No they want to concrete over Fl. Gators are part of our ecosystem and were here long before the migration to Fl from the North. So I'm guessing you're not a member of PETA.

I'm a 15-year vegetarian and animal rights activist. I donate to the ASPCA, not PETA. and i hate alligators. They're the worst! Except for Louis, of course. So I'm guessing you're not a member of PETA.
Doubt it. And again... Very easy to move along... I do it all the time when a topic gets to me for whatever reason. Easy. And doesn't involve insulting others or being nasty.I'm just saying what most people are thinking.![]()

Years ago, I was told at DL CM orientation that we don't have signs for everything. If there were signs for everything, the whole place would be covered in signs. But yes, I suppose if my attorney tells me I should put up a sign in this case, I put up a sign in this case. I'd rather have people on Disboards upset about the sign than to be accused of not informing the public in light of recent events.
My post was a bit tongue in cheek but I find it interesting that someone would advocate for animal's rights and wish extinction on an entire order of animals.
That's fine. Just making a point.Years ago, I was told at DL CM orientation that we don't have signs for everything. If there were signs for everything, the whole place would be covered in signs. Either they want to signs to stand out, or this is a temporary solution because it takes much longer for an artist to create hundreds of signs themed to the various places on property. Either way, they couldn't wait that long.
Agree. If they really were a threat to people, there would be a much bigger issue that would require more drastic action. In reality, we hope that the next 40+ years will have fewer alligator incidents than the last 40+ years.
Yep... but I guess if there was no outrage, then there wouldn't be much to talk about on Disboards.
Due to complaints years ago from ADA rights groups (pregnancy is considered a medical condition), all of the signs in the U.S. parks have been changed to "should not ride" instead of "may not ride." A pregnant person has the legal right to insist on riding.
Yeah... I don't like mockingbirds but it's our state bird and I learn to live with them. I know gators are a part of life here and respect them.Yeah, it's a complicated feeling. I don't wish them any specific harm, it's more like I wish they just never existed.
Look at it another way. Perhaps if they had been proactive about warning people about the possible dangers presented by the presence of Alligators, there might not have been a GrandFlo tragedy. Most people don't think about where they are. In a swamp in Florida. Because there are so many people around the gators do not usually stay close to the people, however, the feeding of them is probably the reason that anyone was in harms way. It doesn't hurt to be reminded that the possibility of encounters is indeed real and always has been. It's just that this is the first time a fatality has happened.http://wdwnt.com/blog/2016/07/photo...igator-warning-signs-inside-theme-park-areas/
Now even inside the Magic Kingdom we will be reminded of the GrandFlo tragedy. How many years will have to pass before we forget why they erected these signs?
Good luck with that. There are millions of Alligators in Florida. Most of the time they mind their own business and don't bother anyone. Do you have any idea how they would go about removing the entire ecosystem? Maybe move WDW to Minnesota? They were there first. The only way that it would work is if every single one of them were killed, and even that wouldn't work for long.We were staying at the gf when this happened. It was upsetting to say the least. Seeing the gators around the park afterwards didn't feel right to us. A sweet little boy lost his life. I think the signs, fences and removal of the Gators(if this is actually happening) is appropriate.

BUT,since Disney didn't respond in any way to the 1986 incident,I'm thinking they feel like they HAVE to respond this time in a big way.Okay, well, TWO incidents in 40+ years does not change the percentages that much. I still don't feel like the alligators are a threat to me inside Magic Kingdom.
The water parade goes by the Grand Floridian. Enough said.
Think again. In south Louisiana, people water ski in fresh water lakes all the time and it is not uncommon to hit a "bump" that turns out to be an alligator. While not an everyday occurrence, it does happen.
Gators can occupy any body of water anywhere in WDW including the parks so I would say the warning signs inside MK are absolutely necessary.
I agree. Unfortunately, many people seem to have the idea that when they are in WDW they are actually in some type of other wordly bubble in which nothing can go wrong and if it does, it must be WDW's fault. As another PP pointed out, I also find it shocking that they actually have to tell people NOT to feed wildlife. WDW is not a petting zoo. And, yes, that goes for the birds, squirrels, etc. too. It's not good for them and it's not good for us. They will most likely have to keep the signs as they are so they don't blend into the environment. With all of the responses after the tragedy that people weren't even aware there were gators in Florida, I'm sure if they themed these to Frontierland or Tom's Sawyer's island, people would think they were just part of the scenery and not take them seriously.
I honestly don't get the outrage at the sign? It won't make anyone's trip less "magical."
"Common sense" is NOT so common...you think it's bad in a Disney park, the Big Apple is 10xtimes worse.
I don't want to get into that whole debate again, but the signs clearly serve multiple purposes.
-- Some didn't know there were gators in those waters. Now with the signs they do.
-- Now CMs have signs to point to about feeding gators -- maybe that will help them enforce rules not to do so -- give them a tool.
I hope Disney gets strict about enforcement. Eject people who feed them.
And just because a sign won't keep EVERYONE from doing something, obviously doesn't mean we should have no signs
Wow Disney just can't win! When it happened there was uproar about no signs warning specifically about alligators and now that there are signs everyone is angry because it is over the top and a reminder of a tragedy. Can't please everyone or sometime anyone!
