ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

attaching the yellow ME tags to the bags right now... I figure we will be waiting on line for Pirates this time tomorrow... :woohoo:

have fun, we catch our plane at 6:45 tomorrow. i cant wait i spent all day saying tomorrow at this time......

We're in the club level rooms. Where is the better place to watch the fireworks and boat parade? The lounge or out on the beach?

Last time we were in the GF and could see both from our balconies.

Can anyone tell me what time to pool bar opens? We arrive early in the morning and after breakfast at O'Hana we plan on chilling by the pool until our room is ready. And also, what is the best drink the pool bar serves and how much it costs? Thanks!

I believe it opens up at noon - that is my recolection of it... I might be wrong though...

Staying at the Poly in 11 days!!!

Quick question:

Last time we stayed there for only 4 days, and when we watched Wishes (one time so didn't get to explore again) from the beach there was no music that I could hear clearly. I did, however, faintly hear it in the distance. So either I have seen Wishes so many times that I can play it in my head or they do pipe the music in somewhere. Do they? Where? I was sitting on the beach more towards the pool area.

I am going to get a refillable mug as well. That part of Captain Cooks is open 24 hours correct? I know the grill is not open 24 hours.

so sorry for your loss :( Hopefully planning a Disney trip will lift your spirits. :grouphug:

BreezysMom- I am so sorry for your loss and will be praying for you and your family. I'm curious to know if your parents are from the Rockford/Roscoe area. The wife of a board member from our church was diagnosed with lung cancer and we lost her a couple weeks ago. I see you're from the western suburbs of Chicago, and the story is so similar that I'm wondering if I know them. Regardless, I'm so sorry you're facing such heartache right now and I hope a Disney trip will work out for you soon and bring you some joy.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I will pray for your family, I hope the rest of this year gets better, and that the Polynesian will help aid your sadness...:lovestruc

Breezy Im so sorry! Sending pixie dust for you and your family!

So sorry for your loss Breezysmom. . .how devastating. . .:sad2:

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

I'm sure "Poly Therapy" will be good for all! :goodvibes

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother. I went through something similar with my Mom. She passed away from ovarian cancer 3 months after being diagnosed back in 2007. We had been waiting to take DS(3) to WDW until he was older but we decided that life is too short to wait sometimes.

WDW, and the Poly specifically, has always been an important part of my family. We started visiting as kids and even took a big family vacation when we found out my father had cancer as well - he really enjoyed planning the trip for everyone. I hope that you can enjoy your trip Breezy's Mom and use the time away to celebrate your mother.

I am so very sorry for your loss!!!

My heart hurts to hear of your loss, BreezysMom. :sad1: May continuing waves of peace and comfort surround you and your family. ...and may you get a GREAT discount for some memorable Poly days of refreshing for the holidays! :flower3:

I am so very sorry for your loss. We went to Disney after caring for my dad for 10 long years. It is the best medicine!

Breezysmom My heart goes out to you during your time of mourning. I lost my own mother to breast cancer when she was 42 and I was only 12.... I will be praying for you.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom  My thoughts and prayers are with you.. and I really hope you all get your poly trip this winter
To Breezysmom - I am so sorry about your loss! Wishing you peace.

Thank you to everyone for your comments. I really appreciate it. :lovestruc

Sadly, even though I was up early on the computer and on the phone with Disney directly, I have not really been able to snag a discounted room during times that we are available/want to go. I have a feeling that they did not release a lot of inventory or something. While I prefer to stay club level, garden view I was not being too picky about the room category except for TPV club level which I refuse to pay for even with a discount :headache:

But I will keep trying to see if maybe they open some additional inventory. The lady at the call center kept trying to tell me that they had free dining rooms available but I tried to explain to her that 40% off rack rate at the Poly is by far a better financial option, especially since I want to stay club level and don't really want the dining plan...she kept saying, but "it's free meals". :rolleyes1

Happy planning everyone :wizard:

Well, we switched our free dining to the 40% off and saved about $800! I was waffling between upgrading to CL and paying the same for our package or keeping what we have and saving some money. The CM told me there were no available tpv rooms CL, so my decision was sort of made for me. The funny thing is I checked online and a tpv CL room is available online with the discount. I'm not sure what the deal is with that, but I'll just stick with saving the money.

As an aside, the CM was very nice and friendly. While talking with her, I told her we were celebrating our anniversary during our trip, but our actual anniversary is this Sunday. Come to find out, she and her dh will celebrate a week after us, and we're both celebrating 18 years. We had a fun chat about that. It was nice to get a CM who wasn't all business, especially after such a hectic day on the phones today that I'm sure she had.

Exactly 2 months until our trip...I'm so excited!

...we have ressies at Poly TPV in December--so I know that is either Tuvalu or Tahiti buildings--but I can't decide which. (Club level is out of our price range.)

We have never been to Poly before, and what is most important for this trip is the best possible view of the fireworks and castle. My elderly (82) SIL will be with us, and because of her age and health by the end of the day the only way she can see the fireworks will be from the balcony to our room.

I had originally picked Tahiti after reading Tikiman's site, but after trying to sort through the opinions here regarding Tuvalu v. Tahiti I am confused.

I know this has been the subject of (mostly) good humored debate, so, if the view for fireworks and castle is the most important factor, which in your opinion, is the better longhouse?

thanks

Lee

I am wondering about the views too - so far our only request is theme park view and 3rd floor. Which longhouses are an option for theme park view? When I looked at the tikiman site it only looked like Tahiti...but am I just confused? :confused3

I'm one of the Tahiti fans, we love this building as we don't find the walk from GCH to Tahiti that bad about 4 minutes, (its me my wife and a 8 and 11 yr old) and being so close to TTC a big plus add in the fact that there is no walking path in front of building (lagoon side) so noone is wandering by while you enjoy your view. The rooms are larger and the bathrooms have double sinks.

They're both great viewing locations, depending on what you're looking to experience. It's nice to sit in the comfort and air conditioning of the lounge, but it's also nice to be outside on the beach. You can hear the music well from either location.

We really enjoy watching from our balcony when in the Hawaii building. You can hear the music really well from the speakers that line the beach (at least this was true in September of last year).

When we were there in September of last year the music was very audible on the beach, over near the pool. We could actually hear it really well from our room too. There are speakers that line the walking path that they put the Wishes soundtrack through at showtime.

Can anyone tell me how much the internet access cost in the rooms? Or if there are areas where access is free? We are staying in a GV room and are just looking to upload pictures during our trip to folks back home a few times during our stay.

Oh that's good! Maybe they didn't have speakers when I was there? I will try it again this time!

We were there 2 weeks ago and, yes, you can hear the music loud and clear! The fireworks are absolutely beautiful from the Poly beach (but be careful of the bugs!!). You also get a fabulous view from O'hana (especially if you ask for a table with a castle view). They dim the lights and pipe the music in also.

Thank you logpeg. Have been on chemo for awhile now and tomorrow I start 6 weeks of radiation. I should be done by the end of Sept. That gives me all of Oct to get my strength back. I am so glad I switched to room only because I won't have to pay the rest until I get there and if needed I can cancel only 5 days out.

Good luck getting all your strength back and more, At least you have a disney trip to think about to help pass the time.

I think it was noon, and most of the drinks if not all besides beer or sodas were 8.50 each. My fav was a pina colava, YUM wish I had one now!!;)

$9.95 per 24 hr period. They charge your hotel bill. I don't believe it is free in lobby.

Good Morning my Poly peeps! We so need our vacation but time is moving soooo slow! LOL Then when we get there it will fly by! Kids started school yesterday DD has volleyball every day after school, DS has theater and work.. So it has begun!

Does anyone know if the bounceback has changed now that some discounts are offered for early 2011? I'm tempted to book our Jan trip today w/ the 40% off but am curious what the current BB is...
