what is the current status of kids being allowed in the teen club if they are turning 18 on the cruise (day 4 of 5 day cruise)? MS told me it was the age when they boarded the ship, but I thought some had posted that teens were NOT allowed in the teen club if they were turning 18 while cruising. Any ACTUAL reports of the policy firsthand? thanks, Elaine

Once one turns 18, he/she is no longer allowed in the teen club even if the 18th birthday occurs during the cruise. This rule is strictly enforced.

18 years olds USED to be allowed to stay in the Vibe if they were still in high school or were sailing the summer immediately after graduation, which may explain the mixed messages you're getting. However, the last few years, possibly due to an incident onboard, once the 18th birthday has arrived the Vibe privileges are immediately taken away, even if the birthday happens during the cruise. They even issue a whole new KTTW card.

It's sad but true, no one in Vibe after they turn 18 even on a cruise. We had planned to take a cruise the summer after our DS graduated but not now that he can't attend Vibe. Vibe is a big reason we cruise Disney as in our DS's opinion, no other cruise line's teen club comes close to the experience in Vibe. Makes me a bit angry that one incident ruined it for the rest of us.

How do you know it was one incident? Many there were many. Even if it was only one, if it were your child hurt by an older child (who is legally an adult) you'd be angry. A 'child' can legally stay in high school until 21 years, so it makes sense that they have a firm cut off date of 18th birthday and they don't have to decide that Bobby at 18.3 years can't enter the club but Billy at 18.7 months can.

There was one major incident that made Disney decide to enforce the age limit policy. It was discussed here quite a bit. I'm not saying that Disney is wrong for enforcing their policy, it make me sad that it came to this as our DS would have liked to enjoy Vibe one last time before going to college. There could have been several incidents, I don't know, but there was one that caused the change.

What is there to do for an 18 year old? I would assume not much to nothing ad wouldn't they be prevented from going to the clubs serving alcohol? Seems like if you have children you have to go before they are 18 or wIt until after 21.

Am I wrong?

I'm 34 and I don't spend my entire cruise drinking. One cruise I was pregnant and couldn't drink at all. There's plenty to do other than drink in the clubs at night, that same as all the other adults on the ship.

An 18 year old can go in any of the adult venues onboard, even the bars. They just can't order alcohol. There is also the 18*21 Club. They meet up the first night of the cruise with a DCL CM facilitator to meet everyone and work out a plan of what they would be interested in doing during the cruise. The group can be kind of small or even non-existent, depending on how many are interested in it.

Our DS went when he was just turned 19. His group was about 15 people (the cruise was the week before Christmas). They usually would go to the adult show in the Pub and then hang out. They would meet up most days and do stuff - go to the movies, have breakfast or lunch with the officers. The participated in the carved veggie car races. Went swimming at 3 am. We basically only saw him at dinner and most of the evening shows. They were also able to get some of the board games from Vibe (well, the CM got them) and then they could play them. And had several sessions of Wii games.

Thanks. It seems that that age group would be a smaller number, but it seems like he would have plenty to do.

yes it is, on our FANTASY cruise there were only 4 in that category and frankly they were bored stiff. I wish something would be planned for the 18 to 21 yr olds so they would feel part of the 'gang.' Most aren't interested in adult dining ie. Palo,Remy but are looking for an activity to participate in. Yes it is a hole in the cruises that should be addressed.

An 18 yr old can order alcohol if they're on a Med cruise as we have a lower age limit here in Europe. The parent/guardian has to sign a waiver for it regardless of where the family are from .. We did it for my nephew a couple of years ago .. He was 19 I think.
