Alligator at 7 sea lagoon

:earseek: Those pics are too cool! I wish we would have seen some when we were there. All we saw were some ducks, rabbits and a couple of armadillos.

I wonder if alligators are the real reason there hasn't been swimming at Ft. Wilderness and why River Country has closed. Wasn't the water in River Country fed from the lake? Anybody know?

Last year when we were at the Poly I was very disappointed that DD couldn't swim in the lake because when I was a kid, and stayed at the Poly, you could swim in the lake. A retired man overheard us talking and said that he is a cast member and said that alligators have been found in the water and a certain type of bacteria that will make people sick. He said that this isn't for public knowledge (so why did he tell us) and for us to not tell to many people (oh well, I will share this with all of you).

Ever since then, I believed that this is why River Country is closed even though it has never been confirmed. Afterall, why else would they close this, I was there as a child a couple of times, and it was a great waterpark.

When we were at the Poly I still let DD get some lake water at the edge of the beach to make sandcastles, not thinking there was much harm in this. But after seeing these pictures I will think twice this year when we are at the Poly again. So....thanks for showing the photos - you may have saved some people from getting hurt.

*****I still love WDW though****even with the alligators

no, don't want to go swimming there. I'll just stay in the nice pools

When we were there on our honeymoon (almost 13 years ago:earseek: ) we saw a small alligator near the boat dock near MGM, where the boat from the BW area drops you off. It was only about 1-1 1/2 feet long though, and the next day it was gone. We were talking to a CM and he said that they catch them and relocate them to water that is not near guest areas.

Last week, my DS9 was telling some kids who were swimming at the beach at the Poly about the alligators who live in the lake there. The kids said there weren't any alligators in the lake. I hope they get a glimpse of these pictures. What a sight!

Last year, we rode the front of the monorail to the MK. The monorail driver pointed out an alligator trap set up underneath the monorail line between the GF & MK. The driver told us that after the alligator get to be a certain size, they attempt to catch them and then relocate them.

Oh, great now I am going to have nightmares about this. And I will make sure I stay out of that water! ::yes::

That's really cool! I really want to see an alligator in the wild, at a safe distance of course. This year we are staying at Emerald Island Resort and our house backs up to a wildlife refuge, maybe......

While in South Carolina at a pond/little lake where people would routinely dip their feet or sit on the water's edge to fish, I saw a huge alligator run out of the water, grab a cat and take it back under the water. It was terrifying. Don't ever let your little ones wade in the ponds or lakes in the south.

We saw a gator in the water near Aunt Polly's in the MK on May 24th. He looked to be about 3ft. I mentioned it to some of the custodial CM's and they said 3 others had already been taken out. :earseek:

Great photos! You know what strikes me the most about it? I wonder if people have been feeding him or just throwing some kind of food in the water because it is fairly unusual for a gator to come out in the middle of the water and that close to where people are, not to mention the ferries coming in and out in the middle of the day! They usually stay in the outskirts and sun and sleep in the daytime and come out at night. I now think of places I swam as a teen and I shudder! :earseek:

Great pictures!! We've tried so hard to see an alligator, from our very first trip to FL in '93. Drove across Alligator Alley and down to Key West - nearly got sick from scanning the roadsides looking for 'gators!:headache: Never saw any during our two visits to Louisiana, either. We must not be looking in the right places, huh?!

Everybody says the cm's tell them they will be relocated. I've watched a couple of Discovery specials, and the "alligator wranglers" claimed they always kill the 'gators they take out of populated areas, even if they say they're gonna relocate. Anybody know for sure? That seems like a real shame.:(

Most of WDW's alligators are relocated to WDW wildlife reserve that is off property nearby. They usually dont move them until they hit about 4ft
