Did syndrome come back yet? I read so many posts from syndrome , wonder how the trip was?

I was at dinner tonight and missed a call from a lady at WDW said she was calling about our September trip to the Poly (17-20) and that it was very important that they speak to me. She was only in until 7:30 so I wasn't able to return her call but will do so and report back if its anything.

Oh pls let us know the outcome!!! Inquiring Poly lovers of Sept NEED to know! Lol

Lets hope for the sake of people who have already planned a trip that Tahiti stays open and it was just an overbooking thing. Its just rare they ask people to move to another resort unless some building will be closed. Usually they move them into club level. The only other issue may be that if Tahiti stayes open and what I was told about the work on the lagoon starting in September I would not think people would be happy to be in Tahiti with heavy equipment on the beach. I am assuming to do the supports out in the water will take some serious equipment. I think they would be better off to close Tahiti while that is going on.

I guess we will find out once September is here.

Tikiman,

That is part of our concern. We are booked in early Oct
for a TPV non CL room, and I would not be happy if we checked into a room with our TPV blocked by cranes or construction. My hubby and I talked it over and have agreed we would rather get moved to another hotel.

When we booked this trip for our 10th Anniversary, we knew the rooms would be expensive. We expected to pay a premium for such an amazing view. What we would not anticipate is this view being blocked by construction. We don't want to change hotels, but our wish is to stay at a quiet, tropical themed hotel watching the fireworks from our balcony from a clean, well-appointed room.

I received the "upgrade" call (posted about it earlier) and thought it was weird too. I have a standard room booked. Is there standard rooms in Tahiti? I guess they are going to try and move some standard room people?

If there is a lot of stuff going on with the lagoon construction, can we still go out to see the fireworks? Sorry, I've never been out to that part of the resort so I'm a little disoriented.

Poly People... At the risk of sounding like a crazy party girl (I can assure you, I'm not :) ). Has anyone tried turning a dole whip into an adult beverage? I still don't quite know what DW is like, but if it's slushy I am thinking it would be amazing with rum or vodka! If it's like ice cream I'm guessing you'd just get a sloppy mess.

Last time we stayed at the Poly I got a dole whip from captain cooks, took it back to my room and poured pineapple juice over it, it was exactly like the dole whip floats you can get at MK. Of course, that only works if you pack a couple little cans of pineapple juice with you on your trip since I didn't see them for sale at the Poly (thankfully we drive so packing some extra treats like that isn't a problem). I bet if you mixed some rum with the pineapple juice or poured straight rum over the dole whip it'd be just as good. Dole whips are pretty much the consistency of ice cream, but when you add anything to them (juice, milk, alcohol) it basically turns it into a yummy pineapple-y milkshake!

So, like a rum float?
:scratchin

Oh wait... I suppose I can stir it into the milkshake consistency you speak of. Thank you for the advice!

(And yes, I'm the one who was asking about bringing a bottle of Kahlua for my decaf coffee when we're watching fireworks on the beach.) Like I said, I'm not a party animal... I'm just raising 3 little girls and when I am going on first vacation in several years, you can bet I'm going to do what I can to live it up.
:dance3:

Heck I might even switch that decaf to regular.

We have poly booked 11/18-11/25. Up until today, I had been feeling pretty comfortable that any major construction would not be starting until the beginning of the year. Suddenly, there seems to be a lot of talk about closings/ construction beginning in September.

We are very, very excited about our Poly stay - it's something we've always hoped to be able to do and kind of a splurge for us. I'm really hesitant to change to another resort b/c my family is SO looking forward to staying at Poly. So, I'm wondering - what happens if we don't change and there is major construction happening when we get there? Is our only option to just deal and use GF pool? Will we be offered the option of switching resorts at check-in?

I keep seeing talk of people changing to different resorts in advance, but does Disney do anything to work with guests if they don't act in advance (especially since interactions with CMs have given us no reason to believe we should need to)?

Me! I also think there is another & we are both 3rd floor volcano pool side. We were the ones swimming VERY quietly & VERY late.

Hey maxsmom if you see us say hi! Dh and I are both wearing T-shirts that say 30th wedding anniversary and birthday celebration and the kids have t-shirts on that say Alexander celebration vacation. Let me know if you will be out swimming late tonight and I will wander out and say hi.

I was thinking about the construction situation and came up with a few things that might help.

Since we think it will be starting in September it would be best not to request Tahiti.

When construction starts they will probably only work during the day. This is when most of us will be spending a majority if not all day in the parks. We wont be here to hear the noise.

Also where view is concerned the garden side of Tokelau should be okay but there are also a lot of different longhouses that offer garden view and we can request those.

Unless we are staying in Tahiti most of us use the beach at the pool or in front of Hawaii to view the fireworks so that shouldn't be horribly effected

I am sure the Poly will do all it can to shield us from the construction.

I am still going to book for December and not worry about it.

Just some thoughts.

You should do a google search. Disney did the rum Dole Whip for the Flower and Garden festival this year, I'm sure you could find the recipe or at least get an idea. :goodvibes

I discovered it really pays to strike up conversations with people. This morning I was sitting outside and started talking to this lady about how much my kids were getting into pin trading and how much we have spent on it since getting here. She suggested going on to Ebay and looking for lots of pins, which are a fraction of the cost in the parks. I just did it and was amazed at the amount of pins I could get for a fraction of the cost we have put out here for just a few pins. I am definitely ordering some as soon as we get home for our next trip. Then the kids will be able to trade to their hearts desire and I wont have to be figuring out what bank I am going to rob ROFL!! I seriously have put out about 300.00 in pins since we got here and at 29.99 for 7 pins that is not many pins at all.

we are thinking about swapping one night offsite for one night at the polynesian our first night of our stay in Sept (sept 5-6).

We have an 8:30 Keys to the Kingdom tour that friday morning (the 6th). I was thinking it would be nice to arrive in Orlando, check in, get our room (our flight gets in around noon), then go to the outlets, come back, get dinner, walk around, watch the fireworks from the beach, and then just hop the monorail to our tour. We can leave our car and just drive from there to the Dolphin (our next hotel) after that.

However, the price is astronomical. I think it was $380+tax for just one night. That seems like a lot to pay for convenience. If it matters, our stay was already split, we are doing 2 nights at the dolphin and 2 nights at POR due to pricing/availability. We had this one night in a tower room at WBC but now are wondering if we should throw down the $$ and try the polynesian, since there's no way we'd pay that for a 6-night stay.

Someone a few pages back asked about bathroom vents in the refurbished rooms. When we were just there in Hawaii, the vents were motion based. It would go on when you went in the bathroom (or turned on the the lights) but then would go off if it couldn't detect any motion. The timer seemed a little too short, though, so it would go off 3/4-way through a shower, and you would have to stick your arm out from behind the curtain and wave for it to go back on. :) otherwise worked pretty well, and some of the mirrors seemed to be condensation-resistant as well.
Loved the new room overall.

Just be careful. A lot of the pins on EBay are fakes and poor quality, and won't be traded. Google it and you'll see lots of stories about it.

We were in Samoa in July.....the first time it kicked on it never went off!!!! They had to come in and "unplug" it!!!

Hopefully they remember to plug it back in and fix it

Yes, you can change resorts upon arrival provided there is availability at another resort. Disney wants their guests to be happy, so they will do everything they can to accommodate that :).

I agree. We are booked CL for a couple of nights right before Christmas and construction or not, I am keeping our reservation and I'm not going to worry about it. We love the Poly and I can overlook construction because there are so many other beautiful areas of the Poly to look at :goodvibes.
