We arrived home today after two weeks of the most awe-inspiring holiday of our lifes!!
All I can say is WOW!! Every day a new adventure... every day as amazing as the day before!!

The attention to detail was outstanding..... I can't wait to start planning for next year!!

That post made me smile :goodvibes

So glad you've all had an amazing time, I just love Disney/Florida and the magic it gives to people.

That has always been the reaction we get when ever we take anyone over with us who have never been.
So fully understand where you are coming from, have fun planning that next trip.

I have to ask where you stayed. Your post has me intrigued!

We stayed at the Beach Club for both weeks and we were on the deluxe DDP.

The Beach Club was lovely, but we ate a lot at the Captains Grille in the Yacht Club. It was a little quieter there for breakfast as the Cape May has a Character dining breakfast.... which is fine once or twice but not every day.... we got indigestion with all the getting up and down for food and photos (it was a buffet too).

We did so much that I will probably attempt a trip report or this post will go on FOREVER!!!!:laughing:

Ok, so here goes............................

the cast.........me, DH, DD(9) and DS(10)

venue...WDW Beach Club, Deluxe DDP

date... 13th (Friday??!!??) August til 27th August 2010.

As a quick background... my DH and I both run our own businesses and find it difficult to find two weeks when we are together at the same time... so this was our first two week holiday since our homeymoon, 13 years ago!!

Our daughter has Coeliac Disease (a wheat and gluten allergy) and none of us like the huge roller coasters.

I like to plan and DH likes to be spontaneous, so I have compromised my planning to coincide with his spontanaeity!!! I hope it works out!! ;)

Is that enough background?? I am sure I will add any more important details later.

We stayed at the Hilton hotel at Gatwick airport the night before and used the twilight check-in..... we asked about upgrades to PE seats and decided against spending another £900 towards our holiday... and that we would use that money towards other spending opportunities while we were away. :sad2: For those that are interseted... the chef at the Hilton was very helpful at dinner and again at breakfast, in fact he made my daughter feel special :lovestruc(he even made her her own dessert)... he also provided her with a smoked salmon salad to take on the plane (as VA hadn't booked her GF meal, which is a whole other saga).

The flight was only delayed by an hour (not too bad, from what I hear) and we finally arrived at Orlando at about 4.30pm.

The only thing we had a problem with was that we didn't know about yellow ME tags for the luggage, so we lugged it all upstairs to the coach ourselves. No hardship (except that DH is waiting for a shoulder operation so carrying any weight is agony for him).

The kids were sooooo excited by then, :yay: even after such a long flight and the little things (a countdown by the driver as we went under the WDW entrance sign) were a great start.

Easy peasy check in at the hotel..... and 168 meal vouchers!!!!!!

So the first thing we did was explore the hotel and find somewhere to eat.

Captains Grille at the Yacht Club had a very short wait with no ADR, so we went there. DD was so tired that she couldn't eat, so no meal credit used for her then!!..... how are we going to use them all up ??

We all fell into bed that evening, armed with the breakfast ressies and the plan for MK the next day.

MORE!! MORE!!!

I got all tingly with excitement reading your post. I think you did well to save your £900 on the PE upgrades. It adds up when you have a full family. What were they quoting? Was it about £225 per person? I know that kids pay the same as adults for upgrades.

I would love to hear more about the Beach Club. :listen:

So glad to hear you had a fantastic time, and really looking forward to hearing more about it:thumbsup2

The Beach Club and Yacht Club are joined together, but appear quite different. The Beach Club seemed brighter, lighter and airier with white wooden furniture, brightly coloured cushions and brighter lighting. Whereas the Yacht Club seemed darker and more sombre in appearance, with unpainted dark wooden furniture and lower lighting. And strangely... quieter!

The Beach Club rooms were as expected... quite old fashioned in decor, again with white painted wooden furniture. We had two queen sized beds, one for us and one for the children. We overlooked a small beach volleyball area and could see the marina from our balcony. It was too hot and humid to spend any time outside though, so spent most of the time with the doors shut and the aircon on.

The Beach Club Marketplace sold anything you could think of... from food and drink to trinkets and clothing to toiletries and washing powder. Apparently the Yacht Club was much smaller and not so varied (although I didn't look !!)

There were little child size chairs infront of a small tv near the Cape May Cafe, with (obviously) Disney cartoons/films playing all day to keep the children occupied while parents were dealing with concierge or booking in or just waiting for dinner tables.

Outside the Beach Club Villas was a quiet small pool (no lifeguard)

where the laundry room was, so when we ran out of clothes my husband took the kids for a swim while I popped in and out to the dryers, etc.

The Stormalong Bay pool area was magnificent!!! We had to show our room keys to gain entrance before 5pm which meant that there was no entry to anyone not staying at either the Beach Club or Yacht Club. The sign I read said that there was a maximum of 1200 people allowed in the pool at any time. 1200!!!! It was huge!! The areas were very well attended by lifeguards, who bumped each other often, which meant that they were not getting complacent watching. It gave me peace of mind that if I took my eyes off the kids for a second that someone would always be watching.

There was a mini whirlpool area,

WDW5172.jpg

three (very hot) jacuzzi's, a lazy river, a huge water slide from a marooned pirate ship,

WDW5177.jpg

a shallow baby pool and baby slide,a shallow sandy beach pool with an area to build sandcastles, a volleyball and other water games area,

WDW5175.jpg

a raised sunbathing deck

WDW5171.jpg

and sunbeds for everyone.
It was spotless!! The only minor problem was the slide... the kids said that you could feel the ridges where the joins were and lying down was a bit bumpy....didn't stop them though!!

The Beach and Yacht Clubs overlook the Crescent Lake and face on to the Boardwalk directly.

WDW5116.jpg

There is a small marina where you can pick up boat transportation to DHS, Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin and Epcot, although it is quicker to just walk to Epcot and enter through the International Gateway.

There is also a beach area at the lakeside where there are swing seats and each evening a campfire where you can make smores and watch a Disney movie on a huge blow up cinema screen on the sand!! Everyone drags over sunbeds and lounges around watching Bolt or A Bugs Life.

There are several places to eat at the Yacht and Beach Clubs. Yachtsmans Steakhouse (2 credits), Cape May Cafe (TS, Character breakfast and seafood buffet at dinner), Captains Grille (TS, open all day), Beaches and Cream (access outside infront of the pool), Hurricane Hanna's (QS outside next to the pool), Marketplace (QS and shopping).

We used the Captains Grille alot, as it had great service and great steak!!
We hardly had to wait when we went without a booking... most times we went straight in... even though we had been told that they were full and could not book. They said 'no-shows' were common and to just keep turning up and they would be sure to be able to accomodate us.
The Cape May was much busier and usually required a bit of a wait... but we preferred the food at the Captains Grille anyway, so that was handy!!
;)

It was about £225 per person and we decided that we ouldn't have spent that much on the total flight cost when we originally booked, so we wouldn't bother. We asked if there was any leeway on the cost (ie; whether the next day or last minute it would be cheaper... they said no!!)
Kids were the same price and we decided that we could put that money to better use while we were away.

Agreed. :thumbsup2 I upgraded last year for a special offer of £150 per person each way - but there are only 2 of us. Had there been four of us, now way! This year they wanted in excess of £1200 for the 2 of us both ways. No, not for the entire flight cost .... that was the extra charge for a PE upgrade. I figured at that price I would call them back and see if we were hitting UC turf with those prices and wondered if that would be an option. By that stage, a couple of hours later, there were no PE seats left on the inbound. They wanted £1800 for a UC upgrade for us just on the return leg. So all in all, had I taken those (I couldn't afford it anyway) it would have cost us in the region of £4200 to fly PE one way and UC back :scared1: That was more than the flight/ticket/accommodation/dining package cost for 2 weeks. No thanks.

The £900 was for outbound only.... there were no upgrades available for the return journey anyway.
We did get a quote for an upgrade for UC a few weeks before we went... it was £15,000 .... no, thats not a typo!!! That was for both directions.... who has that sort of money??? Is UC empty???? Needless to say we didnt upgrade then either!! :rotfl::rotfl: We only paid £2,800 for four of us as economy seats....which we didn't think was bad at the time of booking!!

Our first full day we went to the Captains Grille at the YC for breakfast...Mega Berry smoothies were a hit with the kids. It is a buffet or a la carte so something for everyone.

The chef came out at the beginning and introduced himself to my DD... he made her very own gluten free Mickey waffles!! How sweet!! She loved them... they were just like the normal version!!

We then walked through Epcot International Gateway and made our way to the entrance, where we got some very strange looks as we exited to the monorail station. We rode the monorail to the transportation centre, then the ferry across the lake to Magic Kingdom.

The first thing we saw was the castle...

WDW20101032.jpg

....what a magical experience!! We then spent a while having pictures taken with the photopass guys.

The first few attractions were Swiss Family Treehouse, Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean. The Enchanted Tiki Room was a waste of 20 minutes of my life!! :bored: So if you are short of time... this is one to skip!!

Move it, Shake It, Celebrate It, was a great street party and a glimpse of what Disney do best!!

WDW20101020.jpg

The costumes were excellent and the cast were obviously there for our entertainment. We spent the whole day walking around with smiles on our faces!!!!

WDW20101029.jpg

We went back to our hotel pool for a swim before going back to MK for our ADR at Crystal Palace.

WDW20101217.jpg

I have always said that I believe the attention to detail would be what will astound me at WDW and I was right... its the little things.
When we were called to our table 'Winnie the Pooh and friends have a table ready for.....' Aaahh!! The kids thought that was great!!

A big THANK YOU to those of you who suggested autograph books.... my DH thought I was a loon by buying them in the first place I saw them... but by the end of the first couple of days seeing how much pleasure the kids got collecting autographs, he agreed it wasn't so obsessive after all!!

WDW20101091.jpg

WDW20101083.jpg

We found a spot for the Electrical Parade... which was fabulous... all those programmes I saw as a kid with the parades all lit up.... I was living some childhood dreams!!!!!!!!!

WDW20101116.jpg

WDW20101138.jpg

We stayed to watch the Summer Nightastic Fireworks (it was the last night).....did I mention how absolutely packed it was in the evening??????

Wow!!! And again... wow!! Disney sure know how to put on a fireworks display!! Eat your heart out Legoland (and I thought Legoland had it sussed for fireworks!!!)
