April!

Currently, even with construction, a section of beach is still open to the public in front of Hawaii and fire works are still visable from the lounge.

Brilliant thanks you have put my mind at rest. Fingers crossed that everyone gets the holiday they deserve wherever they end up.

So you can't see the fireworks from the beach right now?

I posted video/pictures of the current beach area on the construction thread.

Yes. You can see Fireworks from the Beach Area.

The viewing angle is no longer 'straight on' thanks to the bungalow construction... but you're still able to view them [mostly] unobstructed.

You're also able to view them from the smaller beach between the GF and Poly, in front of Luau Cove. This has always been an option, but the angle was never as 'good' as viewing around Sunset Point.

Once the current fences around the Beach come down (ideally by 4/1) we'll see how impactful the Bungalows are for viewing from currently closed off areas.

Nobody has seen the current viewing angles from behind those 'walls'. Based on pictures, it looks as if they've 'raised' (or maintained the higher elevation of) Sunset Point to have a direct viewing angle 'over' the bungalows. It's certainly not the beach... but probably a better viewing option.

Either way... Fireworks can be viewed from the Beach area. They're also currently viewable from the Lobby (with the removal of fountain) and soon to be main pool area.

Hello! Just wondering about some information about King beds, I've been trying to find information but im still a little confused. So here's my question, are all the king beds in suites? If not how do you go about getting a king bed?

There are King beds located in several Long Houses... all of which are available by Request Only, when booking a Garden View room.

There are no King Beds offered at Club Level (Hawaii Long House) and Lagoon or Theme park view. Several Suites located in the Tonga Long House offer Kings.

Thanks to Tikiman's awesome Floor Plans... you can get an idea where the King Beds are located:

Are there any pics/info of the new lagoon bungalows? Planning a trip for next March and would love to see them!

180 days to go! Made dining reservations this morning...with some success. Got the restaurants I wanted, just not the best times. Could not access on-line reservations. Kept getting an error message, so I had to call. They are always so nice on the phone! We will be going to Spirit of aloha for the first time. I think the kids are going to love it:flower:Can't wait to just walk back "home" after the show!!!

Now, if the Poly Gods will just answer my prayers about the main pool's completion........

I'm losing hope that the Tiki Icon will be placed on the ceremonial fountain :(
I guess we will know for sure come April 1st or around that time.
