Almost done with Massage therapy after car accident... should I tip?

So, these are not spa treatments... in fact this massage therapist works at a chiropractic clinic.

I am also in physical therapy after this accident (two months ago) and wouldn't think to tip the PT...

But after 9 massages in the last 8 weeks, I am wondering if a gift or even cash would be appropriate at our last meeting next week?

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!

Is this something you've set up yourself? Or is it part of a medical treatment plan? That would make a difference to me. If the former, yes, tip. If the latter, no.

The massage therapy was prescribed (just like a medication) by my doctor...
My auto insurance is paying for it, but will then seek reimbusement from the "at fault" driver...

Then I wouldn't tip. But that's me. If you feel more comfortable tipping, it's up to you.

I would ask at the front desk if tips or gifts are even allowed to be accepted. If it's a medical practice, they may not allow it.

No. Do not tip. This is a medical provider. If for some reason your insurance doesn't pay you don't want any hint of impropriety even though your intentions are pure.

Auto insurance companies are absolutely EVIL. Even if they are acting friendly and like they are on your side and say they are going to pay; do not believe them. Get everything in writing! Document every phone call date, time, who called, nature of call, specifics. If you send something to them, do it via certified mail or even better yet, do via an on-line upload portal if they have one. Even better yet; make sure you consult an attorney if you haven't already. This doesn't mean you have to sue anyone, this is just a face to face to make sure that you understand the insurance laws in your state and to start a professional relationship with someone in the case that your insurance doesn't do what they say they will do.

I am a licensed massage therapist working in a chiropractor's office. I would not expect to be tipped.
You're very thoughtful to want to do the right thing. The best thing you can give your therapist is
to refer other clients if you've been pleased with their work.

If you want to do something nice, what about bagels, cookies, etc for the office?

You have all been so helpful!

As it turns out, I have a friend in a similar situation... likely needing Massage Therapy after a car accident, I will refer her to my MT.

Plus, I am pretty sure I need another 4-5 visits... based on my Physical Therapist's advice and my pain.

So, again, thanks for the information from all of my DISboards peeps!:thanks:
