ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

I have read a few posts stating when guests arrived and were staying CL the greeter at the podium gave them all there stuff and then sent them on their way to their room without a ride in the golf cart.

When we visited the Poly the girls were commenting how cool the golf cart was and wanted to know how to get a ride in it so I don't want to miss out on that for them.

If I do online check in and they give me the packet can I request a ride to the lounge or should I just skip it?

Thanks for any input.

I received an Email from Disney today about my upcoming vacation. On the bottom of the page, it stated Captain Cooks is open 6am - 11pm. I thought it was open 24hrs?? I dont really care, but on 10/23 the MK is open until 3am. I thought this might be a good spot to grab a drink or something on our way back to the room. If it closes at 11pm, Ill just grab a drink on my way out of MK.

Capt. Cook's is open 24 hours, the grill is only open 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. - which really stinks because a pulled pork sandwich could really hit the spot after evening magic hours that run into the wee hours of the morning.

Granted, I could always purchase one and put it in the room to enjoy upon my return from the parks... but I'm pretty sure the sandwich wouldn't make it to the room.

Sandwich? What sandwich? :rolleyes1

LOL! Thanks!

I would get a drink and bring it back to the room for later, but when Im on vacation I consume as much orange soda as possible..something I avoid at home! I used our mugs to get soda before our nights out last trip, but by the time we got back to the room, it tasted a bit flat. I like the full carbonation/sugar flavor! Nothing like planning when/where/what drink you are going to have weeks in advance. Only at Disney!:goodvibes

I love orange pop, so refreshing, reminds me of childhood! We are getting close! I have my shopping done, one more big work project tomorrow to do, then official, lay out the clothing and put it in the suitcase packing. I hope to have it done by Wednesday! We had a Luau today with the kids and our moms/grandmas to get ready, so much fun!:yay::yay::yay:

Just got back from a 3-Night stay at the Poly following the transatlantic Magic cruise. I loved every minute of it and esp. the convenience of the monorail. We didn't take a bus the entire time I was there ( went only to MK and Epcot this time around). We were in Raratonga this time after previously staying in what is now Tokelau and loved this location being right next to the GCH- we had a monorail view on the first floor (I have a service dog so this was great). Saw the electrical water parade one night from the beach and just relaxed with the gorgeous tropical ambience. We had the QSDP and enjoyed several ( ahem...several) of the pulled pork sandwiches at Captain Cooks. OMG they are delicious! I have a CL room booked for 2 nights at the Poly in mid-December before our DVC stay at AKL and can't wait to be back.---Kathy

So much to do, so little time! We leave Friday.

Quick question: Online check-in worth doing, or should we skip it? And, we want to add the hoppers to our tix; should we do this before we arrive or is it something we can do at the resort?

Thanks for the wealth of info on this thread...it has helped so much in our disney trip planning.

Aww... A luau! Im jealous. What a great idea. My kids had leftovers (and salad)! We are trying to empty the fridge.

After a year of ME planning, reserving, buying tickets for, etc.. my husband whips out his clothes in about 10 minutes and packed already! Then he looks at me and asks if I am going to ever pack. "Yes! Maybe Ill get to it as soon as I finish doing laundry, cleaning the house, cooking meals, driving the kids everywhere, shopping etc.. Now that youre done packing, why dont you go back to watching the football game. Halftime should be over by now":sad2:

:lmao: This SO sounds like my house here, except that I pack for me AND 3 kids!

We were not in CL and had done online checkin and were taken in a golf cart to our room. We pulled in, the bellboy help us unload the stuff from our car and put it in a wheeled carrier. I went inside and picked up our packet (took 2 minuets), then I went back outside and told the main bellboy at the podium that we now had our room and he assigned someone who loaded all the stuff into the cart and drove us to our room. I think the defining factor is if your room is already available when you check-in. If it is, they can drive you. If it's not ready yet, then they won't be able to drive you. Online check in helps facilitate that your room is ready when you arrive (it asks for your approximate arrival).

Just finished a four night stay in Rapa Nui. I'll post more later but wanted everyone know that the cabanas look awesome. They were open to view yesterday morning when I walked by although no one was in them yet. A young man from Recreation told me a few days ago that soft opening was to be yesterday. He said they were considering doing magical moments at first but he didn't know if a decision had been reached. The lounge chairs look exceptionally comfy.

Off to Epcot soon. The Polynesian is still magical. :wizard:

This is SO my house as well, I plan it, pack it (except DH stuff - yes, a total of 10 minutes of preparation here as well!), all in the middle of busy life with the 3 kids, but it's still worth it when he says YES, we can go again! Did you do online checkin?

Wow BCV, I didn't know you were there this past weekend. We just flew back Saturday night. We were at BC and didn't make it up to the Polynesian as planned. Sounds as if you are enjoying your stay and interesting news about the cabanas. That must have developed while I was gone. I had heard rumors, but saw no sign of them this past summer.

F&W was fantastic--hope you enjoy it as well! :yay:

Hi Everyone,

We had reservations at the WL for 3 nights after our Spring Break Cruise on the Dream. As nice as the WL looked, I really wanted to stay at the Poly. We live in the Pacific Northwest, so I want to feel like I am really on vacation and I was not sure the WL would do it for me:) I worked the numbers and was able to budget to move our ressie to the Poly:cheer2:

The best part is that this will be a surprise for my husband. My daughter and I are just going to program the gps when we leave for the cruise and see how long it takes him to figure it out.

It is going to be a long wait!

Hi there!! I just booked a totally last minute trip to Disney. We were there twice in 2009 and had a great time both times. I was a little on the fence about going back again, but DH convinced me. Our daughter, now almost 3, had such a great time last year- it sealed the deal! Additionally, we recently found out she is deathly allergic to nuts, and I know Disney is so good with children with food allergies! Less to worry about. Plus, we have a new baby and know there are lots of places to sit and rest/nurse/etc.

We are staying at the Polynesian again. The location, staff, rooms, pools- you can't beat it!! We loved it last year!! Can't wait- just 2 more weeks!

Now...to figure out how to get some dining reservations- that's about the only bad thing with a last minute trip!!
Hi there! I think you will be there the same time as us and we have an almost three year old as well!! (boy) I have found he best way to secure last minute reservations is to subscribe to the Oct 2010 Cancelled ADRs thread on the restaurants board.

possibly 10/24 Ohana's 625 pm if we do MNSSHP i would need your cell to pass that one along. We are waiting to see the the weather when we are down there.

They are all for 4 people.

Hi! We are going to the 10/24 party too!! We will be dressed as 3 ghostbusters and one little white ghost!

We are paid in full! My TA chatted with me on Facebook today asking if we wanted to go ahead and pay in full. We have 53 more days, but she likes, if possible, for people to pay a few days before the 45 day mark. Since we have all the money in our savings account to pay it, I said do ahead.
:banana::yay:

Did you do online checkin?

Yes. I cracked and did it today before the system goes down tomorrow. I was 50/50 over doing it. I thought if I did it when I got there, I might have more of a chance requesting the building I want, considering my KTTW would not be made. But...I read a post where a bellhop looked angry after hearing the person did not do online checkin! I also want to keep this vacation as much of a "go with the flow" as possible. Wherever I end up will be fine with me. Every other trip has been full blown 8 day commando mode. This time its 11 days at, hopefully, a slower pace. Yeah..who am I kidding ;) I already have a plan for a 2am orange soda stop! :rotfl2: I know, its an illness
