ALOHA! The Poly FAQ~ Spring 2010 Edition

I've been thinking about going to Poly to check it out during our stay the first week of December, since I've never been to the Poly at all-- we are staying at YC.

I've seen several mentions of watching Wishes from the beach at Poly--and it sounds perfect for our arrival (non-park) day, but ummm--are there chairs on the beach to sit on to watch Wishes? I don't do so well sitting on the ground these days.

Are there any other spots to watch Wishes at Poly that might be more forgiving for a middle aged woman with arthritic knees?

thanks

Lee

We just returned from our Poly stay....you should certainly watch Wishes from the beach area. We watched from our patio and they pipped the music in...was very magical!!! I bet you will fall in love with the Poly ;)

Heather:

My DIL loves the Ploy, and has told me that she is sure that I would love it too! I would like to stay there for one of our visits, but our visit in December is very quick and focused on Epcot so it made sense to stay at an Epcot resort.

Wishes on the beach does sound magical, and someday when we have a longer time to stay I want to try the Poly. But I feel fortunate that we can get a least some taste of the Poly on our next trip.

thanks

Lee

Crazy question...

What beer's are available on tap at the pool bar and the inside bar?

We just got back from POR and they had 3 different Abita beers on tap, which I assume is because Abita is a Louisiana brewery...

Anyhoo, trying to decide where to go for just my DH and me in Sept.(hard to pass up $218 a night) We don't drink non-domestic beer, unless it's a local brewery like Abita. No bud for us. lol. Just curious if we could get anything good at the Poly or if we'd have to bring out own.

Thanks!

I had a Blue Moon on tap from the Poly pool bar last week. I also remember them having Sam Adams Summer Ale. I think the rest were Bud, etc.

That's not a crazy question at all! DH and I would like to know this too.
Blue Moon and Sam Summer are ok, but I wonder what other beers there are at the Poly?

Can I add a question onto this as well? Does anyone have some recipes to share that you can make with the beverages/cordials available in Poly CL? Outside of rum we don't have any mixers in the house so will be flying by the seats of our pants with what's available in there. I would love some yummy suggestions!

I cant remember if they were on tap or all bottled, but there are 2 beers that I liked so much there, I get them @ home sometimes too.
Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale
Kona Longboard
They do have them both @ the pool bar and @ Tambu Lounge and @ the sushi bar

Hope that helps!:)

The Beers in the Club Level lounge are all in bottles and when I stayed in December 2007 I remember they had Budweiser, Bud Light, Heineken and maybe another brand. However I don't remember if the types of Beer they have has changed since then.

too bad you can't use snack credits for beer...

"kids... no more ice cream... Daddy needs a Sam Summer..."

I *think* they had Stella Artois as well in addition to Sam Adams.

The beds were very comfy the last time we were there in 2008. The monorail is wonderful and we also love all of the transportation options from the Poly-boat, bus, monorail, and having the TTC within walking distance is awesome!
Thanks! I'm not sure what TTC is, but I guess we'll like it if it is awesome. :)

We just returned from the Poly last Sunday and I will agree with SnowWhite33....beds were great!!! No backaches in the morning;)...as far as the monorail.....GREAT!!GREAT!!!GREAT!!! We had 2 strollers...so easy to just push them on and go....no folding up and carrying:thumbsup2. The only time we did fold up the strollers while on the monorail was one late night coming from EP. There were 100s of people trying to board (standing room only) DH thought it would be polite to fold up since our strollers were HUGE and took up lots of room. Other than that one time, we just pushed them on and never took the kids out. For our family, the convenience of the Poly was well worth the money.

Have a great trip!
Thank you for your post! I really need a good mattress or I will feel horrible all day. I have neck/shoulder injuries. Hoping to not wake up to a horrible neck ache. Sounds promising! Sounds like I will like the monorail. We have a pretty big stroller. It does fold up, but it would be nice not to have to fold it up. I'm hoping we can get back to the hotel easier being on the monorail. It would be nice to go and take a nap or a swim without losing hours and hours out of our day.

I had posted a couple of pages ago that we needed a one night stay at the Poly before a cruise in December and the rate was $500/night for a GV. Well the gods were smiling because we got a pin code for 40% in the mail yesterday! Not sure that we will stay at the Poly but it is good for all the resorts.

This is the 5th one that I have gotten this year. can you believe it?
Wow! You lucky duck! I have been hoping for one for 2 years.. lol.. been that long that I have been planning our trip that is finally happening in December! ;)

I think I am pretty sold on the Poly now. Thanks everyone! Will book on Monday. :yay::yay::yay:

Good morning everyone!

With my 40% pincode...

DH and I will be at the Poly eating tonga toast in 10 days, wahoo!! We will be celebrating our 20 year anniversary!:banana:

Now even though my DH has no problem leaving the kids for 4 days, I told them that I will just have to take them in Dec for a mommy and kids trip to see Christmas for the first time!:rotfl:

TTC is the Ticket and Transportation Center.
Thanks!

How fun! Lucky gal!

Hello everyone!
I am so thrilled to say I just booked my dream WDW vacation this morning...I finally get to stay at the Poly!!! I just couldn't resist another WDW get-away with the 40% off PIN I recieved. It will be a multi-generational girls-only trip as a surprise for my Mom's birthday.

This will be my first time at the Poly and I am traveling with my Mom and my 2 year old. Last year, the whole fam came & stayed @ CSR, which we loved, but my dream resort is the Poly, so I decided to pull the trigger.:cool1::woohoo::cool1:

Last year we put the Pack n' play behind the doors in the bathroom area at CSR so we were able close the doors for the baby to sleep/nap without bothering her.
I'm sure this has been asked already, but my tired eyes could not find it.
Any tips on where to put the PNP in a Poly room where she won't be bothered as much? Your thoughts/experiences will be much appreciated.
I booked just a Garden View room for November 14-18.

TIA!

Congrats on booking the trip! I don't think there's really a place in the Poly rooms where you can put it and close any doors. What we did when our kids napped (not in pack-n-plays, they were older) was get a 1st floor room and then sit out on the patio. DH and I could take turns going for a walk or to get a snack (and 2nd trip, taking DS with us) and go back/forth without disturbing the nappers. We sat out at night occassionally too, but usually so tired, we'd crash too!

Here's a link to Tikiman's site where he has the room layouts shown: http://www.tikimanpages.com/tiki/planning-quick/quick-what-are-the-rooms-like

Thanks you, that's great! I was hoping there would be something Hawaiian-y available!

We are here!! Checked in yesterday CL TPV got a fabulous 1st floor room! No problems with our room. The problem we had was checking In!! If you are CL do not do online check in! For some reason they were disorganized beyond comprehension! I missed walking into the Hawaii building sitting down and checking in! You really lose something when you do online check in! Other than that not a problem at all! I woke to watch the sun rise on the beach.

Anything you guys wanna know. Just ask I find out if I don't know!

Hooray! So cool to wake up to the sunrise on the beach! Enjoy every minute of it!
