I would not be able to make that choice. I love both! Unfortunately, all ADRs for 'Ohana are booked up when we're going to be there, so I don't have to make the choice. Kona it is. (Unless a CL concierge can get us in that is :) )

Aloha and good morning my friends! I have some terrifiic news! WIth all the uproar about the Poly pool and beach being for Poly guests only I emailed the IPO (since I had the email address) and couldnt get a straight answer from guest communications, only a form letter about their world reknown service.

Anyway Poly IPO stated and I quote(or paste)

"Aloha!

Thank you for contacting our office! Yes the pools and beach are for Polynesian guest only. We do require guests to show proof of staying at the Polynesian when the pools become over crowded or there are complaints.

Yes you can also decorate the room unless it damages the room or becomes a fire hazard. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with."

I asked about the room b/c I had a few ppl get pretty rude about their opinions on decorating doors, windows and rooms.

So there you have it straight from the horses mouth, the beach and pool or reserved for Poly guests!

To me it makes sense, why else would Poly guests pay the type of premium they do to NOT have that exclusive privilidge.

Thank you for posting this!

No upgrade, it was booked. A CM checking us in told us it was completely sold out and there was alot of people checking in - We were there early and I didn't want in the room, just my tickets to head to the parks.

Love the photos!!! Thank you for posting!

I think the Poly will be a great first impression for my DH who is a totally Disney virgin

Hope to see some of you Disers there!! Im hoping our local home depot here sells the lime green mickey heads so I can make myself known... :thumbsup2

I was, too, at least virtually. I had visited and stayed offsite for a few days when I was 9...I think 20 years in between visits counts! And believe me, the Poly made a tremendous impression on me. Hence our third visit in three years coming up next month...:rolleyes1

:cheer2: Congratulations!! DH & I will be there at the same time :banana: You will love the Poly, it is wonderful :cloud9:

For all those going to the Poly in September, come on over to the September Poly thread and be sure to post your photo and details - I am maintaining a list of folks and the pictures should help us identify each other:

Ohana :)

I've eaten at Kona more often and it is good (although I did have one bad meal there last time but it hasn't put me off totally) but Ohana is unique, fun, and so yummy! I like Ohana's atmosphere better too. But Kona is great!

HAHA I am bad with resortchangeritis :goodvibes I am happy to report I have had no itch to change from CL TPV at the Poly. Just keeping fingers crossed for an AP discount so I can add the dining plan. I will however not change from CL to a standard room. We are doing this trip right ;)

We will be there for 2 1/2 days without DH it is 3 generations of girls for our trip. My mom has been having many bad days without my dad, he is going to be gone 3 yrs Nov 1st. I am hoping the Poly warms her heart. He was there with us in March, in spirit. He told his girls "I will leave you pennies from heaven". We didnt use cash at all, only KTTW. On more than 1 occassion we returned to our villa (DVC points) and found pennies on the counters, night stand, in the bathrooms. It was heartwarming.

Now the change I did make to my trip was to not do any park touring while staying at Poly. (3 nights Poly 7 nights BLT are booked) We want to enjoy all the poly has to offer and being CL enjoy that as well before going to a do it all ourselves stay at BLT.

And another question about split stays. I have the Poly booked for Fri and we have BLT on points the same night. I want to follow the rules so on Friday I will ask CL CMs to add DH to the reservation because we would like him to experience the lounge. But DH and I will sleep at BLT with DM and my 2 girls at Poly. That is acceptable and the proper way to do it right? I know it isn't the best use of points/cash to book 2 rooms and have us listed on the same ressies but I didnt want to only have 2 nights at Poly and the night alone before DM leaves us would be fantastic.

My plan:
Wed we arrive at 2 pm and are going to head over to MK for MSEP.
Thur nothing planned and dinner at Cali Grill
Fri nothing planned, picking DH up at MCO. Family pics private session at Poly then QS dinner at BLT check out TOWL back to Poly for wishes EWP and beach lounging.
Sat Breakfast at Ohanas before heading to Cocoa Beach to drop DM off at DB's Back around 6 or 7 pm. CL lounge for wishes one last time.

Is this all ok?
We should be able to find plenty to do right?

Just curious (from your other thread) what you decided to do about your room category? Either way I look forward to hearing how it turned out and congratulations on your honeymoon!

Thanks so much!! Yes I guess an update is in order for that.... In the end we decided on keeping the GV CL room... DH felt like we would never otherwise stay in a CL room again (maybe even the Poly  depending on our finances in the next few years...children are next on the list after the honeymoon :rotfl:)

So we decided to bite the bullet and keep the GV CL with the regular dining plan. It is our honeymoon and DH says it should be special....and who am I to argue?? :lmao:

With that letter from the resort saying the pools/beaches are for Poly guest only, I have a question, how to do they check to make sure you are a Poly guest?

We just returned from the Poly on Monday and I never once saw them asking for a resort ID at the pool or beach (but of course I could have missed that), but I did take a look at my room keycard and it doesn't say anywhere on it that we were staying at the Polynesian. So do they have to scan the cards to find out which hotel you are staying at or is it on the card (your hotel name) and I just overlooked it? I'm super curious about that, it seems like it'd be hard to keep up with who is there from outside of the resort if the keycards aren't resort specific.

I did notice that the beach right by the pool got very crowded at night (for the EWP and fireworks) and cleared out almost instantly once that was over, so I guess there were a good number of outside guest enjoying the beach. I'm not really sure if that was a problem, at least not for me, but I understand it could be a problem during high traffic events (holidays).

Do you think the new chef once acclimated would adjust the menu some more to his specialties? I could understand keeping some of the signature items as any restaurant typically does when the head chef departs, but typically in the "real world" a new chef has a certain flair they bring in with them and introduce a few new items. Being Disney and all I'm not sure how much play they have, but I guess I'm wondering if the new guy will switch it up any at some point or if it just remains the same ol' regardless of who the head chef is.

I'm not sure. . .I know when Dick was there, he proposed menus and it was up to management to approve the changes. He put in place the menu that was posted by me last fall and reiterated in coopersmom's post. Chef Kim was working in concert with a young chef, Anthony, while we were there. The new Chef--and I forget his name--was there a night or two as well. The menu was to have been the same as posted here, but there were definitely omissions/substitutions as I outlined in my review.

If the new Chef is truly the "head" and not merely working under Chef Kim, I'm sure he will be able to add his own flair. If Chef Kim remains as the behind the scenes "head" of CL, then she would control the menu and who knows what she will do. I will say that Chef Kim did work under Chef Dick for a period of time.

Regardless of who is the "head chef", changes to the CL menus occur periodically and it wouldn't surprise me to see changes soon. The menu in current use (for the most part) is almost a year old now.

On Mouseplanet this was reported:
Construction update
Here is the listing of interesting items from paperwork filed with Orange County in the last week:
Disney’s Polynesian Resort – Volcano pool installation of outlet pedestal.
http://www.mouseplanet.com/9340/Walt_Disney_World_Resort_Update

I have no idea what the heck a "outlet pedestal" is, but it doesn't sound like anything we need to worry about! :thumbsup2

Thanks, this makes me feel a tad better:goodvibes I just know this will probably be our one and only chance to stay at my dream resort the POLY, so honestly for me it would be tragic if the Volcano Pool was down. out of our 5 days 2 are scheduled to just enjoy the resort and soak up the magic by the volcano pool. I added more days to our vacation, so I could truly immerse myself in all things POLY. So thanks so much:hug: for posting:thumbsup2

That would probably explain why the upper deck at the volcano pool is roped off, furniture removed, and area closed. It is probably being re-done or something done beneath it.

Yes, I've seen that as well. I can't imagine how they would take care of that unless they actually went around checking everyone on the beach. I have read in the past that yes, they can scan the card to see where you are staying.

We checked out of the Poly yesterday :( but are enjoying AKL tons now. Just an update about the digging going on between the volcano and Samoa...the workers told DH they are running electric and cable lines through there. No idea why.

please do not let this pool work effect us using the slide I swear I will have a hissy fit:lmao: I will cancel 2 of our days if this is true because not paying for a deluxe pool with no slide, I am glad it is a room only reservation.

So far it is only affecting one very small portion of the pool deck area, one that is off to the side. You would only notice it if you were a smoker or if you were staying in a room on that side or Samoa. It doesn't look like anything major at all and I'd bet that whatever it is will be finished by the time you come.

This sounds good, but if they are putting in cables...there is a chance that the whole thing has only just begun. KWIM? I am not high maitnence, by any means...I have been obsessing forever about my stay at POLY and I have learned not to have high expectations for the room, there may be pool hoppers, that things are a bit dated...I am o.k. with all of it, because I believe the ambiance will overcome that, the tiki torch paths at night, but most of all the Volcano pool and seeing wishes from the pool is the number one magical reason why the POLY has captured my imagination of magical moments with my family. KWIM?

Many of my dreams center around that volcano pool with my family having fun. I even purposely scheduled 2 complete days by the pool, with a back up itinerary of switching days to insure we will have this time by the pool on my dream trip to the POLY. I have been scrimping and saving for this trip, sacraficing and doing it all happily because I keep telling myself it will be worth it- I am going to get to stay at my dream resort. So now it is here and I am bit worried, because not many things could upset me, but if the volcano pool was down...this would do it. Yes, I would get over it, but I am pretty sure this will be my once chance to see this resort for a loooooooooong time.

So I hope I do not sound like I am whining, it is more like I am honestly worried. I know there are more important things in life and we will be in Disney. I will make the best of whatever happens, but boy will I be dissapointed if my fears come true. It is not often as a grown up that I have something of a dream that I really want and wish for...the POLY for me since I first saw it on the monorail as a kid was a dream that someday I would get to stay there...even my kids know that this is my dream resort.

I actually was reading a live report and showing them pictures of the pool and they were like "Wow how lucky are they to stay there" and secretly I was screaming inside "We are going to my dream resort, we will be in that pool"...ahhh well I think you have the picture, I am rambling to you guys, becuase I think you are the only ones who will get this. KWIM?

Well I feel a bit bettter, and I am just hoping this is a minor fix and none of my fears come true. Thanks for putting up with me:goodvibes

Eyeore, I completlet undertand what your saying.. I have wanted to stay at the Poly since I was 4 so my trip next month will be a dream come true for me. Since I booked Ive been obssessing like crazy planning every little detail including pool time as well BUT one thing Ive learned about WDW or any vacation.. It is what YOU make it. Nothing will ever be perfect (its still something I struggle with) Im trying so hard not to obsess over the small stuff right now, just b/c I know that I, myself will ruin my vacation by doing so.

From what I am seeing by pics ppl are posting and desciptions it doesnt sound like the work will affect the pool just the area right by the pool. I think everything will still be wonderful so go enjoy your family vacation and i cant wait to hear your report and see your pics!

Based on what the email said, it seems that if someone complained about the crowds maybe they would check. I have never seen them check at any time that we stayed there either

Fireworks question ... I've read your can watch Magic Kingdom fireworks at the Polynesian from the beach or club lounge, if you're staying club level, and the music is piped in at both places. Is this correct?

If you can see fireworks from your room/balcony is there any way to hear the music there? Like, on one of the Disney TV stations?

Just curious.

And I thought of two more questions about food ...

First, is the IPO said that the club lounge coffee is instant, which, for my hubby (I hate coffee) is a no go. (And, seriously, instant in the club lounge? That's just sad.) Can you get anywhere on property and is it a nightmare to get the brewed Kona coffee (no breakfast) to bring back to the room? And or, if there is a coffee maker in the room, is it a "pod" style unit (where it takes K-cups) or is it the little one-use drip brews that you could actually put a regular filter and coffee in and make it in-room?

Second is the Kona Sushi bar. Can you get take-out? As in take it back to your room to eat? And, if so, would you not need a Kona reservation for that?

Lastly, does the dining plan cover either the Kona sushi and/or can you use any of the credits to get a pot or cup of coffee at the coffee bar?

Thanks in advance for all those who know!

I was hoping someone can help me with routes and times

Ferry - Does it go Poly/MK/CR ? How long does it take to get to MK on the ferry? And if we were to come back from CR to Poly of the ferry is it about the same amount of time?

I understand we could wait for the boat to arrive but from leaving the dock to MK

and is this right for times on the monorail?

Poly-GF 4-5 minutes
Poly - MK 7-9 minutes
Poly - CR 10-11 ??

Thanks ....

No, it isn't a K-cups in the room a smaller drip maker which uses 2-4 cup filters. You can go to Kona Cafe for Kona coffee in the morning. Or buy some beans and have them ground them for you to make in your room. Then you can take the rest home. I am a coffee nut and although I can't handle the starbucks heavy stuff the Nescafe really wasn't totally disgusting. I have read you can get a shot of espresso add it to a cup of regular and you can make your own strong comparable to starbucks coffe. Kona Cafe is in the GCH and isn't a bad walk.

Second is the Kona Sushi bar. Can you get take-out? As in take it back to your room to eat? And, if so, would you not need a Kona reservation for that?
yes you can get it to go without a reservation

I am not sure about the sushi, I am sure if it was considered a snack option people would have posted that but they didnt. Cup of coffee at Kona Cafe is a snack credit

I answered you in the quote for the ones I know

Actually,

The "Ferry" goes between the TTC and the MK.

The "Launch" goes Poly -> MK -> GF

It takes about 15 minutes MK -> POLY 10 minutes POLY -> MK. Depending on load/unload times, number of passengers, etc...

Your monorail times look about right, although I've never timed it, again this is dependent on the amount of passengers, etc...

I hope you have a great trip!
