ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

For the record... The T-shirt idea was totally BlueJasmine's- I just restated because it was a great idea, and I didn't see anyone respond to her.

I'm totally taking credit for the" logo on our bums" idea though!! :rotfl2:

If y'all drink enough, stay away from the tattoo parlors lol! ;)

It is such a clean, soft scent that its been my favorite since 2008. I buy a bottle each trip, the price for the original scent is only $55 (or it has been) so I think its a good buy, especially since I pay $70 for my Ed Hardy..

I missed this conversation! Where do you find Laila? I'm keen to take a whiff now. :goodvibes

Well, don't hate me either, I was born in Chicago and my MIL lives on LSD and we hope to retire to TX or FL someday. But, I was raised in Bloomington, IN and DH is retired Air Force so we've been all over. I get that same look with "Northern VA," and usually have to add, "it's near DC."

LSD?! Yikes, she wasn't one of the hundreds who had their cars stuck during February's blizzard, was she? Otherwise, LSD -- :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

LSSSG...BRILLIANT!!!! I had my first Lapu Lapu last trip to the Poly and I scraped and scraped at that pineapple:lovestruc MyDH thought I was crazy. I knew I wasnt alone:goodvibes Now I know...bring a spork!:thumbsup2

Sporks are our new weapon of choice. :rotfl:

Missoutandabout... Let's make T-shirts!!

Can you make us a LSSSG logo big enough to print on an iron-on transfer?

LMAO I made that suggestion the other day!

:lmao: Y'all are too much. Let me take a look at the original; it's quite small unfortunately. But, I can always try and see what I can do with it over on Cafe Press. Will get back to the LSSSG when I conjure something up.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Very, very good thing there are no tattoo parlours at Poly.

You can get Laila at the Norway Pavillion altho last Sept I was in Main St Jewelers and saw it there as well, which was suprising Ive never seen it out side of Norway before..

Hi everyone - just wanted to jump into the mix as we booked our September trip back to the Poly last night!!
We debated for a bit on the resort as we've been to Poly 2x and considered the Contemporary for this trip - but there was no availability and have no notion to stay at GF (no real reason why). We looked at BC CL as it was cheaper too, but just didn't want to give up the monorail with the kids - so we are coming back for a 3rd time!! As the designated planner / Disney crazy in my family I was completely surprised when DH suggested we stay CL!! We have never done this, but once he saw the amount of food / drink available - he realized we would likely save money on food/snacks for the kiddos. So we will be staying in Hawaii for the first time and are so excited. I have to start reading all the CL posts now so I know what to expect. Let the planning begin!

Missoutandabout- thanks for the signature help. It worked!

As to my friend's husband, he is still in the hospital, He had sepsis and pneumonia. The sepsis is better but his left lung has gotten worse. My friend brought the girls home and her brother in law has flown to Orlando to stay with him until she can make arrangements to fly back down.

My friend did say that the folks at the Poly were very helpful and didn't make them check out of their room until it was time to go to the airport. They also provided breakfast at CC for free one morning.

If y'all make shirts with the lapu lapu stich pic on it, I want one!

Hahaha, been shirking off work...

So, I tried Cafe Press but it would only allow me to add one image at a time (either front or back) with their "free store" -- so that was no good! I found a competitor of Cafe Press called Printfection and threw some quick T-shirt designs up; they allow front and back designs without having to purchase a "premium store." Not sure how it works other than that! Seems pretty straightforward though. Revamped with a new Stitch and put up some women's and men's shirts (and spaghetti tanks for us!) and a tote bag.

Anyhow, I don't want to get in trouble for posting a link (not sure of the rules, though I know Etsy folks can't post their store links -- although this is not for profit. :confused3) Does anyone know if it's fine to post the store link as long as you don't profit from it? If not, you can always PM me for it. :goodvibes

I forgot to complain.

We downgraded our Poly room to GV CL (from TPV) due to adding on some days to the beginning of our trip to spend some time with my parents. Originally, I was kinda bummed about it, though after giving it a good think, we'd only really be in the room 3 of the 4 nights tops. One of the nights we'll be at the MNSSHP and I figure we'd probably just go down to the beach or hang out in the lounge for the remaining evenings. Someone tell me that's okay... :rotfl:

Oh, and I just had another thought for the LSSSG stuff: If anyone is super crafty handy -- unlike me -- and would prefer to make their own iron-on transfers, just download whichever of the images you prefer below and have fun:

Well I wouldn't call myself super crafty handy but making shirts is pretty simple. If anyone does want to give it a go I HIGHLY recommend the transfers from dharma (dharmatrading dot com), click on transfer products then ink jet papers. The supersoft ones are fabulous and disappear into the shirts (use on white or any light color but the color will show through in all white spots), and the sparkle and glitter papers are quite fabulous too. :thumbsup2 Dharma is 1/2 the price you would pay at a craft store for the papers... pricing is the same but you get 10 sheets vs 5 at a craft place, and they last and don't peel (epson inks do fade on them though others don't). ;)

I may have to make myself a blinged out tote bag, use some glitter paper and have a little fun. :cutie:

Thanks so much Missoutandabout! I checked out that site- they look awesome. but... I really do love makin' stuff. I can't wait to try. maybe I'll purchase some of those transfers first though- not the first time I've heard that praise about them. Thanks again! Your logos are SO CUTE!

My pleasure. :goodvibes I like messing around on Photoshop anyway so it's fun.

Thanks for that link, Dizneechic! Hmmm, I might be tempted to try that out myself -- that's if I can find my iron. :lmao:

Hi ... I have been reading all the horrible reviews on tripadvisor lately and I have to say WOW! is it really that bad?? I will be staying there in May...:)

You have always got to take trip advisor reviews with a grain of salt, for any hotel! You've also come to a thread that is filled with Poly lovers :lovestruc so you will probably hear a lot of positive things here. I've stayed at the Poly 3x and enjoyed it every time! I do stay at other Disney resorts and other Deluxe hotels around the world so I can also compare honestly. Many of the negative reviews (I have found) come from people that feel that the 'deluxe' nature of the hotel means it should feel like a Four Seasons or a Waldorf Astoria. But deluxe hotels at Disney have specific amenities (like any Hilton or Sheraton would offer) with 'inside' hallways and premium location (and usually premium transportation too) to at least one park.

At the Poly, you definitely pay for the location (directly across the lagoon from MK with a view of Cinderella's castle). And you pay for the monorail transportation to MK and just a short walk to the TTC to get to Epcot. But the rooms sometimes have minor issues and are heavily used. Add that to the 'darker' tones in the room and people tend to feel like these are old and dark rooms. If you compare the room to a light, bright, Hilton then it may look a bit this way. But the rooms are great and very large and the atmosphere is very unique.

So, come back and post what is concerning you and we will give you an honest answer.

Thank you! I think the thing that is concerning me is the old rooms remark as well as Housekeeping issues. I understand Deluxe is no way the Four Seasons. I am excited for my stay at the Poly. Now if I can only get a reservation at Ohana's it would be perfect. I am going in May....=)

Tinkerbellie hit the nail on the proverbial head with her post. :thumbsup2

I was in your position last year before our first stay at the Poly, Yolie. There were lots of negative reviews being posted right before we went and it started to make me worry a bit. I was worried about the kitschy feel of it and whether it was rundown. I decided, for my sanity's sake, to stop reading them and that I'd make up my own mind when we got there. We went in with little expectation other than it being convenient due to being on the Monorail.

We were definitely pleased with the Poly -- enough so, that we're going back this year. My husband, a bona fide Disney skeptic and a hater of all things tacky, even enjoyed it. We stayed GV and sure, the room had some wear-and-tear but taking into consideration how many people must stay at the Poly every year, I was willing to cut them some slack. Mousekeeping was efficient. It was just overall a very nice place to stay. Poly has a very laid back feel to it and its proximity to the TTC makes its location unbeatable.
