Allow me to tell you about today's "friendly" pirates - a giant misnomer

With my usual pirate partners busy with family today, I have spent the last 30 minutes trying to join a pirate game - any capture pirate game.

I have been booted from 14 games with the following said:
"Sorry, friends game."
"Playing friendly."
"Friendly only."
and the list goes on and on.

If that's a friendly VMK, I would hate to see a rude VMK.

In busy lobbies, full enough that no further ships can land there, groups of 7 sit with games open waiting for a game to leave so their remaining person can enter. Well, that's not going to happen until they leave because the lobby is full. Why sit with a ship of 7 people in a full lobby and call me the rude 1 when I join your game that is shutting down the dock?

Friendly pirates.... hmmm.... perhaps rude pirates is the more appropriate.

Going on 38 minutes, 1 game played.

Please, think of others while you are playing "Exclusionary Pirates."

aye, we be needing a play now feature for potc like we do with checkers

Yes its anything but "friendly" pirates.
I was booted from so many games today I got a permanent footprint on my rear.
Just today alone the excuses were...
You not rich enough
Sorry friends only
No way you beat me once
OR
You get in a game, the person starts so fast your shoes are left on the dock and you cant pick your ship
yoho a pirates life for me

This is actually quite a good suggestion. This would enable all those peeps that are just looking to join up into a game, get in without so much frustration.

There is nothing rude about ppl who have their own group they play with. Our group has a "formula" (so-to-speak) in the way we play and we do this for hours on end for friendly capture. If the shoe was on the other foot and it was your little group playing, would you consider yourself rude for booting others? Just a thought. ;)

Telling ppl they are not rich enough or you cannot play bc you beat them is a bit absurd, but not allowing ppl into your own group for friendly is not.

Consider that those ppl may think you will quit if you are not winning or perhaps once you get your credits you will not join again for the other team to win. I can easily see the other side of it as well.

I have actually written VMK about this very concept.

Are you telling me that you and your usual group doesn't boot anyone when you want to be sure it's "friendly pirates" only? I see absolutely nothing wrong with what happened.

I'd rather play with people who know the ground rules than to play with random people who verbally abuse me in the game because they are poor sports.

I would have thought you realized that many people prefer to play this way. :confused3

(But to be fair, sometimes I'll play in a group of friends where we play as a one-sided team with random people joining the other side, when the game is not "friendly" rules.)

If you have a group of 8 friendly players, you should split up into 2 teams of 4 and play. It goes much quicker and fewer wait times in lobbies.

I see nothing wrong with the following situation. I think I would do the same thing also if I perferred playing with friends. There are no rules against booting or playing "exclusive friend" games. VMK gave us options and we have the right to use them.

There are always going to be things that don't always go the way you personally like it. You must deal with those things the right way and complaining with get you nowhere 99.99% of the time. There are other solutions and options to take- think about it and if you want to play that much then do it.

I totally agree. Bet they already had teams decided and were just waiting on a player to join. If the group is decided upon, I would also have to boot as well. While it would be nice to explain each time you boot, it would get tiring and I would think people understand especially on a high credit making day.

For me, "friendly pirates" means I am playing with FRIENDS. I don't feel bad in the least about booting all others. Takes less than a second to hit the "start new game" button and get your own game going so why I should I be made to feel guilty about it...

Look, I am going to stick up for my friend on this one. I think what she means is that she doesn't like that she is just booted right off without politeness. I have played with Jegrezo before "in our little group". She hardly ever boots, only when a player is being rude or saying mean things. She politely asks the player to join another game or tells them nicely that she is playing with her friends. They usually get the idea, without having to be rudely booted.

The simple solution......start your own game. ;) Then you can start you own game of "Exclusionary Pirates." :rotfl:

I do not explain in pirates or in Mansion, I just boot. Not being rude, just prefer to play with the people I set out to play with. What is rude is when a person joins the game AGAIN after they have been booted.

Agreed.

I also think that people should pay attention to someone when they say "FRIENDLY ONLY"

It annoys me when they keep joining after you boot them

I don't always take the time to explain myself when I boot someone from my games. Most often than not, they don't pay attention anyway. When lobbies are full and games fill fast, I spend most of my time booting the same people over and over again, why should I have to explain that it's a friend's only game for every boot? It's easier for them to jump into another game or lobby than it is for me to ask them to find another game. I don't think it's rude to boot.

Ok - I don't post much at all anymore, but you are all missing the point. If you are playing friendly and have a set "plan" or "system" - fine. However, don't start the game until all of your players are present and try to go to an empty lobby so you don't completely stop all other games from starting. I believe Jegrezo understands the concept of playing friendly, and understands that there are set teams, but when those games are sitting on the screen in a full lobby, with 7 of your players present, it should not heve been started. If no other games can leave - your other player cannot enter. Find an empty lobby. Make sure all of your players are present before beginning the game. And try not to be rude about it, that's all she was asking.

Sometimes booting is necessary during a "friendly" game, but I agree that a lobby that is not crowded should be chosen. We always pick a "captain". The captain is the person we follow. The captain finds an empty or not crowded lobby. However, on double credits day, that is sometimes impossible.

We understand her point but you have to see there are always two sides to this issue. I have been there and started a game with my people present but sometimes they may go afk all of a sudden, especially since we know alot of us are parents and things happen. So a game maybe started and a player may have a delay.
