ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

AWESOME PICS!! I just had a question about the bike rentals..we didn't get to do this last time at the Poly. All the research I did said that the bikes at the Poly only seat 4:confused3 Is this at the Poly? We are a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids 10-6-3) and I would LOVE to do this

There were spaces to fit 4 peddlers, and a few smaller spaces to fit kids in. We were offered the two person bike and told that my youngest could ride in the basket and that DS 7 could ride between us. I think if you get the 4 person one you will be fine!

and yes this was taken at the Poly Marina!

DH changed our ressie from CBR to Poly. I have always dreamed :cloud9: of staying here!!! I am hoping for a good code or the 4/3 deal since it's quite pricey compared to the CBR.

I am looking forward to doing all the restaurants in the Poly for both BF and dinner. We've done Ohana dinner but wanted to do BF at Kona and Ohana but travel time is a pain when you aren't on the monorail. Also looking forward to doing a few breakfasts at GF and CR without traveling super far. (Done CM's before)

Now we have to small kids and want to be closer to the monorail and pool and GCH. Which building should I request??

Anything special they do for birthday's??? We will be there for DD's 5th birthday and DS's 11th birthday. Their birthdays are only 5 days apart. They don't know yet though.:goodvibes

Thanks for the pics logpey! I really enjoyed looking at them, sitting in bed next to hubby he isn't feeling well and is already asleep!lol

I'm glad you enjoyed them, I hope your husband feels better soon, did my pics put him to sleep? HAHAHa:wizard:

Just back last night. Still working on finishing my live report and starting my dining report. Here are some photos from our "garden view" room, Samoa longhouse, room 3604:

These were taken from my phone. I have better ones from the camera, which I haven't been able to upload yet due to computer problems. IMO, this is the best "garden view" room in WDW! We could see most of the volcano pool, the firepit in 'Ohana, all of the GF, the wedding pavilion, part of the lagoon, and even a piece of the monorail track, plus lots of the beautiful gardens of the Poly. And you could not beat the location! We were steps away from the GCH, both pools, Captain Cook's, 2 mintues from the marina and monorail stop, 3-4 minutes from the bus stop and laundry, and 8 minutes from the TTC (that's from the door of room to the monorail loading platform). This room was a dream come true for our family! I felt like I was in heaven. When we were planning, I was kind of secretly wishing for a lagoon/tpv room, but I was SO THRILLED with this view, I would not have wanted to trade it, especially for the price!

We received towel sculptures every day. The first was the standard Mickey head on the bed. I seem to be missing one...will post later!

MAJOR props to GuitarRob for taking up the torch for the Poly FAQ threat! It looks awesome! :thumbsup2 And thanks to BreezysMom for all her hard work.

Sorry I've been MIA. I know I owe my trip report to give my perspective of a Poly Girl who finally stayed at the Grand Floridian but life intervened in a huge way. I got laid off from my job in February (I saw it coming a mile away) but we still went on our trip to the GF and visited the Poly as planned in June. All of the posts in the Poly thread really kept me going when I was bummed out so I wanted to say thanks. :goodvibes

Yes, I'll be posting my trip report sometime this week and I'll try to scramble out photos from our stays at the Poly for the thread. And yes, I did get another job which I start on Monday.

Great to see you checking in! Looking forward to your pics and congrats on the new job!

No Rob, it's all afternoon--noon until 4:00 p.m. or so, IIRC?

This must be new. When we were there last October while there were games on the beach we never heard loud music being played at the pool at all. While we weren't there every afternoon we did take the kids swimming about three times mid-late afternoon and there was never music. Maybe it's a summer thing :confused3 (she said with fingers crossed ...) I wouldn't mind for an hour maybe, but all afternoon is way too much. My kids are in a themed pool at WDW for heaven's sake. They don't need to be entertained on top of that!

I agree with this. I feel the same way about movies playing pool side, and I hope that the wiring that was going on at the volcano pool last week was not to add a movie screen! It would be nice if they had some activites further down the beach...somewhere near where the GF and Poly properties meet. That way, people would have the option to participate or avoid.

I have to say that while we were there last week, we did hear short periods of loud music that we would not have personally chosen...and then the music stopped and the games did not interfere in our enjoyment of the pool at all. It wasn't constant loud music for all hours of the afternoon.

You're welcome! Given the choice of this room or anywhere else, we would never stay anywhere else. :cloud9:

Logpey and Eeyeore, Thank you for posting such great pics! I'm getting so excited for our trip. I know I don't post much, but I read everything!

I do have to post once in a while so I can see my ticker ;)

I forgot to tell everyone that I bought a pair of Ray Ban Aviators at Bou-tiki, a few days later they dropped and I broke a lens, literally cracked in half. I started crying--really, I shed a tear over sunglasses..(expensive) I took them back to Bou-tiki to see if they sell extra lenses or another pair (only one pair left when I bought my first pair),I love them that much. When I told the sales clerk what happened, she pulled the box out of the glass case and gave me the last pair in the store and took my broken pair back, I said, don't I need to pay you or sign something, she said No, have a great day, I shed a few more tears this time out of sheer happiness, I couldn't believe this. Just giving you an example of their service.

Also we rented one sea raycer, and used a coupon for one free 30 minute rental my daughter won in the teen games at pool, So we enjoyed ourselves for 30 minutes and went to pay for one sea raycer and I said "all done how much?" They said "Its all good, everythings taken care off", I thought they charged my room key, No charge whatsoever, they let us have it for free, I wish they would have given us our room for free, haha.

Their service is undeniable from bellmen to mousekeeping to maintenance people, It's worth every penny..(well maybe it should be a few less pennies) Just a real nice experience overall..:thumbsup2 THX Poly, I will see you soon..

At night we could actually see the fire pit inside 'Ohana!

Looking straight ahead:

That is Fiji directly across the marina, and the end of Tuvalu to the right of Fiji.

A zoomed-in shot of the boat dock and GF (looking right):

I need a new ticker, too, Sara!

:goodvibes I just changed my resort to the Poly!!!:goodvibes
We've never stayed here before :) I can't wait! I requested the Tokelau longhouse with a high floor. I read on the Tikiman website this is a good one for first timers ;)
