Alligators Visit the Parks Too!

Wow, wouldn't expect that. I say alligators are always dangerous, does FL want more alligator attacks? But yeah, not "everything is a robot" as was said in the Roseanne episode

Here in FL we live with them. I see people water skiing in lakes with big gators, canoeing and kayaking in water with them. (I will not. I'm way to chicken!) My husband and son fish in ponds with 13+ feet gators. Only once did we ever had a problem with a gator. We were fishing and it went after the catch.

We see them often at Saratoga Springs. It would be very easy for one to come on land and terrorize the resort there.

We had one sunning itself on a rock next to Splash Mountain a few years ago. Animal control was outside the attraction watching him carefully. They said for the most part they leave them alone until they reach a certain size. They've had to remove a number of them due to guests feeding, specifically around the Turkey Leg Stand. They get in through the sewage system.

I think they are all over the property. There are certain laws about moving them. I don't think they can move them unless they are a certain length or if they are aggressive.

I actually remember being fooled by a snake in WDW when I was a kid. I was on Tom Sawyer's island and saw one sunning himself by the side of the path. I was amazed how realistic that snake looked so I reached down to touch him and he slithered away. After a brief heart attack, I chuckled about it, told a cast member, and went on playing.

Yikes! I've seen snakes several times around there. I can deal with the gators but the snakes freak me out!

On a previous stay at CSR I seen one of them in the lake.

I've seen a gator at CSR too. There's so much wildlife there to see. It's a gorgeous resort.

The trick is: don't look like food.

Here's a picture I took about 3 week ago of the little guy. This was on the wooden bridge as well in Frontier Land

Fact: Alligators are in every fresh-water pond/river/lake/whatever in Florida.
Fact: It's impossible to keep them out.
Fact: Alligators hunt small mammals/fish/birds/reptiles and would never attack a human....well maybe not "never" but definitely "rarely".

There are over one bazillion alligators in Florida. If they were hunting humans you'd hear about alligator attacks constantly. As long as you don't look like a bunny or squirrel the gators will leave you alone.

It is my understanding that gators are pretty docile and non-aggressive. As long as some idiot doesn't go antagonizing it they are pretty harmless. I've never noticed one, but I'd love to see one. They are cool animals!

We saw him in September! Some CMs stopped to look at him too. They told us his name is Charlie and he'll be moved once he's bigger.

We also saw a couple gators at CSR at the same trip. It was pretty exciting for me - I've been looking for gators at Disney since I was 3...took me 30 years, but I've finally seen some! My friends who live in FL were with us - they didn't understand my excitement at all. :)

They are everywhere. At Shades of green, there is one at the main pond by the lobby. They had to put up a sign saying "don't feed the gators" b/c people do it! Once gators get fed by humans, they lose their fear and start approaching people for a "hand out"! Don't feed them cause they become nuisance. It's also illegal. If you want a great place to see AND feed gators, go to Gatorland.

Now snakes on Tom Sawyers - that place is crawling with them! Ick! Especially the tunnels. Indiana Jones would hate it!

Also, feeding them makes them lose their fear of people. Which then makes them a nuisance.

The Alligator Farm in St. Augustine is another great place to see gators and crocodiles. You can feed them there too and watch feeding demonstrations along with other demonstrations. The keepers go in with the gators for some demonstrations.

It's not that far from WDW, just a couple hours if traffic cooperates.

Hmm. We didn't see a gator our trip a few weeks ago, but my daughter did save a ringneck snake that was sunning itself on a walkway at Epcot near Test Track. Picked it up and put it back in the bushes.

From the CM's we know at Magic, there are apparently three alligators that hang around that area of the park. See at least one every time we visit. Forgot the females name off the top of my head.

EDIT: Text a CM buddy and the female's name is Ernestein (spelling)
