ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Hi everyone...no questions or anything, just wanted to see my ticker:)

Hello Everyone! I will be traveling to DW and the Poly for the first time in October! We are so excited! I am just wondering how to make a request for a longhouse. Some people have posted on here that you cannot make the request at online check in. But before we upgraded and were staying at CSR, many people made their room requests this way. How should this request be made? Thanks!!!:thumbsup2popcorn:::thumbsup2popcorn::

We loved Captain Cooks! Agree with Tinkerbellie16 that breakfast is the best quality and value. I highly recommend Tonga Toast with a side of bacon...I was able to share with my younger two kids and really stretch our CS meals! Try it out and form your own opinion. If it's not for you (personally I don't like the food at O'hana's for breakfast) - you can always grab CS breakfast at one of the parks. :wizard:

Thanks for both your opinions. Wish there were more options for CS breakfasts in the parks. Can snack credits be used just for ordering tonga toast?

Does anyone know how long the Spirit of Aloha show lasts? Also, is Luau Cove next to the beach where the Electrical Water Pageant is shown?

We went to an 8:00pm show last month and we missed the 10:00pm MK fireworks entirely. So I'd say it didn't get out until at least 10:10-10:15. It didn't start right at 8:00, either, but I don't remember when, exactly, as it took some time to seat everyone. It was a longer show than I expected. HTH

P.S. -Love the Pwincess Bwide.

I think if you look hard at menus and be a little creative (like incorporating a smoothie, frozen cappacino, fresh fruit) the options are pretty decent.

To answer your question, Tonga Toast is part of a CS meal and cannot be used for a snack credit.

Just stopping by to look at the ticker and do a happy dance!

:woohoo: This time next week we will have arrived at Orlando International and will be on our way to the Polynesian!

I had a story I wanted to share, because it's a small Poly world after all, even up here in Washington State.

I volunteered to coach my daughter's soccer team again this year, and when I went to our coach's meeting last night I discovered that I had an assistant coach this year as well. After the meeting we started talking and we looked at the schedule for the games. He told me that he wouldn't be there this day or this day. I said that was fine, I wouldn't be there that day or that day because we are going to Disney World. His eyes lit up and he said that on the days that he was gone, thats where he was going too. We started talking a little more about Disney and I told him that I had booked at the Poly, because I've been dreaming of it for 15 years since I saw it on my one and only Disney trip ever. Once again, his eyes lit up because they are staying at the Poly too! What a coincidence. Small world.

Just call Disney reservations and make your request. I did this and when they sent me my itinerary, it had my request so that made me feel better :goodvibes I've also made my request this way for all of my WDW and Poly trips.

I agree with minniebeth on being creative for breakfasts. In fact, we like really quick breakfasts so it doesn't push into our park time. Usually we take turns getting ready in the morning and eating breakfast so we are out the door with plenty of time to get to the parks! Here are some creative options - bring instant oatmeal & use hot water from the coffee maker (I bring original/no sugar and dried fruits and nuts), bring individual cereals and other quick serve items (granola bars, poptarts, etc). Then buy big things of milk, orange juice, and fruit from the gift shop/Capn Cooks. I also like to use snack credits for pastries (like from France in Epcot) the evening prior and we'll save the items for the next morning.

Just some suggestions!

Back in March I won a trip to WDW through Orbitz on Twitter and they are putting us up at the Polynesian! My DREAM resort!

Anyways, onto my question.

My husband and I are pescetarian (only seafood, no meat) but more often than not eat vegetarian. We usually stay at Pop Century which obviously has a much more expansive food court than Captain Cook's.

Can someone tell me about the options that Captain Cook's have available for vegetarians? Anyone know if they have a veggie burger patty available? The only thing I really have heard about is the grilled cheese sandwich.

Thanks all!

WOW, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! That's a heck of a win! :cool1:

I don't know much about vegetarian options at Captain Cook's, but this thread may help you out with the rest of WDW: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2473465&highlight=vegetarian

Have a great trip!

Check out Capn Cooks menu at allears at:

There is also a sushi bar open during dinner that will probably meet your dietary needs. Here is a link to their menu:

Captain Cook's also has a soup of the day. More often than not, it's a vegetarian soup. They have an awesome vegetarian chili and it's only a snack credit of you are on the DDP!

Good morning my Poly peeps! Wanted to bump us to first page again! LOL

So yesterday I went and bought my DH anniversary gift a gold watch that I packed into the cutest gift box i got at world market, its a gold chinese take out box that I taped a big curly bow to. I got a card and two bottles of champagne, one for the night we check into Best West DTD and sit on the porch watching Illuminations, figured that would be a nice start to our vacation and one for the night of our anniversary when I suprise him with the decorated room. All thats left is for me to finish up the packing, buy another memory card for camera, bottle of rum (YO HO) to go with the juice in the CL and for us both to get mani and pedis and we are ready! SO close!

Just back from a week at the Poly (August 15th - 22nd) followed by a 4 night Wonder cruise. We had a fantastic time. The weather was hot and we didn't get any real rain until the afternoon of the 21st. We really liked our first floor CL GV room in Hawaii. Our kids liked all of the ducks that came around to visit the patio. The lounge was great for breakfast, a quick snack or a drink. I didn't get a chance to read through all of the other pages so I don't know if it has been reported or not, but on August 19th or 20th there was a survey crew making measurements around the quiet pool. I asked them if they knew what the plans were for the pool. They said that their job was just to take measurements so that the management could figure out what they could do.:)

Good morning all - Wow, I was away for a few days and can't believe all the pages I have to catch up on lol - We certainly are a chatty bunch.

Welcome back! Thanks for posting about the East Pool. I love how even the survey crew is tight lipped :)

The flatbreads are very good and they will make them to-order, so you can ask for any combination of veggies that you want. Congrats on winning the trip! :)
