ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

As usual, I'm up late with no sleep in sight the night before I leave for Disney. :lmao: I'll try to post after we've checked in tomorrow but no promises. I may be running on fumes and anxious to sleep with the castle outside my window. :cloud9:

Almost forgot--will be bringing along 'Stitch' to take pictures with his favorite libation, the LapuLapu :thumbsup2

OK, I apologize in advance as this is going to be one of "those" questions. We stayed at the Poly on our last trip and now it is the only place for us. But I am trying to recall if the Boutiki sells beach towels. We're coming out in August and I was thinking of bringing one for the lounge chairs at the pool, but if I could get one with the Poly on it or something equally tiki themed, I'd rather wait and buy it there.

Anybody got any info on this? Thanks!

I'm the same way every night especially the night before Disney!;)

I was there quite a bit last trip and I remember, beach towels and swim suits, sunglasses, etc.:thumbsup2

Used my Polynesian towel at the Disneyland Hotel pool last week!! I got it at Boutiki last year.

Hope this helped, or even made sense lol. Any other questions just ask.
It certainly did help. You answered all my questions - thank you!
We still had fun. I just wasn't expecting thunder and lightning every day. I know the weather forecast predicted a chance of rain every day, but I had it in mind that meant just a brief shower lol. The good part of the storms was that the parks cleared out for a while after the storms every day!
I understand what you went through. We've been there during tropical storms and you just get so tired of being wet (even when you're in a rain coat). I'd go inside wet and then I'd be freezing. I hope your next trip is drier:)

The rain held out long enough to get us to the magic kingdom to eat at Tonys tonight. Great meal with a fun server. Only complaint is they couldn't seat our party together at one table even after waiting fifty minutes beyond our ADR time.

As for club level ... It is only our first day but we have noticed a few differences from previous visits. They now have a shade closing off the food areas when it's not a serving time. For instance, after breakfast the shade is drawn. The downside to this is that the club staff is not as accessible in the early afternoon hours for things you need to ask for which are kept in the back like chocolate milk or the large bottles of water for the room.

We were not here for the 5 to 7 offerings today so I cannot comment on that. We did arrive back in the lounge at 9:40 to watch wishes and there was only a few brownies and one other dessert left. Nothing was replenished while we were there and they promptly drew the shade at 10.

It's getting late and I'm beat after a long day. Tomorrow we planning on breakfast in the lounge and then some time at the pool.

Overall a great day and we are glad to be here once again,

Let us know how breakfast was. Did you have a trouble getting a seat? Was there plenty of food stocked?

Have fun today and I hope it doesn't rain for you:goodvibes

We understand that you might be a little distracted and you might forget about all the little people:laughing:. Have a safe and dry trip!

Yes, the Boutiki sells beach towels, but most of them are the generic beach towels you can get anywhere else on property.

Happy Canada Day - Bonne fête du Canada to all of my fellow Poly lovers from north of the border! We'll be watching fireworks from the beach tonight!! pixiedust: (although from our beautiful beach here at home, not the Poly. That will have to wait another 3 months!)

Question for those of you in the hospitality industry (or anyone else who may know the answer ;)) If a wedding party or convention blocks out rooms for their event, is there a certain date when those rooms become available again to the public? (i.e. 30 days before the event or something like that?)

The reason I'm asking is that I spoke with a great CM yesterday regarding our Sept/Oct trip to the Poly. I'm trying to book a room with the AP discount (currently have the GP; AP is slightly better), but there is no availability with the AP. The CM said that if there's a wedding or convention, they may have rooms blocked out, but once they release those rooms, I may have better luck. I'm just trying to figure out when that "release" date might be (didn't think to ask the CM when we were on the phone - she just suggested to call back in a couple of weeks).

Thanks for any help!!

That cut off date varies, but I would say 30 days out would be a good guess.

I'm sitting here in the lounge enjoying the beautiful sunny view of the castle and watching the boats go back and forth.

There are plenty of seats available and I do not see any questionable behavior from guests though being a mother of five 4 of which are boys those type of things do not bother me :rotfl:

The food offerings are delicious oatmeal, bagels, cinnamon buns, and fruit. The fruit is just okay. It tastes stale to me like it's been in the frig a few days. I must confess I enjoy fresh fruit and the fruit at the poly doesn't measure up to other club

Ivette is working in the lounge this morning and she is so sweet. She has watched our children grow up over the years. She truly makes us feel as if we are home. She is very helpful with getting chocolate milk and yogurt.

We are off to the pool. I'll write more about the room later

Just paid off our trip! I am sooo excited!! It always makes me feel like.. now we are really going! LOL

We love the Poly CL WDWKOOK!

Here is our experience:

Rooms were clean and updated looking infact when we were leaving last Sept they were painting, pulling up carpet and refinishing furniture.

CL was clean, there will always be ppl who dont clean up after themselves or let their kids run wild.. Food was always replenished.

Staff was very nice, chef would come out explain dishes and even encourage you to take more.

When the shade is drawn, we would just knock on the door and they would come out and assist us. At the noon hour when they would put out goldfish, gummy sharks, popcorn, yogurt raisins, cookies and water, jucies and soda the shade was drawn but you could hear them in there and ask for help.

Michael was amazing, so friendly always smiling and so helpful!! I hope he is still there when we get there early Sept!!

Sounds wonderful! :wizard:

The pool is great today. Perfect weather. Wristbands are being enforced.

Just witness a group of three who had ordered drinks at the bar be asked to leave because they were not resort guests. They weren't too happy but we sure appreciate having a seat at our resort. I hope they continue enforcing the rule.

It is so awesome to have you there giving us daily info, as if we were there! I want to keep you there forever to make me feel like I'm in the know or living vicariously.:wizard:

Thanks for the live report on the current lounge conditions. That gorgeous lounge view has been on my mind since I booked and you've made me feel better about CL there.

It's my DH's first CL stay and his first visit back to WDW after his deployment so I've been extra fussy over the second half of our split. The first half is the CR which is our favorite, so no worries there. I want his first CL experience to leave a great impression and we've stayed at the Poly twice before, but never CL. I was just getting worried over some of the negative CL reviews I've been reading about fellow guests, over-crowding, not so clean rooms, food running out and grouchy CMs. In fact, the Poly CL is the lowest rated of all the WDW CLs on AllEars:sad2:

Thanks for making me feel better, too. You said all the right things and I appreciate your honesty:goodvibes

OK, now I'm really excited. If they're willing to turn away a customer because they aren't a guest then they really mean business with the wristbands. This is a big relief to me since that pool always seems so crowded and chairs hard to come by. I just hope this isn't only for the July 4th weekend and that they continue to enforce the rules permanently.
