ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

So, I broke down and just added an ADR for dinner at 'Ohana after hearing so many people rave about it. We were going to try to have one day with no ADRs but apparently I just couldn't do it!

The only time available was pretty late (8:40) but the plan is to hit late night EMH that night, so I think it will end up working out.

I wanted to report that my DH and 2 DDs were asked for room keys at the Volcano pool today! :thumbsup2 My DH told the CM that his wife (me ;) ) would be very happy to hear that! He smiled and said, "Here's one for her then", and gave my DH a blue wristband for me. The guy said it wasn't fair when the people from their own resort can't find room at the pool because people are coming out of the parks and stopping to use the pool. Amen!!!!

Do you know if they are checking them for the beach area as well? We are leaving for the Poly in a week and are hoping the beach won't be overcrowded during Wishes.

You will enjoy it!! We plan to do the Ohana breakfast paying oop. Of all our adr's, Ohana is relatively inexpensive. Not sure if that is so for the dinner. But we enjoy it there, so what they hey? :goodvibes

:dance3: Finally! I'm happy for the wristbands!

That's fabulous!!! I am glad to hear that!! It is really crowded there all the time, and it is very, very hard to find a lounge chair about 98% of the time we are there. I often wonder if everyone at the pool is staying at the resort, especially when someone asks me where I am staying??? :rolleyes1 Really??? So, this news pleases me...:)

Glad to hear the news about the Volcano Pool...hopefully it's true for those guest that pay to stay at the Poly. The ONLY complaint I had when we were there was the pool situation. Other than that...it was awesome!!!!!

Hello, I am considering staying at the POLY. I have a few questions.
When was the last time the rooms were updated? also I see Ohana's breakfast took off the mickey waffles. Is this true??

Thanks everyone!

Staying at the Poly for the 1st time Aug. 21-28. This thread has been so helpful. I'm celebrating my 40th b-day along with WDW!! Never thought I'd be this excited about turning 40. It's amazing what Disney magic can do.

You picked a great time to be going. September is a beautiful month at WDW! Let us know if you have any questions about the Poly. :goodvibes

Thank you so much! The first post in this thread is so informative I don't have any questions just yet! :)

The rooms went through a soft rehab (worn linens and furniture being replaced, odds and ends touched up...) last year, and I believe some are still being freshened. The last complete rehab was in 2006.

As of September 2010 the 'Ohana still had the waffles. I know that was a while ago, so maybe someone who's been recently will comment.

As of December the Mickey waffles were still there. I can't imagine giving them up. :confused3 If your info was from allears yolie912 I know that recently there was a lot of talk of 'Ohana discontinuing some of the appetizers on their dinner menu (potstickers & wings, I think) and it just turned that they have been omitted on the allears menu updates (several posters confirmed they are still serving these items). I wonder if it's the same situation with the waffles?

You beat me! We definitely had Mickey waffles in December. In fact, it's the only thing my gpa could eat due to a stomach ache.

When we were there last Sept they were pulling up carpets, painting, carrying out furniture to be refinished. They didnt have to do that to our room and it was beautiful! Not at all outdated! Perfect Polynesian theme!:thumbsup2

This is good news! I hope they do it all the time. Is it wrong to feel this way about using the hammocks on the beach too???

It's difficult to make the decision to stay at the Poly in the cheapest room (garden view) for a week and only pay about 20 bucks less than if you get a one bedroom villa at Beach Club, Boardwalk, or WL!! (That's just an example of what the difference is for my upcoming trip - not a generalized statement.) So yes, when you pay that much for one standard room, you'd like to think you get some benefits of the resort that no one else can get unless staying there. There, I said it. I feel better.

I agree!:thumbsup2

I have to compliment Guitarob on his TR! Awesome pictures!!!:thumbsup2 I just finished reading it last night. If you Poly lovers haven't seen those pictures, you need to check them out! The early morning shots are my favorite...IMO that's the best time to walk around the Poly and take in all the great sights...it's almost like you have the entire resort to yourself. Great job, Guitarob!!!!
