ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Well, after thinking it over for several months, I decided to call & request a longhouse for May's trip (VERY quickly approaching!). I was gonna leave it up to the Tiki gods, but in the end decided to try for Fiji once again. We have stayed there two times already (once on each side), loved it, so we know what we are in for. Maybe not too adventurous, buy I know if this request is granted, we will be more than happy. It DID take 2 calls to get it added to our reservation (I already requested a balcony & to be in the same LH as my DD's & their BFs). The first CM said it could not be done, the second added it with no problem. :yay:

Hi need some help with a random club level question....

I am trying to decide whether to make a grocery delivery or not. Given that we are staying club level - we really don't need much. My main sticking point is the water. The tap water in Fl scares me - so what is available in the club lounge. I know that they no longer give out water bottles - but will I be able to fill a glass with bottled water for drinking in my room at night?

Anybody have soem experience with this lately.

TIA

All you need do is ask for a glass bottle or two for your room. You are more than welcome to take the large ones to your room for your personal use.

The usual Coke suspects are available in the lounge (Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite), along with coffee, tea, milk, lemonade, iced tea, juices, etc. Only the Coke case is open throughout the night. The balance of the drinks are available throughout the day during the various services.

Having really severe Poly withdrawals and yearnings today! I've even been scanning flights and costs. 223 days til our Nov return. I don't want to wish spring and summer away, but I cannot wait to return. Tammydel, your pics and updates from the resort and parks are making me feel closer to my favorite place! Thanks. Enjoy every minute while there! :)

Wow, looks like we timed our trip right. Tokelau is our favorite building. But the pool construction has extended outwards from when we were there March 25-April 2. The West entrance to Tokelau and all those walkways there were open. Don't think I'd want to be in Tokelau right about now!

These rumors don't give me warm fuzzies. :( I'm kind of a purist...

I sort of feel the same way, I love everything about the place and can't imagine it changed in any way.

This line from Steve's site makes sense though:
"The only thing I have heard is that the Great Ceremonial House is in need of work to the extent that it might have to be taken down."

I know that when standing on the second level, especially over by Samoa Snacks, when there are a lot of people moving around up there you can feel the floor swaying under you. I've always wondered about that. Maybe it speaks to deeper problems that really do need to be addressed.

Hopefully, they'll stay true to the overall feel that the resort has. I really hope that, if this does come to fruition, they find a way to get the "Poly Smell" back into the GCH after the rumored new construction. There's nothing quite like arriving at the resort and smelling that for the first time.

I requested Tokelau for our May trip in 4 weeks. :headache: I was hoping for a nice garden view with easy access to a zero entry quiet pool for my small kids.

My 3 year old had a blast there at the quiet pool last year, even without the zero entry. :) Whether or not it's open or not is another story! Fingers crossed for everyone going soon.

Like Tess said, just ask for a bottle or 2 from the lounge staff and pop them in your room fridge. We would get 2 each night, fill our night glasses with them and have the rest to fill our park bottles in the morning. The staff will offer to open them for you (let them!) since they need a bottle opener. :thumbsup2

I am having a basket delivered to our room for my friend... we are staying Club Level, not that it matters but should they drop it off at the bell stand outside or take it inside?

From today's AllEars newsletter:

REMINDER: Due to the anticipated holiday crowds, on April 24 the parking lots at the Contemporary Resort, the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and the Polynesian Resort will be restricted to only those staying at the resort, attending a convention event at the resort or with dining, recreation or spa reservations.

Hi Everyone!

We're doing a crazy trip in June with 3 nights at POFQ, 3 at Vero Beach, and the last night at WDW.

Right now we've booked our last night at WL but I'm looking to possibly upgrade to POLY CL for a Father's Day/Mom's Birthday/Parent's 30th Anniversary as a surprise. My parents have never stayed CL before and I thought this would be a great present and way to unwind after a week at WDW/Beach! We just stayed at WL in Dec so Poly would be a nice change and give us tons to do since we won't be doing parks our last day & 1/2.

*Questions...

Do the showers at the pool have shampoo/soap?

I read that the 2nd floors don't have balcony's..Has anyone had a room like that? Are you able to pull the chair up and make your own "balcony?" It's not a deal breaker since we're paying for Garden View but just more curious.

Our DME will pick us up at 3pm so we'll have a pretty good amount of time to kill if we aren't able to get late check-out for 1pm. I've used the health club showers when I stayed at YC CL and they had everything you'd need to shower. It would be nice to know this to plan ahead as far as packing/shower supplies and I read that you can use the Health Club at GF but didn't know if they supplied shampoo/soap/towels/etc at the Poly pool showers.

THANKS SO MUCH!

The first person to post on my Poly May 2001 thread! I'm amazed it is single digit dance time already!!! :dance3:
Sending :tink: Poussière de fée for a wonderful time! I can't wait to hear all the details when you return with lots of pictures!

Still looking for the answer? :confused3

When the delivery company brings the basket, the folks out front should take it and deliver it. Delivery companies are not supposed to be running around the property in the guest buildings.

Thanks for the advice!!! This saves me another thing to think about inthe next couple of weeks!

Have a great day everyone!!!

I know last yr when DH ordered flowers from disneyflorist a CL CM actually brought it to our room.. As well as when you send packages from the parks instead of going to the Boutiki shop to pick it up, they are delivered to your room, we would come in each day and the packages would be on our bed.

I tried twice yesterday to post pictures, both times messes up and had to start over.... Here is the view from our cabana:

Here some photos of the "premium" cabana. There were guests using it so had had to take my pictures from afar....
