Let's see, where was I. oh yeah
PHIL....PHIL...WAKE UP...OPEN YOUR EYES PHIL
I am in recovery and surprisingly in little pain thanks to the epidural. After a couple of hours in recovery [main purpose of this unit is to insure that you don't fall asleep again] I am moved to a regular room. Shortly after my arrival on "The Floor" several people from my surgeon's staff show up to go over the surgery with me and DW. They first performed a wedge resection, taking a pie shaped piece of my lung containing the "thing that did not belong there" and sent it to pathology. Result came back malignent, so they proceed to remove the upper lobe of my left lung and a few lymph nodes. They feel really postive about the results of the sugery but need a final report from pathology in 3 to 5 days before they can give me a real prognosis. I'll skip the next few days except to say that the epidural was removed 72 hours after surgery and I suddenly found the pain.
The day before my discharge the pathologist's final report is in. The tumor was a squamous cell carcinoma in a very early stage, the lymph nodes are clean, prognosis is excellant [confirmed by an oncologist 2 weeks ago]. By the way it seemed that at least 1/3 of the hospital staff were Disney people but none of them knew about the DisBoards, so I clued them all in.
While I was in the hospital I decided that if all went well that DW & I would go to WDW on our 31st anniversary to celebrate.
So that is where things stand at this point. We will be arriving at POFQ about 1PM on 5/18 [our annivesary]. I'll post a very short predeparture part 3 on Tuesday afternoon before we leave for N.Y.
Reports on the trip itself should start appearing on 5/23 or 5/24.
