Sat June 21st. Baby has a bad night. I rented a travel crib from the villa management company, and DS doesnt like it one bit (even though it is identical to my travel crib at home). He wakes 3-4 times and I am like a zombie in the morning! We have to get an early start as it is the day of Cinderellas Royal Table breakfast. Amazingly we are all loaded into the car by 7.30am. Weather Channel reports it will be dull, overcast and rainy all day, so I pack ponchos not suncream and hats (bad move).
As we drive into the Magic Kingdom car park, I am stunned to find out we are on the FRONT ROW of the car park.....this has NEVER happened before! DD, however is totally gutted that she doesnt get to ride on the trolley bus and is only distracted by an impending ride on the monorail! Unfortunately, front of the monorail is taken, so we ride normally. MK is still one hour from opening but the TTC is pretty crowded. We get through security...they miss the cooler and bag under the stroller...and make ourselves known to the man with the clipboard. He finds my name and we are let in. I love this part, just a shame its such a dull morning today. Looking on the bright side though, it wasnt raining and DD went running up Main Street to catch her first glimpse of The Castle! Even in the gloom it doesnt disappoint and brings huge smiles to all our faces. We have our photo taken as a family and look out for Mickey and Minnie who, last year were waiting right at the end of Main St. Sadly, maybe due to the weather, they didnt appear this time. We soak up a bit of the atmosphere......there is NOTHING like a nearly empty Magic Kingdom to send tingles of excitement through me.
Its getting close to our PS time, so we make our way to the podium. We are shown into the lobby area which is quite busy. There is no Fairy Godmother yet, so a lot of the children are getting photos sitting in her chair. Last year, DD had a "thing" about the Fairy Godmother, where she was scared to pieces of her. I was hoping this year, she would have her photo done with her. It wasnt to be, and as soon as the sweet old dear appeared, DD hid behind mum and refused to budge. I dont know why she does this! Anyway, undeterred, I scoop up DS and line up to get at least ONE of the kids in a photo with F.G!! I wasnt sure how he was going to react as this would be his first "character".....I neednt have worried. DS LOVES Fairy Godmother and gazes lovingly into her eyes without even dribbling on her shiny cloak. She too is smitten, and actually asks to hold him. I hand him over and she spends ages playing with him. DS is lapping this up and doesnt want to leave her! Mum persuades DD to give F.G a small wave from the safety of her seat, and in return she writes a nice little message in her autograph book.
We have quite a wait before ANY royal families are called and its well past nine when we are told to make our way upstairs. We have a window seat this time which is nice, and we can look out on the carousel and monitor the crowds....which dont seem too bad yet! Also, the sun has begun to shine and its looking HOT out there! Our server brings over juice and milk for DD. Needless to say, none of us opt for the "healthy" option and we all go for the full works. As we settle into the breakfast we all notice one glaring omission....no Princesses....anywhere! DD doesnt seem bothered and wants to know if Captain Hook is coming instead. DH notices what might be Mary Poppins emerging from a distant door, but none of the main ones are about yet. At least this gives us a chance to eat some food without interruptions, but after 20 mins and still no maidens, I am getting concerned!! Finally, like buses, all the Princesses appear at once....Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Belle and Mary Poppins. There are a lot of happy little girls and relieved parents now! DS has started to become grumpy, having played "throw the french toast as far as possible" for 15 mins, he is now bored. Enter Cinderella to sort him out (I breathe in relief that she doesnt slide unmajestically on the remnants of his scattered toast). Cinders enthralls DS even more than Fairy Godmother had....she recriprocates and plants a huge kiss on his forehead leaving a lipstick imprint (think Snow White & Dopey!). DS makes a grab for Cinders bosom and she retreats hastily to sign DDs autograph book. I notice DH sending approving glances to his son.
We have a backlog of Princesses lining up at our table now. DS isnt quite so keen on Belle & Snow White, but approves heartily of Sleeping Beauty (obviously prefers blondes). DD doesnt seem as enchanted as last year and keeps asking where the Wicked Queen is, and whether she eats breakfast as well. I cant believe she has grown out of the Princesses already...at 3. I was hoping for a few more years at least!! We finish with Mary Poppins who is quite jolly. We all enjoyed the breakfast here, especially the cheesey hash browns and "normal" sausages! We do feel a little rushed and the Princesses didnt spend QUITE as long with DD as last time, so that knocked the score down to 8/10 compared to last years 9/10.
