Well it is good to know that I am not alone on not liking community hot tubs. I have read several times that people won't stay at the Poly because it doesn't have a hot tub.

This is true!! Many people feel this way:confused3 Kinda makes me laugh. We have never chosen a resort based on whether there is a hot tub or not. Guess there will be some very happy people if the Poly decides to put one in.

Hot tubs are people soup! I don't even love taking a bath in my own water, let alone with lots of strangers. I generally avoid them, but occasionally I have a moment of weakness. I know how gross they are but I enjoy the way they feel, expecially on a cool night after a long day in the parks. And then enjoy a hot shower with lots of soap!

Bottom line for me is I wouldn't choose a resort based on the presence or lack of a hot tub!

But oh, no! I hope the quiet pool is not under construction when we're there in July!

I know, me too! We're CL GV - I hope it will be open from the 15th - 19th!

i hope its open july 19-29 theyd be stupid to close it during july where its hot and crowded that means the volcano pool will just be more croswded i hope disney waits untill after july 29 to start the construction

I guess I will throw my hot tub opinion in here...I am not a fan of community hot tubs. I look and them and cringe. I do know that it is a huge complaint about the Poly. Since I avoid them, I could care less.

I have to say that I am not really happy to hear that they are possibly putting one in near the quiet pool area :confused3 We like to stay CL GV and really enjoyed the quietness of the area throughout the day and evening. A hot tub located in that area will change that for sure.

Also, if you think pool hopping is a problem now?? I can see the ABC family, who is staying at another resort, having dinner at Ohana, staying for the fireworks and then taking a dip in the hot tub afterward :rolleyes1

I guess we will wait and see how this all plays out?

I am not a fan of community hot tubs either.
I will look forward to hearing more on this potential rehab. I think we might possibly change resorts and stay there another visit if they decide to rehab the pool during our stay. I don't want to pay the kind of $$ to stay at the Poly just to look at construction. I realize rehabs have to be done but...:headache:

Anywho, my question is about the sitting areas in the longhouses. Do they all have these areas? Are they w/in site of the door to any rooms?
I ask b/c we are at a resort now in Myrtle Beach b/c my husband had to come to a conference. Our DS2 is not laying down and going to sleep w/ us in the room very well. When we stayed at AKL last year there was a area right outside our room where we could sit in the hallway on a bench and wait for him to fall asleep. (Before I get flamed- We could still see the doorway and he was in a crib.) Then we would sneak back in after he was asleep and quietly watch TV.

Also, how long of a walk is it from the longhouses closest to the TTC to the GCH?
How about from the longhouses closest to the marina to the GCH or the TTC?

Thanks Poly experts!;)

I'm hoping it's partly false/partly true.

Partly false hopes = that the pool will remain open during the busy and HOT summer!

Partly true = that the refurb will happen (not that I'm a fan of hot tubs either ;)) but I know that many people are and it might be a nice addition to the resort.

I really can't see them shutting down a pool during the middle of summer. :confused3 Let's see how this rumor plays out...

Yeah, I have to say that I'd be stunned of they shut down the quiet pool during the hottest season, unless it was a real emergency. It just doesn't jive with how Disney does these things. I hope we'll get some sort of official confirmation or denial, because to be honest I might change resorts too if there's gonna be a lot of construction during my August stay, much as it pains me to say that.

And I've never missed having a hot tub at the Poly. They skeeve me out big time.

 Not all longhouses have the sitting area outside the elevator - the ones with a sitting area are: Tokelau, Tahiti and Rapa Nui. The sitting area can be quite far from the room though, but you could request a room very close to the elevator in one of those longhouses, then you'd be able to see the door to your room.

Some other longhouses have a deck with a table and a couple of chairs - some of these have become smoking area, but do not know every one of those for sure...and of course, would not be able to see the door unless it was the room right on the end - which you could also ask for at check-in. I'd suggest not doing on line check-in, but working with the CM to find a location that might work best.

The closest longhouses to TTC would be the ones above - it would be about a 5 minute walk to actually board the monorail and about the same distance to GCH. Add on a few minutes from the opposite end of the resort to TTC - with small children it could be a good 10 min walk, but it's a beautiful walk - either along pathways or mostly along the beach, then up a sidewalk between longhouses to the TTC walkway (this would be a bit longer walk).

Hope this helps, but am sure others will have helpful info as well. :thumbsup2

You could request a room with balcony that way you and dh could sit out there while your son goes to sleep

:thumbsup2 I was thinking that too, but then remembered that AKL rooms have a balcony, so maybe their little one cannot fall to sleep if he can see them?

Does anyone know if the Pina Colava has any type of food dye in it? I always see people rave about that drink on here but I believe it's white and red in color, which leads me to believe it might just have some type of coloring in it (unless they use berries to get the color). I only ask because I'm allergic to food dyes, but I'd love to be able to get something fruity to drink while I lounge out by the pool.

I would highly recommend posting this question on the disabilities board. There is a LOT of great information over there for folks with diffreent needs. I would also suggest sending an email to Brenda Bennet at WDW. She can help with special dietary needs. I don't remember the email address off hand but I believe it is posted on the disabilities board:thumbsup2

Also not a fan of hot tubs. They gross me out. I really like that Poly doesn't have a hot tub so that my kids aren't begging to go in. At the YC this past April, I was like a broken record..."NO, you cannot get into the hot tub. It is only for mommies and daddies. Don't ask me again"...but of course they kept asking:sad2:

I also like the quiet pool as-is. Why dumb it down and make it all shallow. Sigh....I would only be happy if they make it bigger;)

We've changed our reservations from a split stay to a week at the Poly!! Cannot wait to get there. I've not told our boys...my oldest is going to be so excited. I need to decide on which longhouse to request.

Who knew there were so many of us that don't like hot tubs?! They just gross me out!

I'd be really surprised if they start any pool refurbishment before mid-August. Seems like several things in the parks are being refurbished starting August 16th so that is my guess.

I am not a fan of community hot tubs either but on occasion, I will use one. It's my DH that really likes them and it's one of the things he likes when on vacation. That didn't stop him from emphatically voting for the Poly this September though :lmao:

This new quiet pool refurb rumor is very interesting and I'm hoping that anyone on this thread who gets anymore info will post it for everyone! I, like many others, enjoy the quiet pool because of the deeper end, seating availability, location to Tokelau, and as an additional pool at the Poly. I'm a bit worried that with September being a slower time, they might choose the time that I'm there to do the refurb but here's to hoping that they do this during the coldest months when they would have the least amount of swimmers.
