Allergy Cleaning?

If you don't need allergy cleaning, please do not ask for it.

The special level of cleaning they do for guests with true respiratory, allergy or immune system issues is specialized care given to guests who NEED extra assistance. Disney does not value them anymore then anyone else. They are accommodating health problems.

As the mother of a son who truly cannot stay in a room that has not had special cleaning, changed out linens, sanitized carpeting, freshly cleaned curtains, wiped down walls, etc I PROMISE all of you I would rather have to call down and ask for a fresh bedspread if I were grossed out by the thought of someone else having used it before then have a son who is sick enough to NEED a specially cleaned room. My son was taken by ambulance from a Ritz Carlton two years ago and just last year while staying at the Contemporary we had to take him in and have breathing treatments/injections/oral steroids administered while staying in a room that wasn't given an allergy/asthma cleaning. For our family, the special cleaning has made the difference between us being able to vacation or not.

If everyone who just wants a clean room (and I don't argue this, Disney should give EVERY guest a clean room) asks for this service, it will not be possible to make sure that those who truly need it get it.

Of course, no guest should suffer dirty towels, linens or carpeting...but the industry standard is that clean towels, changed sheets, the use of cleaning products and freshly vacuumed floors are considered a clean room. An allergy cleaning goes far beyond this.

As far as VIP cleaning, do any of us want to pay the prices Disney would start to charge if they were expected to shampoo the carpets, paint the walls and change the mattress out between each new guest? And imagine the wait for check ins then! ;)

** One last note before I close: I am not saying that anyone who has posted is planning on doing this...I am aware however, that many people read public boards and it is a worry for me that this offering may be taken advantage of and not be available for those who really need it.**

I have sever allergies to mold and dust mites that can send me to er and requested that they clean my room. I can only hope that it is as well done as you suggested. Ive had to leave hotel rooms because of mold in bathrooms or dust it just trigger my asthma and then Im in er. I really hope it doesnt happen this trip because I'm really looking foward to going.

I agree that its one thing to want a super scrubbed down room and years ago when my allergies werent so bad I would ask them to send housekeeping to my room and I'd pay them extra and show them exactly what I wanted. But these days its so bad I dont use any harsh detergents I keep hepa filters on 24/7 and I take allergy meds daily because of food and airborn allergies. Many people are clueless as to how scents and day to day life are really hard for the nasaly challenged lol.

I wish I had known about this VIP CLEANING when we went to the CR. Im use to the allergy situation(we live in the ER), so while the kids enjoyed the park I cleaned the room and setup our air purifier(hygia 6). I brought my own pillows and comforters. Better to be safe than sorry. My DD4 and I are asthmatic, allergies to everything :sad1: but we were well prepared and had no issues at the CR. The room was very dusty prior to my cleaning, but no mold.

I should have stated more clearly in the beginning that the initial reason for the call to housekeeping manager about the POP room was not only because the room was disgusting but because of an immune disorder - which is why were told about the allergy cleaning and offered VIP cleaning.

Unfortunately, for an immune issue, cleaning without any chemicals does not kill germs so it makes the situation even more complicated. Mold, dust, dust mites, air born allergies etc can all make the immune issue that much more serious - Disney can help, and as someone wrote above, it is not something to take lightly when requesting special cleaning.

Granted, every room should be properly cleaned and Disney is not always doing as good a job as should be done or expected. Nevertheless, for those with a serious need, Disney can and will do their best to help.

Well Said. I agree one hundred percent

Yes, I agree too.
I am mostly concerned with having fresh clean sheets, and a fresh clean bedspread, and a clean bathroom.
I will NOT ask for allergy cleaning because although I do not use chemicals to clean in my own home I want them in a hotel to kill germs :)

I am going to ask for fresh clean linens and bedspread as soon as we arrive, I will even change the sheets myself, I don't care, as long as all the linen is clean and not used.

Actually, our big issue came after all the resorts became non-smoking. My daughter is very allergic to smoke, etc, so we stated so on the ressie. While they could not guarantee a room that was never a smoking room, they did say that they would clean the room extra well before our arrival.

Sure enough, the room was very clean, and clean smelling, upon our arrival. My daughter had no allergy issues while there.

One day, when the mousekeeper had her stuff outside our room, we did notice some special notes by our room information in regards to her allergies.

But as mentioned, the only real reason why we even mentioned it was because of the smoking room policy change. Other than that, I dont think we ever had an issue with standard cleanings. And to add to that - I have to agree that no one should request any special services unless they really, really need it. But I am rather sure that most of us would not do so anyway...

Enjoying this thread---I have the same concerns as above for me and my daughter. Allergy shots twice a week and toting around inhalers, nebulizers, and meds. I always ask for no down products at hotels, but often suffer from any kind of perfume/smoke/or chemical smell.
It's nice to know that the option exists to remove at least some of these hazards.
Thanks! :thumbsup2
