I may have asked this before, but I can't remember, and it's getting to be time to think about dining at WDW.
My dd, and two of her friends are traveling to WDW this June, for their graduation gift. One of the girls has life threatening food allergies. She is going off to college and her parents feel it's okay to let her head to WDW at this point...she had a very near death experience last spring which showed her exactly how serious her issues are.
She can't eat much the normal person can....Coke Zero (the only soda she can drink), bacon, sweet potatoes, white steamed rice....these are a few of the things she can eat. Absolutely no eggs, dairy, nuts, etc.
So, I want to book Akershus for them for breakfast. BUT...need to know the best way to get advance info regarding getting food this poor girl can eat. IS there a number to call or do you just call the restuarant directly??
The girls are staying at BWV in a studio...that way they can have food brought in through a delivery service and eat a lot in their room, but it would be nice to have one princess meal...they are huge Ariel, Snow While and Belle fans.
Thanks a ton guys.

I know that if you go over to the DisAbilities board either Sue M. or one of the other regulars will be able to give you the number to call for Special Diets at Disney.

DUH....yep, that woiuld be a good thought. Thanks.

I too recommend going to the DISabilities page. Additionally, on there you should find contact info for a special dining area at Disney. Essentially you email them and if a person in your party has certain serious conditions or something like 4 or more major food allergies- they have a special form for you to fill out. They will then send the info on to the chefs at the various restaurants where you will be dining so they can have safe food ready ahead of time. DD5 is peanut and tree nut allergic and I am shellfish-bivalve specific allergic and Disney did a WONDERFUL job at keeping us safe. I also have a friend who qualified for special meals...places like 'Ohana bent over backwards to get her safe and tasty meals for all of her needs.

Here is the email address i was given when trying to plan ADR's, and restaurants to visit with my DGD who has Celiac. Hope it helps. they were able to email me a huge amount of information based on Gluten free meals specifically. Good Luck, I'm sure that they will be able to help with your friends situation.

I agree, check the DisABILITIES board and get the contact information for Special Diets. This young woman is apparently going to need entirely separate meals prepared for her and Special Diets needs to be notified. And as it appears you are not going on this trip yourself, you should probably make sure all the information is given to someone who is actually going to be there.

As an FYI, when making ADRs online, the information about special diets comes right up during the process. So just in case all the email addresses, etc, given to you here are forgotten, if she makes a reservation online, the info would be right there for her to see. Including a checklist for allergies (though it sounds like she would go above and beyond those...but it's probably good to check off anyway). They are very helpful!

I've found Disney to be fantastic at catering to those with food allergies. My grandmother and aunt accompanied DD and I on our trip in October, both of them have severe shellfish allergies. When I made our ADRs online I checked off their allergies and was pleasantly surprised to see that a chef made his/her way to our table at each restaurant to inquire about the allergy and my grandmother's and aunt's food preferences.
