Hi
We love the allergy free mickey waffles and was wondering if anyone had a list of where they are available or where you have actually received them.

We know they are available at chef mickeys and ohanas. Anywhere else?

Thanks

I'm curious what the ingredients are/what they are excluding (which ever way is easiest to answer that!) We have egg, soy, dairy, corn, carrot, blueberry, peanut and almond allergies in our crew.

Poor kiddos!

When I had them in December they were free of all of that I think...not entirely sure about the corn but I think they were corn free.... I am allergic to:
Peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, shellfish, wheat, oats, coconut, soy, dairy, sesame, sunflower seeds, bananas, cherries, broccoli, honey, and ginger

I plan to enjoy these waffles every morning in June just like I did in December!

Here are all the places we've had Mickey waffles. I know they're available at a lot more places than this but this is where we've gotten them. We don't do a lot of breakfasts so that's why the list of where we've gotten them is so small. I'm actually surprised it's this small now that I'm typing it out but as I said, it makes sense since we don't go to a lot of TS breakfasts and though we get a lot of Mickey waffles, it's typically at the same places over and over because we know we like these places.

'Ohana
Polynesian room service (they use the Kona kitchen I believe; we were offered them at Kona as well but chose other stuff)
1900 Park Fare
Cape May Cafe
Captain's Grille
Tusker House
SSR food court
CBR food court
POFQ food court
AoA food court
Pop food court

There are 2 different brands of mixes used at the restaurants. Some use Bob's Red Mill, some use Namaste and some use a mixture of the two. If I remember correctly, Namaste is free of those though I'd check to be sure. I believe Bob's Red Mill has corn but again, look it up to be sure. Once you know which of these mixes is safe you can contact the Special Diets department to find out which restaurants use which mixes.

For an egg substitute, some places use Ener-G's egg replaces (I believe it has corn) while others use apple sauce. This is another thing to ask Special Diets about.

For a milk alternative, some places use apple juice, some places use rice milk (most carry Pacific brand if you want to research it) and I think some may use water. Yet another thing to ask Special Diets about.

Special Diets wouldn't give us any specifics when we called after they started changing products. So we cancelled our trip and haven't been back.

Their policy was changed to just marking it on your reservation and then speaking with the chef and hoping they could accommodate you. (Which I know Disney is typically very good with, but it made us very nervous because we have one child that is allergic to all those things I listed.)

Are they back to giving specifics again?

We also do not have breakfast at TS very often, but I would add the Grand Floridian Cafe. I may be misremembering but I think we have ordered them at Captain Cook's (Poly) also. I have also heard that Kouzzina's offers them. DD12 is allergic to egg, dairy, tree nuts and peanuts and has never had a problem getting the waffles where they offer them, but I hope someone with soy or corn (and the others on your list) allergies can chime in with more information.

GAGirlInVA, I am also disappointed that special diets does not offer the help that they did before, but we haven't noticed much difference in dealing with DD12's allergies while there since the change. We are lucky that DD12 has top8 allergies and doesn't care much for desert and likes relatively plain food. I still get the best and most up to date information via my Disboard addiction.

Yeah, it is disappointing. When we went the first time, our son only had soy, milk, and egg allergies. Then we went through a whole big thing where he stopped growing completely and then stopped eating/drinking. Then got c. difficile, etc. And the number of allergens either had increased before that or did soon after. It's tough. 2 children's hospitals in two states later, and he is growing again. But we have to be very careful with his diet. He just turned 4. :)

DH was most appalled when we spoke to someone in management and they said that the reason they don't give out ingredients anymore because each chef is given the power to alter anything. That really made DH nervous. Soooooo we've found our fun other ways, for now. The increased prices have just helped with that!

When you ask Special Diets, they'll generally (after you ask several times) put you in touch with a chef who can answer questions about products at specific locations.

There was a period of time where Special Diets wouldn't tell you anything and we also were among those who considered cancelling trips (I had 2 booked at the time). They've gone back to giving some product information though not as much as they used to. They'll now list brands of allergy products by dining location for each allergen. So if you ask for the gluten free reference sheet then you can do a search on specific brands to see which dining locations they show up under. It's not 100% but it's a good start.

Kouzzina had waffles. I think they were the Namaste, and they did charge extra for them (vs. a kid's meal price, one morning it was like $10 for a kid's meal waffle)

GAGirlinVA - The other thing that seems to be a bit different from before is they will give you specific information but not until right before the trip. They have put the chefs at the restaurants in charge of ordering so they can switch brands, add or take things away at any time. The "list" of items for each allergen is updated based on what they ordered not what they will order in the future... so if your trip is next week and you get a list today that list may be last weeks order. You know what they are likely to have sitting around in the cupboard but it's not a promise that they will stock it.
That seems to be why special diets doesn't really give out so much info anymore.
If you check off all of the allergens available when you make the reservation and get the special diets form (which you fill out with specifics such as ADR's) we've gotten a couple calls but for the most part the chefs knew we were coming. Some had prepared desserts or gotten things in advance.
Our counter service experiences have not been so great, but with TS we have had a lot of luck. DS is essentially top 8 free, but also won't eat carrots or blueberries and on our last trip over 2 weeks had maybe 3 meals that had corn in it. I think you would be surprised at how much they will accommodate your son.

Ooooo that is good to hear. I'm glad to hear that maybe some kinks have been worked out. :) We are toying with a 2014 trip... maybe if I update DH, he will feel comfortable again. :)

Did you happen to do a trip/dining report?

I started to do a report, but got sad that trip was over and it just sort of faded out.
Most places it worked out by asked for a type of meat or fish (the only major allergen he doesn't have) cooked in a pan with oil and seasonings. Then we would pick some veggies they had, sometimes a rice noodle. They seem to have a lot of ingredients, so unlike most places you end up could just make something without putting the corn in it in the first place. If your son eats fruit they usually have some fruit around too... my boys won't eat raw fruit.
We generally were offered the crunchy enjoy life cookies which my son can't have (buckwheat) and rice dream. Does rice dream have corn in it? I didn't think of that one.

We were rarely offered the crunchy enjoy life cookies. I was primarily offered the soft enjoy life cookies.

Was your son able to eat rice dream? My allergist doesn't want me to go near it because of cross contamination concerns.

We didn't contact special diets last time but I plan on it this time. I have about 18 allergies (not including raw fruits and veggies)....3 new ones just diagnosed a week ago after a series of reactions. We decided to stay at Saratoga springs in a 1 bedroom just in case we have food issues but they were so good with my allergies last time (Had about 13 of them) that I am confident we will be fine this time

Do you remember where you got the soft ones? This has come up a couple times on various threads because nobody has offered us the soft. I contacted both Disney and Enjoy life and from what I can find, they have never made small packs of the soft cookies, even for special orders so if you had the soft- did the come out unwrapped? Or did they give you the big box? (I think it's a 12 pack?) I thought they had little packs of the soft ones but I've been told I was just mistaken. (I always feel like I'm crazy when this comes up, because I swear I've seen them) They make the crunchy in the big individual size and the little size that makes them look like the soft ones. I just flipped through our pictures and all the pictures I have are the bigger sized individual crunchy ones. I distinctly remember him getting a little pack at Biergarten that looked like they would be soft, but I also remember how happy DD was that our son couldn't eat them so she got to have a take away little pack of cookies for her purse.

He does ok with the rice dream because most of his reactions are mild and annoying - I'm also assuming it's cross contamination with gluten. Do you know what it is at risk for? Egg, peanut, pistachio and dairy have been his only scary reactions. The rest are skin bleeding and cracking so it's a general infection risk and it's not worth direct ingestion. If it's cross contamination for his scary things I will be reconsidering that one- he doesn't eat it at home anyways.

When you went on the Dream, were you safely able to eat with all your allergies? any tips?

I know I got the soft cookies at 1900 park fare, all of the QS places (POP food court, sunshine seasons, cosmic rays, studio catering company), the Plaza, and Sci Fi. I can't remember where else because I didn't always have dessert.

at the QS places the cookies were the package of two soft cookies. They would always give me more than one package. At the TS they were usually from the box (usually put on a plate with chocolate syrup and some surf sweets or in a bowl of soft serve ice cream....I could have dairy last time).

For rice dream, the cross contamination issue is peanuts, tree nuts (mainly almonds), eggs, and coconut. coconut is not as big of a deal for me but peanuts, eggs, and almonds are two of my worst allergies. But it's only manufactured in the same plant as these things....not the same line....so most people are comfortable with that. But for me, for right now, Because of my history of such sensitivity to allergens my allergist has advised me to avoid it for the time being.

The bolded is flat out wrong. Whomever told you this doesn't know what they're talking about. While in February and I think even the summer before that we only got the bigger crunchy EL cookies, in the past we've most definitely gotten those 2 packs of soft cookies. I haven't seen the individual packs at WDW in probably a year at least but they did definitely used to have them.

This picture was taken at CHH in August 2011.

This one was my dessert at HBD in August 2011. The chef also brought out a couple additional packages of the cookies so I know they weren't just from a big box.

Thank you for those pictures! Now I can stop feeling insane for knowing I saw them somewhere. I spoke to Disney who told me there was no such thing. Then I just looked at the old email from enjoy life again- the person at Enjoy life didn't say they hadn't made them, but told me they would no longer make them.
This was last fall, so if you see them again (or find pictures of soft more recent than 2011) that will be exciting for me. They are a pain to try to pack 2-3 at a time because they crumble and get squished.
Last year we wrote it on the form for special diets, on the little cards I gave to the chefs and mentioned it everywhere and I have a few pictures of the crunchy ones in my food pics folder but nobody offered him a buckwheat free enjoy life cookie anywhere.

They used to sell the 2 pack soft cookies at one of the health food stores in town. I completely forgot about them until I saw the picture. The store went out of business a couple years ago and I've never seen them anywhere else.
