Thurs June 26th. I cant believe we have been here a week already and that we go home next week I also cant believe we have only done two parks so far!! My itinerary is crumpled up & discarded now, as DS is limiting our plans!!.....I dont mind this at all, as they are only babies for such a short time, its important to keep him contented and happy too. I know there are going to be A LOT more family trips to WDW in the future, so who cares what we miss on this one! DD seems to be having a ball, so we are doing something right!
Today is another day where plans have to change. The original plan was for Animal Kingdom, but due to last nights late finish, no one is up before 9am! I wanted us on the Safari at 9!! Oh well, plan B....we cant do MGM as it is an EMH day, so Epcot wins. We intend to take a slow day and do what we can. DD wants to finish her mask at the World Showcase, but other than that, no firm ideas.
We get to the park around 11am and it is VERY hot. We want to do Leave A Legacy, but decide to Leave It Today (haha) as its too hot to wait in line. The desicion is made to rent DD a stroller as she wont last long as my pleasant, amiable girl in this heat...rather in the fashion of the Hulk (think "you wouldnt like me when Im hot & bothered) she changes into a bit of a monster, which I could do without today.
DD is thrilled at the stroller and climbs in enthusiastically.....she doesnt emerge for most of the day! The heat is melting us so we rush into the nearest Innoventions entrance for some welcome coooool! DD plays on the computers for awhile and then we think about lunch. We are opposite The Land, so I suggest the Garden Grill . That seems to suit, so I go in and see if we can get a table...we can! They can seat us immediately, but DS is sleeping and we cant bring the stroller in. DH carries him to the table where he continues to sleep on DHs chest (everyone now, aaahhhh).
Our server is Sam, who explains that the meal is an "all you can eat family style platter". Sounds good to us, so Sam disappears to bring the food. We didnt tell DD that this was a character meal, we just waited till she saw them....priceless! First on the scene were Chip n Dale....DD squeals with delight at this as she loves them both! I do a bit of impressive chipmonk signing to ascertain which is which (Chip has the black nose, Dale the brown one!). As usual, this pair are so much fun and things liven up even more when Pluto appears. Things get a little boisterous and Chip & Dale move off to the next table. Pluto licks DS all over (he woke up at the chipmonk fest!) and in return DS takes a large bite of Plutos tongue (Im sure he thinks the characters are giant teethers). Pluto isnt bothered one bit and gathers them both up for a great photo!
Mickey arrives soon after dressed in Farmer gear, which is cute. DS has a lunge at Mickeys nose, and manages to clamp down for a few seconds.....eeek. I have visions of Farmer Mickey leaving our table noseless. More great pics to be had as Minnie follows right behind Mickey, also in Farmer gear.
The food HAS arrived amidst the character greets. There are warm bread rolls to start and the platter itself consists of chicken, catfish, flank steak and the most wonderful stuffing. There are sides of mashed potatoes and gravy and veggies. It is pretty tasty and we order more steak and LOTS more stuffing. DD has her own small platter of mac cheese and chicken tenders. Dessert is also included and it is a peach cobbler for the grown ups and Worms n dirt for DD (choc ice cream and jelly worms!). The cobbler isnt that great, but we still enjoy the meal. Its good value at $74 for all of us. I would rate it an 8/10. The food maybe only 7/10 but the character interaction deserved another point!
After this DD wants to do Figment again, so we all ride. I want to take mum on Honey I shrunk the audience....DD remembers this is the "scary show" and refuses to get out of the stroller. DH waits in the shade with both strollers. Mum really enjoys the Honey I shrunk... show. She is glad Jessie didnt see it as the snake had mum hiding HER eyes! She loved the dog sneeze at the end......also my fave part!
We meet up with DH and kids and oh is it HOT today. We are almost thinking of leaving it is that bad. We decide to stay longer though and head to Ice Station Cool. DS and I get snowed on as I walk the stroller through the ice cave which is WONDERFUL!! We have fun trying all the drinks. I like the watermelon one...yummy.
After this we start to head over towards the World Showcase, moving rapidly past the water fountain play area....I think weve made it....until..... a little voice pipes up from the depths of the stroller " can I play in those mummy?". Darn it, she saw them. Well, its SO hot I cant say no and she is off and soaked to the bone within 5 seconds.
DS is asleep, so I find shade with him whilst DH "supervises" DD in the fountains. Rather co-incidently, the nearest shady spot is right by the DVC stand. Its only polite to talk to the person here isnt it?? Turns out she is from England so we have lots to talk about..of course she does steer the conversation back to DVC after a little while! She asks whether I know about it..I do. Whether I am interested..I am! We looked into DVC on our wedding trip, but all our money was tied up buying a house, so it wasnt to be then. I did wonder whether DH might now be interested. He did like the Beach Club a lot, remember?? Nice DVC lady asks if we would like to look round the Open House?? I decide I had better consult the Powers That Be before committing to this. Mum swaps with DH who I immediately give my biggest winning smile and say "Darling, you look worn out, come and sit down"...his response..."How much is this going to cost me then?". The cynic.
He does surprise me though and asks allsorts of questions about DVC and agrees to look round the open house without a fight! He sounds quite keen and I am grinning like the cheshire cat! We are booked in and given some pamphlets to read.
Time to rescue DD from the fountains and she is drenched! I have spare clothes but no towel, so I buy one from the nearest store and get DD dressed under it! The character bus arrives, but DD is too soggy to do any meets!
The heat isnt giving up and we decide to pass on the World Showcase for today. DS needs a feed and change, so do a pitstop at the babycare center. We decide to take a slow stroll back towards the exit, the sun is too strong and we are going home. DH wants to look round the cars at the exit to Test Track so we do that. Whilst inside, I realise it is prime Mission: Space riding time. I tell everyone to wait here for me as I have to check it out. If there is a chance we might ride, then Im gonna take it!
I immediately notice that the huge planets outside the ride are spinning this afternoon....thats a good sign. There is also a small crowd and large amounts of CMs roaming around. I collar a nearby CM and begin my interrogation...he is cagey at first, but I manage to prise out of him that the ride almost certainly will be opening sometime "soon". Ooh..cool! I rush back to collect DH and ask mum if she minds waiting with the kidlets whilst we try to get on the ride. She says OK, but not to be too long because of the heat. We find her a shady spot where she can lay out DDs new towel on some grass for them to play on. Its right opposite Mission Space so she can see our progress.
