Allowed or not allowed?

I just think its funny that there are 6 pages going on an on about this. Most people don't ask on a website whether or not they should bring their toaster - they just bring it. Whether Disney allows or doesn't - most people do what they want. For whatever reason some people on the Disboards love to villify the almight toaster as the potentially most dangerous kicthen appliance ever known to human kind and it simply shouldn't be left in the hands of people on vacation. Disney has never supplied them - my guess is mostly because of cost and lack of demand. I'm sure there is some risk manager somewhere crying themself to sleep at night, but much like the dreaded rent a room just for free dining and not stay in it debate - Disney doesn't really care.

I'm sure someone will come along right behind me to assure everyone that Disney does in fact care deeply and that they know someone who was evicted from their room because of a contraband toaster. I'm sure my ethical core or general morality wll be called to question, but I'm cool with it. Of course I'm writting this from my BCV studio with an old worn out Disney supplied toaster that burned my bagel yesterday and a microwave that sounds like its about to explode when the table turns.

There are HUNDREDS of contraband toasters sitting ominously in hotel rooms all over Disney property right this minute. Sitting there, plugged in - maybe not. Unattended. Thousands of crumbly food particles teasing the heating coils in defiant challenge of their capabilty to ignite. You can lose sleep over it and frown wholeheartedly on those people or go enjoy your own vacation.

The disboards does love a good toaster in the room argument :rotfl2:

LOVE this description of rogue toasters!

I just made toast in my beach club villa.

Yep. In a villa. Where Disney provides one and assumes any liability if something should go wrong. Which is different than what we were talking about. Which is bringing in your own toaster into a room without a kitchen area, for which Disney would not be liable if something bad happened.

As silly as you may think it, there is a difference.

Ahhh...but is the ethical concern eliminated because its Disney's toaster. I mean its still a hazardous timebomb with the potential to destroy vacations all around us. Is the real concern gone because Disney put the toaster in the room...big picture here people. It was left plugged in between DR's use and mine. We turned our back after we dropped the bread in to put the bacon in the microwave...

Toasters - the hidden/potential/possible/well it could happen danger lurking on your counter...

Anyone else craving toast.... ?
I think I'll use my flat iron to toast my bread since that seems to be a much safer appliance.:rotfl:

Doesn't matter whether it's safe or allowed or not; it'll be a frosty day before I lug a toaster to WDW.

Cheers,

Report your microwave and toaster problems to maintenance. Especially if you are a DVC member so that these problems aren't left for the next guest.

Someone asked on another thread how to heat up her baby's bottles. I suggested an electric bottle warmer, but I hope I didn't endanger an entire resort.

I have no idea how dangerous baby bottle warmers are, but I'm sure some Disers will know. ;)

Back in the olden days, we used to set the bottle in a cup/container of hot tap water. Enough to take the chill off the bottle. I guess new parents don't do that anymore??

Whoa! You live dangerously! You *are* in a Studio, but regular Disney resort rooms have grounded plugs, sprinkler systems and smoke alarms too in case an insane toaster should BLOW.

We will - just hadn't had a chance with Star Wars Weekends. Finally having some downtime today.

Answering the original question. I have to say, if you need to prepare food in the room, rent a room with a kitchen - a dvc room

Agreed! Our home burned to pipes and ashes last year, not from a toaster, but from a heater. However, after experiencing losing all our tangible possessions and our home, I would not feel comfortable with non-approved, personal kitchen appliances being used in hotels. I think it's a good rule even if it is overly cautious. You might be 100% sure that you'll use your appliance properly and unplug it when not attended, and you can be sure that your appliance doesn't have any faulty or exposed wiring, but you can't be sure about someone else's.

:sad1: I'm SO sorry for your loss. I hope everyone got out OK. I agree w/ you 100%. When the question was asked the FIRST thing popping into my mind w/o a second's passing was FIRE. It's a very serious matter. I would never EVER risk it, and think it irresponsible to risk other's lives as well. Hotel rooms are not meant to be kitchens.

Maybe toasters should be banned in homes also. I never knew toasters were so dangerous until reading this thread. You guys have made me see my toaster for what it really is. Thanks.

You have your choice. You can ban the toaster in your house. No rules, but yours. With Disney.. it's different.. There are rules/regulations and policies. Toasters are not dangerous, it depends on how you handle it and where it's used. :)

Oh good grief, if you burn your home down you affect you and your family, you burn down a hotel, hundreds of others are affected.

How in the world can the two possibly be the same.

I just hope all these toaster, grilling, people have really good insurance.:sad2:

I agree with you Sammie.

If your kitchen appliances catch on fire.. it's your house.. it's your home.. it's your family who will be affected. When you bring kitchen appliances to a regular hotel room, if something goes wrong and it catches on fire.. not only you and your family will get affected, but also other people who are staying there.
