Allergies and snacks/Desserts

Thanks DVCDawn.

BTW, I e-mailed Special Diets to see if the Divvies popcorn and or jelly beans would be available at the Contempo Cafe. This was yesterday, today Chef Rob from the Contemporary called me to say while they don't normally have the popcorn/jelly beans at Contempo, he is working to make sure they have some during our stay and for me to ask the Chef when I get there.

So if you have concerns about specific items available at your resort CS places, send Special Diets an e-mail!

Although we'll see if we can actually find them there ;)

Most of the TS desserts are unsafe for peanut allergies. My kids usually have to get a fruit cup for dessert, but some places have Divvies chocolate chip cookies, which are dairy and peanut free. We were able to get the Divvies at Chef Mickey and Cape May Cafe. They also gave them some gummies and a safe brownie. At Coral Reef, my DD12 was able to get The Wave and at Mama Melrose she got a flourless chocolate cake that's not on the regular menu. I don't know if they're dairy-free.

Make sure you note the allergies on your ADRs and contact Special Diets (the sticky FAQ thread has info), so chefs are aware of the allergies. They'll talk to you about safe options when you dine.

I noticed you ate at the Coral Reef. I was going to avoid that TS because they used to provide peanut butter playdoh for the kids to play with and I wasn't sure how well they wipe the tables, etc. Did you notice if they still have peanut better playdoh? Thanks!

We've been going to Coral Reef annually for the past 4 years. I haven't seen the peanut butter playdoh on the menu. My DD12 is touch allergic to peanuts and has never had any problems at Coral Reef. The kids menu offers ice cream sundaes and fruit cups for dessert now. Coral Reef has consistently been terrific about the kids allergies.

Thanks so much for the reply. Maybe we will try this one now. I don't think it is on the menu but I have never been there so I am not sure. I read about it in the Passporter Open Mouse book (the one for disabilities) but maybe it was an older version. It said: "Allergy alert: edible playdough for kids is made with peanut butter."

We also have never seen any type of playdough at Coral Reef. My DD was a peanut allergy and we were fine at all restaurants.

Hi, who do you email for special diets? My son is allergic to dairy so this info will be handy when we arrive in May 2011.
Thanks for the information. This website has been great

All you really need to do is note it on your reservations and will be well taken care of...be sure if you go to Whispering Canyon Cafe that you ask for a dairy free milk shake for him if he likes rice dream or soy icecream! My son was in heaven with his first milk shake! The ice cream parlors offer substitutes as well. Ask for Divvies for dessert for him...some of the food courts have them. be sure to ask for a chef or manager at all counter service locations!

We don't have food allergies (except for my DD with barely measureable allergy to cod fish). Anyhow, in the past we have been able to get the Minute Maid frozen lemonade as our dessert or get that as our beverage and bottled water instead of dessert at CS places. Granted we haven't been to WDW since Nov '08, so I don't know if the frozen Minute Maid is still there, but it never hurts to ask.

As someone mentioned, the CS desserts aren't that great anyhow.

Thanks for all the information. This is going to make the whole trip so much easier. Thanks everyone
